Looks great in commercials. I would like to go tonight, but if alot of people saw it and said it stunk I might just skip it. What do you thing? Has anyone seen the original 1960's version of it? Comments on that?

The original was great. The reviews I have read on this one have convinced me to wait for it to hit video. Too bad because it looked good in the trailers.

I believe the AnandTech Moderators may have seen this movie.
They certainly seem to know about "more locks."

Huh? The story is the best part of the movie, if they stay true to the book.

Ebert says it stinks to high heaven.

<< "The Time Machine" is a witless recycling of the H.G. Wells story from 1895, with the absurdity intact but the wonderment missing. >>

Damn shame too, I rather liked the book and the original 1960s movie.

Ebert panning it is all the confirmation I need that it's worth seeing. That blob wouldn't know a good movie if it jumped up and bit him on his third chin.

The effects, imo, are why I don't plan on seeing it. What I saw of the trailer seemed to be quite a bit different from the book (and the 60s movie). My guess is the Hollywood schmucks think the movie-going public doesn't like to think anymore. Well...they're wrong.

I've seen the old version of the movie more times than I can remember. Love that movie, it along with "Journey To The Center Of The Earth" was one of my favourite movies as a child. I think this new version may just be like the "Planet Of The Apes" fiasco. A sad butchering of an old Sci-Fi classic.

Boy! POA stank! Did anyone else but me notice that Mark Walhberg seemed to be out of breath with every line he delivered? It was really annoying.

Amen, I am so glad I got that DVD for free, I would be really pissed if I had shelled out good money for it.

Here is a better suggestion for your Friday night, rent Kiss of the Dragon or The One, both are excellent movies and surefire hits, wait for the damned reviews to come out for TM before seeing it (and I agree, ignore that FFB Eberts opinion of the movie, he's got no clue).

Hmm... sorry if I picked a film critic that you didn't like. I'd look around for more reviews if I were you. I've seen quite a few, including my local papers, and everyone seems to be in concensus that the movie is a bomb.
I guess you'll just find out on your own.

I don't like, or dislike him. He's just lousy at his job. Read his review of this movie for a clue of just how bad he is. Every one of his criticisms apply equally well to the original version, which is nearly universally acknowledged as one of the best science fiction movies of that era.

I didnt't think it was THAT bad. Not great, but it was good. I've gotta see the original though to see what I'm missing...

From what I remember (it's been a while), the original was a classic, and was well ahead of it's time.

I haven't seen the most recent version yet, but I really wonder if the story will hold true. What made the original story so great was the cautionary extrapolation of human behavior of a wartime London. I can't see the modern version having the same concept or impact since we aren't in the same sociopolitical situation. Even the '60s version was more relevant considering the Duck-and-Cover/bomb shelter mentality prevalent from the cold war. Even if this movie is true to the original concept, I doubt that it will hit people the way it did when the issues were closer to home.
