Not only is the United States now an unreliable partner, but it is actively trying to harm some of its staunchest "die in the fields with you" allies. The rest of the world cannot trust us and should avoid entering any sort of agreement with us insomuch as that’s possible. I fully expect Canada and other nations to make other arrangements both militarily and economically as they open up trade elsewhere. in a direction away from the U.S. Trump is making the United States weaker both economically and militarily. This could cause every auto assembly plant in America to shut down in a month. Canada, there are 192 other countries you can do business with.

Trump doesn’t believe in mutually profitable relationships, those are for “losers” “Winners” take in return for nothing. He doesn’t want a trade network between sovereign nations, he wants an imperial America receiving tribute, extortion, bullying and subjugation from its subjects here and abroad. The stupid thing about it all is that free trade is how wealth is generated here in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Tariffs and restrictive trade practices just limit the amount of money to be made. You’d think some "businessman" (lol!) elected President would be smart enough to either realize this or listen when his people explain it to him, but apparently not. Gaslit Maga and a good amount of the American public don’t know, or refuse to believe that Trump cannot negotiate his way out of a wet paper bag. His “negotiation style” is a zero-sum game, where he wins, you lose. That’s not negotiating. Trump is an 18th century mercantilist. Businesses cannot effectively function when the worst President in US history and the US government is clowning around like this.

These actions are an important test for the American business community. They know this is not a pro-business strategy to promote economic growth. I hope business leaders have the courage to say so. I'm assuming Mexico and Canada have retaliation planned that's unlike anything Trump saw the first time around. Trump's 25% tariffs are a complete betrayal of the historic bond between these countries and a declaration of economic war against trusted allies. These "Taxes" will have immediate and direct consequences on Canadian and American livelihoods. If the US shows that it is willing to arbitrarily impose tariffs as a form of hostage taking for leverage, then other countries will find us a bad partner. This will undermine our economy, our power and our national security.

Trump "says" these tariffs will be in place "until" Canada and Mexico stop fentanyl and border crossings. I call bullshit!.

He really has a totally confused idea of how the world works

Trump posted this to the truth social platform under an hour ago:

We pay hundreds of Billions of Dollars to SUBSIDIZE Canada. Why? There is no reason. We don’t need anything they have. We have unlimited Energy, should make our own Cars, and have more Lumber than we can ever use. Without this massive subsidy, Canada ceases to exist as a viable Country. Harsh but true! Therefore, Canada should become our Cherished 51st State. Much lower taxes, and far better military protection for the people of Canada — AND NO TARIFFS!

Subsidize? Since when is 'freely paying for goods and services provided' a 'subsidy'?

*screaming into the void that basically nobody is rocking up to their drug dealer and ordering fentanyl and that is an adulterant added to other drugs*

Trump says “people will understand” why prices have to skyrocket.

Lol! ... Trump: - "tariffs don't cause inflation"

Trump: - “We don’t need the products that they have,” “We have all the oil you need. We have all the trees you need”

Trump: - “WILL THERE BE SOME PAIN? YES, MAYBE (AND MAYBE NOT!)".

These are the exact words you'd expect to hear from someone who has absolutely no fucking clue what they are doing. He's an economic illiterate.

Trump fantasy world "Golden Age" never will arrive because it's always been based on this core fact: Trump has always confused what was best for the US with what was best for himself and his infantile delusions of being the smartest person on the planet.

Brazil just recently surpassed the US in soybeans exports after Trump's first failed trade war. Worked like a charm for US farmers who like being on welfare. MAGA are literally cheering and clapping like trained seals at higher prices for American consumers

It is pretty clear that Trump has no plan beyond imposing the tariffs. Other than lots of golfing.

Looks like making sure to purchase my new car before Trump took office is panning out to be a good idea. I'm glad I found exactly what I wanted.

I was reading that car prices may rise by $3k on average.

Trump's idiotic justification for tariffs:

1. Tariffs will force Canada and Mexico to stop drugs coming over the border.

2. We wont' have to pay federal taxes anymore. The IRS can be eliminated. Tariffs will pay for everything.

3. Yeah it will probably hurt us but making stuff cost more will make America great again.

4. We don't need any imports we can make everything here.

Trump's rage tweet the WSJ for pointing out that his tariffs could have negative effects in the economy, yet Trump admitted they could have a negative effect on the economy. That's classic Don the Con right there!

He doesn't have a plan. Elect a clown.... expect a circus.

Ronald Reagan warning us about a Trump like demagogue.

"Our peaceful trading partners are not our enemies; they are our allies. We should beware of the demagogues who are ready to declare a trade war against our friends -- weakening our economy, our national security, and the entire free world -- all while cynically waving the American flag. The expansion of the international economy is not a foreign invasion; it is an American triumph, one we worked hard to achieve, and something central to our vision of a peaceful and prosperous world of freedom." - Ronald Reagan

DEI hire Kristi Noem says the people negative reactions to price hikes will be to blame for the price hikes ... Lol! Soooo! .. If you complain about high prices, they will raise them and it will be your own fault?

Translation: She’s saying that Trump shouldn’t be held accountable for the consequences of his decisions. Definitely a cult

This guy is a bit of a Blueanon but hard to deny that he has been correct on many of these points.

This seems to go way beyond just "rich guys enriching themselves more." This is a targeted attack designed to replace the US with a techno-monarchy of sorts. Look at what guy like Thiel and Yarvin have advocated for, for years.

These days I think a lot about the Helldivers game franchise, where the story is set on a future earth where there is "managed democracy," and it's exactly what you think it is. "Citizens" vote by answering a series of questions and then the AI votes in your best interest.

A little too on the nose?

The Kamala campaign made it very loud and clear very often that tariffs were going to raise prices on our groceries and a lot more. They ran a solid campaign on that topic.

It's not like the shitty Trump voters have any excuses. Except, well, being shitty.

All his voters simply chose not to believe what he said. Granted he is a huge liar but his interest in tariffs is a real thing as proven by the first term.

Yep. Because they loved his shittiness, it turned them on, so they simply let things they didn't want to happen just disappear in their minds. Too bad fucknuts.

it took me this election to realize that a lot of people get their "news" via short form media on their smart phones nowadays, so the Kamala campaign could have said a lot of things but people aren't going to be aware of it if their social algorithm does not provide it to them

it also took me election to realize that people have the memory of a goldfish and care more about how they currently feel than remembering history or actually understanding potential consequences

Oh, you just now noticed it's a media failure.
I'm not sure how many times I called out the media by constantly saying things like the right wing mediasphere is so huge and puts the Dems at a disadvantage, the mainstream media is a complicit failurew, and calling out the NYT, in fact making a thread out of that, and about canceling my subscription there probably close to a year ago. And calling out the WP, and many more.

In case you didn't notice
