I've a family where those who were vaccinated did not become sick from COVID.This is exactly it. These people WORSHIP Trump and the whatever he does. The vaccine was OK when developed under Trump, when Biden took over and pushed it, it was the plague. I work with a man whose own father died from COVID after refusing to take the vaccine...and it didnt change his mind about the vaccine at all. I know of two other families with the same take.
The "cheap stuff" is also how people's quality of life has really been boosted. Better foods (and fresh, year round produce), more toys and electronics, cheaper appliances - these are all things that came about because of trade.The whole “people don’t want cheap stuff” arguments being deployed across right wing media are doomed to epic failure. If this country has any underlying organizing principle it’s that consumers demand cheap shit and will want to kill you if it goes away.
Once pre-tariff stocks start to become depleted later this month and into May the folly will be super evident.

The average American think old airline ads depicting first class travel as what economy class used to look like or that Leave It to Beaver was an accurate representation of economic life for most in the 50s. I don't exactly trust their judgement about [name a something].Yes and many of the products we import are excellent and we cannot make then or at least most of the components. Average American has zero idea what the supply chain looks like for say a computer or a tv.
TBH I couldn't wait to get out of HS and to the university. I remember only two of my HS teachers being particularly worthy of admiration, a math teacher whose classes were very much favored by people who gravitated to math/science and the chemistry teacher (Chem 1A/1B was a breeze at the U because of what he had taught us in HS).
S&P did rally the week of the inauguration and I wondered why. Treaded water for a month and then the decline started. This last week was interesting. 3 up days followed by the swan dive we've been in (i.e. Thursday & Friday) which was in reaction to the tariff EOs (illegal, that's congress' work) announced just after the US markets closed Wednesday afternoon and the world market reactions. I don't expect a rebound but have no crystal ball.My dad used to spend $110 every month to watch 2 channels.. NY1 weather and Fox. I told him to save his money and taught him how to use a smart phone and a mouse.
But 25 years of $110 a month = $33,000 to basically fuck your own mind up.
Thankfully he's mostly recovered now from Fox now but has taken the apathetic view of.. it'll effect everyone and then maybe Trump will stop with the madness.
I'm much better with just figuring out where my money is going.. and other than Home Depot which is sometimes very hard to avoid.. even though I try like hell.. I have cancelled so many shopping places and outlets just because they're MAGA.
Sadly it's a virus and it's getting damn hard to avoid.
Actually come to think of it, it's becoming a religion. The person can be educated, skilled, hold good jobs but still believe crazy stuff that can't proven scientifically or historically and will offer fealty to their deity.

Yet the MAGA propaganda has so twisted them, they STILL believe the vaccine was fake / is poison / is going to kill us all.
They believe it made women sterile. Despite a grandchild being born two years later. Now they reply "it was temporary". And if anyone thinks evidence would sway them, they'd say it's "It's a Democrat conspiracy". If the source of their information is not the Church of MAGA, then it cannot be real.
Another recent kick is how any women they do not like are now "Trans". This hate coming from an old women, now any OTHER women who is not young AND beautiful must clearly be a man.
To say the alt-reality is infuriating is an understatement. I can clearly state they LOVE these tariffs. It took just a single day before one of them received proper instruction on how an economic crash and high prices don't matter. Despite being concerned and pissed about it a day earlier. When MAGA speaks, it is the ONLY thing they hear. Their own lying eyes be damned.

TLDR: they took the value of imports exports and just divided the two numbers and then turned the % into the tariff. so it isnt even based on any actual law/tarrif said nation has or doesnt have on US goods. even worse there a nations that buy more from the US than they sell, and they still got slapped with a tariff. so not based on rationality or even reality.
