Usually the repair costs for out of warranty consoles is around $100. With a brand new arcade model being only $200 I'd be more apt to jump on that.

Circuit City has (had?) arcades for $160.

I went with a buddy of mine last week, they still had tons, although they were keeping them up front so it looks sold out in the games section.
Just ask.

I did, in 2 stores. I'll try the store down by my mom's when I visit her Monday.

Great news! I turned it on again just to see if it would work again and I got....THE RED RING OF DEATH MUAHAHAHA!!!!....and my power supply had a green light. That means that MS will fix it for free. Looks like my 360 might be brought back to life . But I have a question. Are they starting to just replace these old units with new ones?

No actually. When I try and load a game it makes a loud beep and locks up. Strange. I figured its so old that its got to be dead.

The lady over the phone said I was covered. I think its set up to where if you get three lights and a green light on the power supply you are covered even if you console is past its warranty.Originally posted by: TimBob

I think you are out of the extended warranty timeframe.

I really don't see why you guys have problems. Me and probably 8 of my close personal friends all have launch 360s. No problems.

My launch 360 is back to RRODing. I just spent a while on the phone with them. First guy said they would cover the repair because I purchased it in December 06 which was wrong. I told him it was a launch one. He sent me to the next guy who had me hook it up and do the power supply test. Then he said there were problems with the system and he couldn't get the repair through. But, he said I could do it online and if that doesn't work, call back.
I tried to do it online and it wanted to charge me $105. I didn't like that so called back. Another lady tried to enter it and wasn't able to either without a CC. Then she realized it was out of the 3 year extended warranty period. So, looks like I won't be getting a new one.
MBrown, did you ever get your repair initiated for free?

LOL at anecdotal evidence.
