actually he's about the most loved US president ever abroad. And getting mocked by the occasional op-ed sure beats having millions burning you in effigy.

It was all over recent news that Bama met with his A'stan General once - while he was spending days in Europe trying to pull Olympics in - and then lost in first round. Obama made himself into the poster child for fecklessness. It was great having him out of country for a few days though.

I am happy for the sane tax payers of Illinois who didn't want this fiasco. People are trying to make these Olympics the first "green" Olympics. The hype over any Olympics is already lethal and especially when the media sewer of the USA is involved. The "green" shtick would have made things double lethal - triple lethal with Obama being able to use it to market his green crap.

Nope, all one need to do is look at the topic in OT to see other American haters posting it.

What does this have to do with hating America?

Why would I want a shit hole city that has honor students being murdered in the streets with rail road ties represent America?

Ya, that is the exact picture of American I want to send to the world.....right....

We let a bunch of worthless rednecks in Atlanta host the Olympics. Shit, they even bombed the thing.

But hey, a city with some of the highest crimerates and crushing poverty is a great idea, I'm sure everyone in the favela will benefit greatly from this.

There is another thread going here about how the poorest, and I would say worst run, cities are run by Democrats, so maybe that is a better place to continue.

democratic mayors dominate youth magnet cities

10 of 11 have democratic mayors, according to wikipedia

it's almost as if urban areas are predisposed towards having high crime rates and young people move into cities when they're just starting out

If by chance Rio doesn't win, is Pele humiliated and a massive failure?

Chicago & Tokyo Out!

And if Obama HADN'T helped lobby for Chicago, you'd probably be attacking him for that, too.

No, that is why Chicago didnt win.

You know your city is a shit-hole when Rio gets picked over it for anything.

ISWYDT. Do you?

I didn't.

But I do, now.

I just can't believe the Contard hate on this thread.

"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."

And that's why we don't keep medal counts and why the public is just as excited by the athletes eliminated in the preliminary heats as by the Michael Phelps's of the world.

LOL michelle obama pulls a hillary

Here is video of Michelle Obama's pitch to the International Olympic Committee in Copenhagen, where she said at around the 1:10 mark of the video, that some of her best memories are of "sitting on her Dad's lap," watching the Olympics, and "rooting for Olga, Nadia, Carl Lewis and others for their brilliance and perfection."

Uh, Carl Lewis was born in 1961, and Michelle Obama was born in 1964. Lewis first participated in the Olympics in 1984 - when Michelle was 20 years old! In her rush to be overly dramatic, she forgot to check some of the facts.

IOC makes history - and humiliates Obama - as Rio de Janeiro is awarded 2016 Olympics

Nice title (not you, the writer) and journalism. JFC it's as though only Chicago and Rio were in the running.
I am glad Rio got it.. but the humiliation jabber was def pointless of him to write.

You are right, I think the focus that is going on Obama is misplaced. Other national leaders went to Copenhagen to push for their venues and they are not getting bashed at all.

The point of all of the articles that I am seeing in the international press is that Obama is a hollow man. All wind and no results. I also see a lot of, maybe not anti-Americanism, but something close where a lot of people would love to put arrogance in it's place. Obama, in his speeches targeted at international audiences, does his best to tap into that, but it just feeds the disdain. They love to hear him say the US is just another country like Venezuela, et al, but in the end it is power and success that is respected, not obescience at the altar of equivalency.

Seriously, who cares where the Olympics is held? If you are going to bash Obama, at least bash him for things that deserve bashing. Threads like this are just stupid.
