The 9700 is dead only because it got revised as the 9800. Basically the same chipset just updated.

Umm dead was meaning that it is a discontinued product, I will work harder to be more literal for those of you who have trouble understanding. By saying king I didnt meant that when you buy an x800 it comes with crown either, just to clear confusion

I seem to have missed the point of this thread... forgive me but it wasn't all that interesting to read about people talking about which company has it better or which line of cards sucked, staggered, or soared in sales. As long as the card does what its meant to do (which is produce graphics) in this day and age its fine by me. No one can turn those words against me because its true isn't it? Why we buy card is knowing the self satisfaction of using that card that is technologically advanced for a month or so before another beast makes its appearance in the market. When everyone was staggering for a 5900 or 9800 I stuck to a low end card, the 9600SE and 5200 and by far those cards were decent enough to allow me to play games, just not at the "eye candy levels" everyone bragged about getting. ATI and Nvidia are both great video card makers no matter how you look at it. Its amazing how many people you see follow the band wagon and bag on each other for liking one company over another. One year ATI rules and people bag on Nvidia, then Nvidia does a great job of getting back on its feet and people bag on ATI. Can't we all just live in peace in regards to video cards?

Actually, what I am getting from your posts is that you seem to wish to reserve the right to change the meaning of anything that you previoulsy typed to something different...

example:

people who cant afford X800 and 6800 cards there is no other choice than something from ati be it a 9600, 9700, or 9800 preferebly in the pro or xt flavor.

impemonk, I am with you in your opinion, Thats what my point of the thread was. All manufacturers have had their time, I believe Ati to be the better of the 2 now. ATleast for the last year and a half

Ok I guess you got me there, Iam biased towards Ati right now because I feel as though they have the best all around cards, not to say the geforce 6 series isnt good but those are way out of the price league for most

I am an ATI fan and my recent purchase was a MSI NX6800 (Nforce 6800 standard) for $200. Good upgrade from my previous Radeon 9800 Pro.

Hey guess what, they dont carry hardly any high end cards at the stores Ive seen. The highest card they have are the 6600GT PCI-E, and X700 PCI-E. Just because BB doesnt carry them in the stores, doesnt mean they are not out there. Dont be so naive.

CompUSA is the same way, but are a little better, as they almost always have X800's and some sort of 6800 card.

My local BB's have had plenty of 6800GTs and 6800NUs.

BTW these are full boxes, not display boxes. They have a sercurity thingy similar to the one they use on HD's.

I have still not seen a x800 in any flavor in person at any BB, Compusa, or Chips&Bytes. And I look at Video cards everytime I go for HOTDEALS

You couldn't be more wrong. The 6 series cards are cheaper than the x800's and the availabilty is far higher. I used to be an ATI fan. Having a 9500np and a 9700pro I was sure ATI would be the champ of video cards. They still might be like I said and others have said, the price, availability, value, are what make NV so desirable.
