Ouch, I read on another site that Chicago was expected to be a finalist and this was considered one of the biggest upsets in Olympic voting history.

A study showed that the olympics themselves are not profitable, but that the city that hosts them has a significant increase in international trade/business.

I don't know anything about the source but it is the first thing I googled up. I think NPR is wrong.

Either way I thought it was funny that he failed so hard in his attempt but it is a pretty blatantly hackish thing to hope he gets investigated for promoting America and trying to secure the olympics for it.

Atlanta and LA were both profitable. US cities have the venues for most of the olympic sports so they very rarely have to build new stadiums. Unlike Beijing who build a brand new Bird Nest that no one really uses anymore
