This is an outstanding video explaining why "making shit in America" might sound like a great idea to some, but isn't fesable at all. And she breaks everything down so even MAGAts should be able to follow along. I know they wouldn't care tho lol.
If you want to watch a video that's more applicable to us computer geeks...it's almost 3 hours, but is very well done.

In the end the tariffs will die. The question is for how long will the show go on and how much have it hurt the US and global economy while doing so.

We are developing Level-4 Automated Driving System for Public Transport Buses. The software is up and running in Europe with European OEMs. Guess what is happening in the US ? There is no significant production of Coach Buses in the US. This is the core Automotive and there are only two and a half producers in the continent, sitting in Canada !

The video is a narrative for low tech plastic/silicone mats ..In the land of steel/rubber/glass it is not different

China can take more pain than we can on this front. Once inventory depletes over here people are going to lose their minds and Trump will have to go to them begging.

Yeah, if China didn't have multiple other potential markets I think things would be very different - a substantial economic slowdown for China could be destabilising for the country and the regime.

But it seems as if the global numbers are on China's side - they have other places they can direct exports to, while at the same time, if the idea was to single out China as a target of a trade war, the US has (with typical Trumpian brillance) managed to alienate and anger every potential ally.

Massive GN video on the absolute train wreck Tariffs are for American companies:

It's far worse than most people could imagine.

Let me save many of you the trouble of the predictable quip you will pat yourself on the back for: "NVidia already ruined affordable computing".

This is serious adult shit, and it affects everything, not just computers.

How many deals has he agreed to date?

I mean he had 75 countries queuing up to deal and kiss his ass didn't he?

Is there a non zero chance that China is considering Trump such a giant weakness that NOW is the time to cut the US in half?

He's probably going to announce some agreements, or concepts of agreements really, with a few small countries before the 90 days is up. That's it I think. You cannot renegotiate trade policy with the entire planet all at once on a clock. Simply does not work that way.

WH considering unilaterally adjusting trade policy with China from extinction level event to just a total disaster in bid to climb down. Remains to be seen what the Chinese would do in response since it is clear they have him on the ropes.

This will still cause absolutely hideous price increases.

With stuff not getting put on ships in Asia I think a significant supply disruption is all but certain now. It takes time to produce, load, ship, unload, and distribute. Even if Trump turned off the tariffs today it is still going to occur.

-Yep, supply chain has already been nut tapped, so there will be no escaping some pain.

Question is does Trump hold it down and keep kicking it in the balls or not.

Supposedly retailer CEOs told him their shelves will start going bare in two weeks. I assume he thinks he has that amount of time to get something done because he is a moron and unable to comprehend the lag.

More specifically, it was the CEOs of Walmart, Target and Home Depot.

I would think China understands that at this point they can't let Trump save too much face, they got to keep the screws in there for a little bit longer. They are too smart not to realize this. It should be interesting how this plays out.

To add to this perhaps they will ask for some guarantees to lower their their new trade barriers. That ought to cause a mess in the Trump camp
