I think you have an erratic and unstable idiot who has caught himself in a jam that he doesn't know how to get out of so he's flailing.
Trump is playing 4D chess. The problem is his normal tactic is to knock over the pieces and shit on the board while everyone around him applauds and tells him what a brilliant strategy it is. Now he has placed a bet on the game, and his opponent expects him to actually play the game, and Trump has no idea how, so he is making random moves and hoping no one notices.

And yet to this very hour I still see in various forums Trump's supporters pleading with people to give Trump more time to have his ingenious tariff strategy bear fruit. Clearly, FAFO got genetically aborted somewhere in their ancestry and got replaced with Trump's inbred defect to be intellectually suicidal.

I think he genuinely thought that when he did this the world would come rushing to kiss the ring.

He doesn't seem to realize that there's not much reason to make a deal even if other countries want to because they have no expectation the US will abide by the terms. That in my opinion is the #1 reason he lost. Well that and he declared war on the entire world instead of one country at a time.

I really think people ascribe a lot more intelligence and mental stability to this guy than he actually has.

Even if his plan was realistic in any way, how long do they think it takes to build a factory, for anything? Like are Americans gonna be cool with paying double for shoes for like two years until Nike builds a factory to make them for .. 2-3 times as much as they cost post-tariff?

And is Nike going to start construction on a factory in the US, only to find out the tariffs were rescinded and now that factory is useless?

Not to mention not knowing today how much the tariffs on the raw materials needed will cost tomorrow…or next week. ( sure, it would be GREAT if everything could be 100% Made in the USA from 100% American materials…but that just isn’t realistic)

Speaking of factories. How many workers in China are no longer making the goods that we're not buying?

Even if the tariffs disappeared today. The factories that WERE producing for cheap might no longer be doing so. Or they already found other, more reliable buyers. There is no guarantee that we'll return to normal. In fact, it's far more likely that 2025 is a turning point and we will NEVER go back to the easy life we had before Jan 20th, 2025.

With tariff policy sometimes shifting on a near hourly basis some days the best and really only choice is to do nothing. Corps have to hope that when the public gets a load of shortages and price increases Trump will surrender.

We know how much he admires Hitler.

I was coincidentally already reading this at The Atlantic.

They think so alike, It's like Trump is the reincarnation of Hitler.

Though if Trump was actually a student of history, he would have read what a colossal screw up the Tariffs were for Germany.

Maybe he likes Hitler so much that he wants to repeat his mistakes as well.

Email today from Black Diamond, an outdoor equipment maker:

To Our Black Diamond Community,

Since day one, Black Diamond has been built on a foundation of honesty, transparency, and dedication to our community. Today, we want to share an important update regarding upcoming tariff-related price increases—and reaffirm our commitment to deliver uncompromising quality.

Beginning May 5th, prices on most of our products will increase 10–25% due to the recent wave of global tariffs introduced by the Trump Administration. These tariffs include a base tariff of 10% on all imports, 25% on steel and aluminum products, and steep surcharges on products from China. These tariffs have dramatically increased the cost of producing our gear - by more than double in some cases. Every outdoor brand operating on a global supply chain is experiencing similar issues. We’ve absorbed as much of this impact as we can, but to continue delivering the high-performance equipment you count on, a price adjustment has become necessary.

This isn’t a decision we’ve taken lightly. We build technical, protective, and often life-saving equipment. Our global supply chain is built on long-standing, trusted partnerships, operating 41 factories in 17 countries in a tightly managed network built around safety, reliability, and performance - things we aren’t willing to compromise to chase cheaper suppliers.

We’re navigating an unprecedented and uncertain global economic environment, and like many of you, we’re doing our best to adapt. Our goal is to be transparent, and we’re sharing this now to allow for some period of transition at current price levels. We’ll continue to communicate openly, act responsibly, and stay true to what matters most: designing world-class gear that earns your trust every time you head into the mountains.

These are the actions we’re taking today. Additional country-specific “reciprocal tariffs” have been paused for now, subject to further trade negotiations. Depending on how these additional tariffs unfold in the coming weeks, further adjustments may unfortunately be necessary. As always, we’ll keep you informed every step of the way.

We’re deeply grateful for your continued support and for being part of the Black Diamond community.

See you out there,
Your fellow climbers, skiers, and adventurers at Black Diamond Equipment

If Trump were the reincarnation of Hitler, that would mean Hitler was both mentally retarded and senile. Everything I’ve read about Hitler doesn’t seem to suggest he possessed those traits.

I think Wilhelm II is actually a more apt comparison for Trump vs. Hitler—sure he’s a racist and putting people in concentration camps—but in terms of inheriting a relatively prosperous nation and squandering everything with a tactless trade war that eventually became an actual war, Trump seems to be taking us on a similar ruinous path. What did Rubio just say about America embarking on the largest peacetime military buildup in the history of the world? Before Hitler, that was Kaiser Wilhelm II.

But yeah, I really hope we don’t have to fight two more World Wars thanks to Trump.

Well, you need to remember that he's legitimately stupid.
And also this (alleged) exchange between him and General Kelly.

"Likewise, in the 2022 book "The Divider: Trump in the White House," journalists Peter Baker and Susan Glasser wrote about how Kelly once relayed to his associates that Trump had asked him: "Why can't you be like the German generals?" to which Kelly reportedly responded that German generals "tried to kill Hitler three times and almost pulled it off." According to Kelly, Trump then said: "No, no, no, they were totally loyal to him.""

I need a followup with Gen Kelly. Ask him why he failed to do his duty for the country. German Generals at least tried.

Remember Hitler would actually have empathy for those who had lost limbs which created an opening for Stauffenberg.

Trump wants nothing to do with "losers".. so gonna have to recruit a square jawed model general!

You misunderstand Trump's strategic brilliance. He had a "secret" Signal get together among his tariff brain trust. The Chinese spies just haven't completed intercepting, interpreting it and composing their response.

On a more serious note I beginning to think that maybe this whole thing has nothing to do with improving America but is instead intended to cause turmoil in American industry and stock markets. In the short term a few trusted bigwits are scoring big because they have inside knowledge which Trump statements are BS and which are factually true. They, in turn, kick back Trump's share of the proceeds via political contributions and contributions to funds controlled by Trump. When things turn really bad they can buy whole corporations for pennies on the dollar. Trump wants to be more than a real estate developer, he wants to be one of the richest and powerful men in the world.

Just think how much fund the Saudi royal fund has probably made off his maneuvers.

It's absolutely comical watching the MAGAts try to convince everyone China is lying, but when you ask they why they would lie about it to western media and what that benefits... crickets... Now, there are answers as to why Trump would lie about it.....

You know.. I know a MAGAt who thought covid was fake back in march of 2020.

I told him straight up.. does he trust Iran?
He said no.

I said does he trust our satelite photos of Iran?
He said yes the pentagon and army are trustable.

Then I said well look at the photos coming out of Iran with their mass burial pits..
Would they do that if Covid was fake?
No answer.

He hasn't talked to me in 5 years since that conversation.. still convinced by MAGA reasoning.

And which US citizens would work in those factories? Immigrants? Prisoners (aka. forced labor aka. modern slavery)
