The True Meaning of the INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS major...?

I am going to persue international business at USC (which is gonna be an extra 26 units on top of the Business Admin) anyways, I was wondering what would sum up INternational Business?

I just wanna get a better idea of what I'm getting myself into =) thanks

I guess I could answer your question since I just graduated with that major In Intl. business you'll learn how to conduct business in other countries, what to pay attention to in order to avoid any blunders (for example, with literal translation), how the customs are different and that you have to realize that otherwise your business venture might fail simply because of not knowing how the culture and people work. You'll also have to learn a foreign language and have about 30 credits in just that (I chose French over Spanish, you might have more choices). That about sums it up, it's very interesting, just make sure you get a good teacher, you don't want to get a teacher who is a pushover, you'll regret later on

Ahh w/ the foreign language - can you start from scratch? Or will they assume that you know something???! Cuz I think I forgot all my espanol in HS!

Yes, you can start from scratch. However, because you already has some Spanish before, instead of beginner's course, they might stuff you into intermediate Also, it might be different at your school, but it makes sense do it this way

Too bad you don't go to my school (Whittier College), we just went on a 3.5 week trip to Asia studying business, visiting factories, and whatnot.

What do you do now that you are OUT of college with that ba in Intl Bus?

Well, let me tell you this, we went to some Payless Shoe factories, and I have a new respect for them. From the managers there, they tell me Nike has some of the worst factories.

One Payless factory we went to was basically a self contained city, using only water from the city. They had a movie theater, basketball courts, recycling center, arcade, supermarket, restaurant, pratically anything you could think of. They were going to expand to build a golf course. They are open to employee suggestions and try to keep them as happy as possible.

They only call it sweat shops because its so humid there, so you can't help but sweat!

Hmm.. that's the major I wanna get in.. that and international Relations... I'm a college freshman/sophmore and I still can't decide if iwanna get a poli sci degree or a business degree.. hmm.. maybe both =)
