Put 14 pounds of pork shoulder on the smoker a few hours ago. Using pecan wood this time around instead of hickory.
Oh, and the temperature outside is only 56* with some good lightening producing thunder storms.
Hopefully in about 10 hours I will have some nice pulled pork.

PCTC2 - the chickens turned out great. Going to attempt to repeat the magic tomorrow. Brined them overnight and went with the beer can method in the smoker. Was really happy with the flavor. Received lots of compliments from the family.

Tomorrow I will be cooking meat over a maple and oak fire, in the great outdoors. Probably a marinated pork loin or two. I am going to wash it down with cold beer. There may be salad...

I'm working on a batch of Jalapeno Beef Jerky.
And looking forward to my fishing trip June 15 - 23.
This time I am volunteering to help build a walk in freezer and a new cabin.
So, free room and board and all the fishing I can do when not working.
I truly love airline miles!! Had to pay for my fishing license and ferry from Ketchikan to Prince of Wales Island. Some fishing gear of course.
Then when I get back I'll have to start up my smoker and make some wonderful smoked salmon.
But it's jerky day today.

I have some nice pictures of the Ketchikan area from my '97 Alaskan cruise. I don't remember much of the cruise or shore excursions, but the pictures are nice.

I wish I could smoke some meat (live in an apartment...). I'm just glad they allow gas grills on the balcony. Girlfriend made some Chicken Makhani with the grill... delicious.

speaking of which, the New Jersey Devils won the NHL Eastern Conference championship and took home the Prince of Wales trophy just a few days ago...a bit off-topic, but worth mentioning for those hockey fans on the DC forum...btw, the Stanley Cup Finals starts tonight! Devils vs Kings, game 1, 8:00pm EST...

Another full-length feature film of Fullmetal Alchemist. It's wonderful having more of your favorite stuff. And it was great. I'm definitely getting that tattoo come my birthday this year (August). Yay shiny

Awesome! Yes... I have yet to finish the series (reboot?) because only the first three seasons are on Netflix... I just need to buy the rest.

*edit to add some "bbq" goodness*

Finally "mastered" the pellet grill (aka, things are done nicely), baked a Papa Murphy's pizza (cheating, I know) for lunch on Saturday on it and then managed to cook five siroloins and two ribeyes to near perfection for guests Saturday night. My LP grill would have combusted with that much goodness on it.

It should stand in nicely for the oven this summer.

I took some fresh ears of corn, husks and all and soaked in water for a few hours. Got a nice, hot wood fire going and put the corn on the grille around the perimeter, turning it frequently while cooking hamburgers and hot dogs. Earlier, I softened butter and mixed in black pepper, a dash of cayenne and some chili powder. I put this in the fridge to chill for the corn. Took the corn off the fire, pulled off the husks and silk, spread on some of the "herbed" butter. The corn was the best part!

Pardon my ignorance, but why do you soak the corn in water? I have never heard of doing that before.

Also, to prevent the husks from burning. Putting the cob right on the grill (without cover) often results in more burnt than cooked kernels. I usually just wrap the corn in aluminum foil and throw them on the grill until the very end. The husks serve the same purpose and protect the corn and seal in the moisture to cook (like Rudy said).

I have another piece of Copper River Sockeye to grill today and some 16-20 / pound shrimp. Yummy!

Yes, soaking in water with the the husks on helps steam the corn and prevent burning. I usually leave them over the fire until the outer leaves start to turn brown.

@FMC: Which one did you see?

"Fullmetal Alchemist: THe Sacred Star of Milos". And it was, of course, excellent. I think I have watched it twice so far since getting it. Can't wait to see what it looks like on Blu-Ray (have it, just haven't had time -- I can't multitask in the living room like I can at my computer).

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood was wonderful. Kinda pissed about how they released it "groups", then full Season -- bah!!). I've actually starting going back and watching everything over again. I love this anime.
