For the flip side I remember thinking I was hot shit because I had a 98 in HS chem. Got a fucking 10/100 on my first college chem midterm. Big difference in difficulty between Texas public high schools and the University of California system.

Had to drop the class and self-study the rest of the quarter to get up to an acceptable level in the subject but did manage an A- when I made a second attempt at the course.
I got a really easy A in Chem 1A and Chem 1B at UC Berkeley because I already knew 80+% of the material from my high school chem class, maybe 90%. Mr. Straus (high school chem teacher) was fantastic, knew his subject thoroughly, was super good at explaining it in every single class. I dug the lab stuff, titration, moles, principles of ionization, valence, periodic table, lada lada. Unfortunately never took anything beyond Chem 1A and 1B, no biology at all, no organic chemistry.

I dug my honors freshman calculus course, got 100 on the midterm! Teacher was great, later became head of the math department.

I hear the Asian markets had a fun start today—circuit breakers triggered on the Taiwan exchange after they missed the earlier bloodletting due to holidays.

Might have to pick up some TSMC because I don’t know when it’ll be this cheap again.

Alaska willingly join those librul Canuckistanians? WTF are you smoking?

(although I do agree with you…Alaska is just too red/Trump to want to do that)
Trust me, that is a first world problem. Going Russian is like returning to 1800, which is where the trupians want, but not wrt sanitation and basic needs. They'd devolve into a colder Cuba in no time. The other choice is a no brainer, theoretically. Practically, who knows? 😁

I believe there are several lawsuits that are challenging the presidents claim that we are in an economic emergency.

I don’t imagine it doing anything though as this Supreme Court would surely rule that the president gets to determine what is or isn’t an economic emergency and I’m sure there wasn’t any specifics when such power was legislated.
Checks and balances was a promise to America.

This is like seeing a character take what you know to be a fatal dose of radiation but is still walking around and talking and laughing unaware.
I wish it were so because it would so make my day to see him die of radiation poisoning. I do hope we see his demise during this administration somehow. The way things are going it's hard for me to imagine another 3.8 years of this.

Here's a cool comment to the New York Times story on this world wide economic collapse precipitated by Donald Trump:

"The people who said we’d have to put up with Trump if we want a healthy economy are now saying we gotta put up with broken economy if we want Trump."

Uh, have they put something in the water?

A couple more:

Trump's tariff tantrums are stuck in the 1980's. Republicans can either wake Trump Van Winkle up and show him a calendar....or they can watch the Trump Depression take hold and watch it destroy 340 million American lives and wipe the Republican Party off the map for fifty years.

Trump doesn't care....but perhaps a few Republicans might. In any case, there's a Frankenstein on the loose wrecking the country, trashing the Constitution and flushing the republic down the drain. Time for Americans to flood the protest zone and give this madman a taste of the people's rage.

Mitch McConnell's legacy will be this disaster. It was he who prevented America, the world, and his own party from freeing itself from this narcissist menace when he had the opportunity. Impeachment was included in the Constitution for just the sort of action as Trump took in organizing the Jan. 6 attack on the capitol.

I was kind of freaking out because my first math midterm at UCLA I got a 70 on. One thing to blow my chem midterm because it was my weakest subject but another thing entirely to screw up a math midterm in what was by far my strongest subject. Was in a probability class taught by a guy fresh off his Ph.D from Cambridge and I guess he gave us a Cambridge level exam because turned out I had one of the highest grades in the class lol (everyone else I talked to in the class got 20-30 on it). Best teacher I ever had though was the world famous Terry Tao. The Terry Tao who was studying group theory and calculus at age 8. Nobody knew who he was back then though and he was younger than all the grad students in the class when I took a topology course from him. Yet we immediately all knew we were taking a course from an Einstein level genius and that he was 100% going to win a Fields Medal (which he did a few years later for a mindblowing result called the Green-Tao Theorem). Dude had this ability to take these crazy ideas from topology and real analysis and explain them in a way that made them seem obvious. His exams felt easy because I learned so much in his course but it was a ton of work. Still love reading his blog.

Another thing I loved about the math department at UCLA was the professors knew we were all broke as hell so a lot of the courses they'd assign textbooks that were $5 to $10.

It's just all so stupid.

He could have basically done nothing and people would have given him credit for the good economy that was set up under Biden. But instead, he needed to piss and take a dump all over everything because he's a fucking dunce.

But good economy isn't what they want, he is creating more oligarchs.
People laugh at thee billionaires losing their fictional money, but in the end reach people you be able to buy the bits and pieces of all the destruction.

I've wondered what Russian oligarchs would do in this situation given their hypothetical connection to the white house. Depressed asset prices is nice I guess. Or being able to short stocks just at the right moment... and likewise... be able to go long as well.
