I used to donate platelets, which you can repeat faster than giving blood. They would automatically take blood when it was ok at the same time. 1.5 to 2 hours time for the process. An insignificant amount of time compared to the benefits.

Unfortunately, I am no longer able to give, due to medications I will probably have to take the rest of my life.

I have been a donor since 1976. Stopped after 30 years in 2006 due to an infection I contracted. Now I may not anymore. Donated blood every 2 months and platelets every month. It was a very peaceful time: you could not do anything while donating platelets (it took 2 hours) but to relax, maybe sleep or chat with the nurses ...

On a side note, if one operates (or operates stuff, I should say) by the 10% rule (read: you have to be 10% smarter than the equipment you are trying to use), how can one ever hope to use a TI-89 calculator?

What about anything else we use on a day-to-day basis? I'm not 10% smarter than most of the computing tools I use, let alone a TI-89 or the Voyager 200. All those solved explicit integrals and whatnot... What would I do without my TI-89 and PSPICE?

Maybe you just have to move to a floundering state that happens to have the best climates. California. How many stupid decisions can kill a state...
