Prime95 can seemingly run all night long on my computer no problem... at first it was bad but i lowered my FSB to 155 and set my ram to 2.5 3 3 7 and it ran perfectly.

I just installed and ran 3dMark2001 SE and guess what happened, it crashed to the usual vertical technicolored line screen on the second demo test. Is it safe to conclude that my Video card sucks and I should get a new one?

3 things:

1) you got an ATI??? If so, Serves you and me right!!! ATI drivers are crap...Once I updated the drivers by removing old drivers and running regcleaner and manually taking out some stuff (good guide at rage3d.com forums) and installed latest catalyst drivers good to go....

2) sometimes while ocing and tweaking drivers can get corrupted...make sure os and video drivers are installed at default speed

3) Sometimes 3dmark2k1 needs a slight boost in vcore, vdimm, and or vagp...try boosting each a slight and see if it helps....

I also had and le with crap memory and it would not run at 250/250 default of the card, but if I ran 3dtweak and downclocked to just 240/240 it ran fine...Le models are crap and never by one, IMO....

My system:
Intel 1.6A@155, 1:1 default voltage
Asus P4B533 Default voltage
Samsung 512ddr pc2700 set at Auto
Gainward Geforce 4 4200 64mb
Sounblaster Live! Value (4th slot)
Macronix 10/100 (6th slot, bottom)

i'll up my AGP and see if that fixes the problem. otherwise i need to reformat and try everything at normal speed. i hope i don't have to do that.

I upped AGP and it crashed near the end of the test. Then I upped both memory and core voltage .1 and it ran through the test and i got a 4932 as a result with AA and triple buffering.

upping core .1v??? seems like a lot....Maybe you just meant the vdimm .1v, right???

Is it in fact and ATI and an le card???

Driver reinstallation and 3dmark2k1se reinstall worked for me....

Prime stable does not need an additional .05vcore and then still fail....It is something else...

1) get 3dtweak and downclock the card and see if it makes it...

2)Does the mobo you have, have an agp/pci lock?? Maybe you are out of agp spec...

I know mine was not a real crash though cause when I restarted winxp there was no error report...It didn't even know it had crashed....

Sorry it's a Gainward Geforce 4200 64mb

Initially when I overclocked I had the AGP/PCI settings on Auto, I don't know if that could have impaired the card or not. I later went back and changed it to manual 66.6/33.3, on my P4B533

There is something really wrong if your only getting 4932 with that card. Is there an agp voltage adjustment? If not try underclocking (actually taking the card back to its original speed) the card and run it. My friend bought that card and I was surprised how crappy the heatsink is and no ramsinks. He has to run is lower than it comes (It comes overclocked) if he overclocks his system.

return your card, but i doubt that will help. Something else seems amiss here. I know u probablyt did this already but make sure your HSF is seated properly and your not overheating.

So I don't get it. Is it stable at lower fsb speeds?
Find a stable setting before trying to fix an apparent unstable condition.

Its a waste of time to work on an unstable situation, if a 1 MHz drop in fsb will solve your problems.

I know you ran Prime95 all night, but Prime95 IMO is as another once said, "Isn't the end all be all" of stability testing.

Are you sure the PCI/AGP is locked then? If not, you can expect problems. PCI at 39 (155/4) is pushing it.

Prime95's "torture test" loop merely performs a bunch of fourier transforms. Very CPU intensive, but it does not significantly stress your memory, or your video card. My first instinct would be to suspect that your memory isn't happy at 155. You should probably use a program such as memtest86 or loop Sisoft Sandra's "memory bandwidth/cache + memory performance" tests to see if this is true.

EDIT: didn't see the PC2700 part. My guess would be "something" with your video card, maybe AGP bus speed.

I personally think its your video card crashing. The Gainward comes overclocked from its the original Ti4200 speed. Turn it back to original 4200 speed and see if it will run.

Default speeds for a Ti4200 are 225/500
