I have had no problems finding work while being disqualified for 80 percent of the jobs right off the bat due to my record. I have a very good full time job. I thank God for giving me the strength to overcome the odds but believe me I have worked hard to get here.

If my informations are correct, due to historical reasons, black people also happen to be born and grow up mostly in disadvantaged areas, more so than other people, and the statistics don't take into account what the family you come from has accomplished, e.g. the presence or lack of a parental social network with job opportunities or maybe a family business. Thus America has no more well-educated, capable people than before, plus we have less productive businesses with one more reason to send jobs off-shore whenever possible.

I happen to concur on a lot of those points. The location and socio-economic status your born into can have an impact on your potential. As you point out some of that was due to past discrimination directed at minorities in general and African Americans in particular.

While I do think things are better on the discrimination front there's still work to do and still the damage from historical discrimination to deal with.

I'm gonna guess that you won't disagree that when government behaves badly it can have ramifications that last more than a generation.

You obviously haven't been in an inner city school. It is the parents of the children that are the problem, not the school. The problem is that you have felons and drug addicts raising children. How the fuck does a school fix that? There are large swaths of Milwaukee in which you are at risk of death/rape/robbery if you are foolish enough to walk into. There is a real and tangible animus to learning in the "ghetto" parts of Milwaukee. Blacks who try to do well in school are bullied and targetted by other blacks. Not that an education is the guarantee that it once was anyways. There are no longer the jobs out there that there once was. We are past the golden age, we are now in the silver age.
