it took me this election to realize that a lot of people get their "news" via short form media on their smart phones nowadays, so the Kamala campaign could have said a lot of things but people aren't going to be aware of it if their social algorithm does not provide it to them

it also took me election to realize that people have the memory of a goldfish and care more about how they currently feel than remembering history or actually understanding potential consequences
I'm just pointing it out to give credit to the Kamala campaign, who did a lot of good messaging along with their mistakes.

On a related note we are anticipating a nightmare day tomorrow on the markets. All hands on deck everyone on the front lines to deal with the fallout from all of this. Going to be so much fun…

It is pretty clear that Trump has no plan beyond imposing the tariffs. Other than lots of golfing.
Out in the open, clear line of sight. That's a good place for him to frequent.
If Wall Street wants this nightmare to end, they know where to find him.
Until then we can just sit back and clap at their leopards eating their faces.

Yeah but Trump famously doesn't pay for goods and services he gets provided !

Also when he charges the SS for staying in his hotel with him there is an element of subsidy involved, because they are a kind of captive market, with no real choice as to where to stay. Perhaps he thinks that's just how markets work?

It's interesting ....Why only 10% on China and 25% against Canada and Mexico? Basically, this is a slap on the wrist for an autocratic regime and a body blow to a democracy that is arguably our best ally. Who are all these “whales” buying up 95% of Trumps and Melania's meme coins? entities seeking to buy influence? proxies for the Chinese government? buying themselves lower tariffs by enriching Trump personally? We know that Elon Musk has strong business reasons for wanting to treat China gently.

And Trump keeps calling Canada's bilateral trade surplus a "subsidy" which makes no fucking sense at all ... of course lol!

It’s true that Canada runs a trade surplus with the United States, selling more to us than it buys. But this surplus is entirely caused by Canadian energy exports, mainly oil to the U.S. upper Midwest:

Trump, however, routinely lies (Duh!) and overstates the size of this surplus by a factor of two or three.

Fentanyl pouring across our northern border, which wouldn’t justify tariffs even if it were happening - which it is NOT happening

Imposing steep tariffs on Canada and Mexico is just to show that he can — that it’s essentially a dominance display. And all the people pointing out that it’s a terrible idea probably only reinforced his determination to show that he’s in charge and smarter than anyone else.

The American voters have allowed our political system to be attacked and eroded and we are now at the point where our elected government is both corrupt and not able to co-exist peacefully with others, even our best friends. Our civil service is being decimated and replaced with loyal subjects, and we are now beginning to abuse our trusted partner nations for no reason. Sound familiar? Playbook recently updated by Putin. half our country's populace is becoming a bunch of nihilistic selfish democracy-doubters and can't parse the complexity of this situation. Democrats need to bring suit against Trump for abrogating treaties he is bound to uphold by the black-letter Constitution.

You think a 6-3 will care?

They covered their bases by stealing a seat and were gifted another by RBG not retiring.

“Tariffs” is outperforming “Taylor Swift” on Google now. Asian markets opened down, Dow futures are down 450 and falling…

You ready to buy the dip? May want to wait just a bit to get a sense of where the bottom is.

So the US does a 25% tariff on everything except oil that has a 10% tariff?
Seems like that's pointing a massive arrow at your weaknesses. Time for Canada to enact a 15% export tariff on oil to the US then!
Trump isn't very smart. He's going to find out that there will be repercussions he didn't anticipate. 25% and 10% are nice round numbers, but the consequences are not going to be nice. I'm sure there are a myriad of very creative responses that will develop globally by virtue of the narcissist's tariff gambit. Consternation is in the offing and that's a colossal understatement.

I'm still not seeing the logic in taxing US consumers to stop Chinese and Mexican drug smugglers.
This just seems like a convoluted way to do a national sales tax without calling it a nation sales tax.
I don't see how this has anything to do with drug traffic at all. Yes, it just amounts to a targeting sales tax. Personally, I hate sales taxes. You pay federal income taxes, state income taxes, property taxes, local taxes can be accommodated from the others. Adding sales taxes of any kind is just an additional burden on the poor all in all.

First comes a correction, then a bear market.

I gave a bit of thought to selling my fund shares, could see this coming. But it's against my rules. When my rules say sell is when I sell. If I start reacting to news I figure I'll be in trouble.

All the individual companies that front loaded their inventory orders anticipating this get a gold star. Wall Street gets a "See me after class" note from the teacher.
I did more than my average online shopping last week, i.e. before Saturday.

Me, I'm ready for the tariffs. I have about 8 decent size avocados in the fridge.
avocados can't last enough on the fridge.... I tell it as experience as South American. It only last two weeks in best case before starts to degradate T_T
