Now that the Surface 2 will be out soon and there are still millions of unsold Surface RT tablets out there, the Black Friday firesale of these things is practically inevitable.

Who's going to have a Surface RT on sale for $200 first! Place your bets!

This happened on ebay already with "refurbs", $199 32GB shipped with type cover. Then they had $199 for just the 64GB version.

I don't see any $200 Surface RT tablets on eBay now. I think finding something like that requires a lot of luck.

I honestly would not buy one even for $100. I bought a Touchpad at that price only because I saw an opportunity to sell it for more, but in my mind both devices are in the same category: Failure.

It was an eBay Deal of the Day...not a random listing.

It was still a short lived one time thing on eBay.

Looks like Microsoft is going to keep the Surface RT going. So I dunno if we'll see retailers slashing the price to $200 as a sale.

The thing that hurts the RT are the Atom based Windows 8 tablets. For ~$100 more, you get something that can run the regular Windows Apps and isn't limited just to what might be available in the Store.

I bought a 64gb model on ebay for $200. The touchcover was another $50.

Kind of wish I'd just gotten the 32gb w/touch cover. The extra memory isn't worth it at all.

But...it's a really great little computer for $200. Furthermore, it is seriously like the best writers tool I've ever used. You can use it in portrait with a USB keyboard, in MS word, and it saves to the cloud.

i bought the rt during the 199 deal (32gb with touch cover). I have to agree, this thing is a very underrated device. I own an ipad 3 as well and I find this is a far more productive device. The hardware is very well made too

There were multiple postings for it. $199 for 32GB, then $249 for a 64GB, both with the keyboard cover. You missed it.

Is the 199 deal still going on? Don't know much about the Surface. Was going to use it as a portable workstation for basic applications. How is typing on the smart cover? Or should I just spring for a desktop pc tower at 100 bucks more?

A desktop PC and a Surface run different applications.

The thing that hurts the RT are the Atom based Windows 8 tablets. For ~$100 more, you get something that can run the regular Windows Apps and isn't limited just to what might be available in the Store.

Not even the case. The Surface 2 is going to be $450. Then ASUS is going to release the T100, which will be $350. That thing includes Office 2013 Student/Home Edition AND the keyboard dock. To get the keyboard on the Surface, it'll be at least $100 more ($130 for the Type Cover, because the Touch Cover sucks).

So, you can get full (32-bit) Windows 8 with Office and a dock for $350, or you can get Windows RT, no keyboard, and Office for $450. Then, when you want a keyboard, your investment can be $550-600. Why people like that kind of a deal, I don't get.

Even then, I'd take the Surface 2 over an Android or iOS tablet, but I'd not make the ARM choice AT ALL when the Atom stuff costs the same or less.

Smart cover is better than the software keyboard, but not by much.

It is really good for typing in things like web addresses, usrname and password, and making short forum posts.

Not good for extended typing more than 300 words.

I like it a lot, actually. Tablets don't really need serious keyboards, you see.
