I don't think MAGA's gonna get a lot of unemployed tech or truck workers to move to Florida to start picking fruit at $7.15 an hour if they were somehow paying that much anyways.

It's simple.

1: Deport Immigrants
2: Use Tariffs to keep out affordable products, and create terrible low wage jobs only immigrants would do.
3: ???
4: Profit

Thing is the Fox News and MAGA platforms went all in on giving the rich everything that they needed immigrants to make the system work.

Then they reversed course and went all apeshit on their own immigrant workers to demonize them.

Sorta reminds me of them saying Obama would be a dictator with death panels.. but when the actual dictator shows up.. they don't say shit even though they're complaining about retribution being real.

I'm still waiting to hear from big agra about how their undocumented field workers are being raided wholesale by ICE as well as those midwestern cattle ranchers and meat packing plants who crucially rely on undocumented workers for their business' survival. Seems like Trump got put in his place as far as sweeping the nation of illegal immigrants "except when it hurts his billionaire buddy's profits." Have cake, eat it too for the oligarchs. The rest of us, stop bitching and pick up crumbs off the floor.

Love that I think the Chinese government is the one being honest here. Fantastic.

It's not like voters elected a known pathological liar who pathologically lies, is it? Donald is lying and bragging simultaneously. Those are his only sharply refined skills

Funny how he's always been rewarded for lying even when the lies were obvious, and even when the lies were cruel or dangerous or the product of deep stupidity that would normally make someone unfit for public office. The press STILL doesn't call out the obvious. I bet the GOP Reich never thought America and its free press would roll over so easily.

Can we verify this is real? Because I think the cause and effect would still escape most in the MAGA cult, and they would be somehow blaming democrats for this like they do for every other real or imagined ill.

Even after all the dictatorial moves, trampling constitutional rights, ignoring judges and the rule of law, the moronic tariffs...

When they recently polled Trump Voters they were almost unanimous, that they would Vote Trump again if given a do-over.

It's like they knew they were voting to destroy America, and they are happy with the progress. Because hey, at least they are "owning the libs".

"Only two percent said they wish they could have voted differently"

On the other side three percent of Harris voters would change it...

If he sticks with this for a year we're going to have a massive surge in sentiment for free or nearly free trade because the treats just disappeared.

I just don't see anyone keen for a photo op for the new Maralago accords..

Everyone is taking their ball and going home and finding alternate suppliers/ markets.

As a Canadian, I just thought to look something up, as Trump dismisses our ability to resist his Mafia style trade war.

He also assumes China will have to come begging because so much of it's exports go to the USA.

17% of USA's exports go to Canada. It's the #1 country the USA exports to (tied with Mexico - for another 17%)

15% of China's exports go to the USA, which is the # 1 country China exports to.

Point being Canada has just as much ability to harm the US economy with tariffs, as the USA does to Harm China, if not more.

I also noticed that between Canada, Mexico and China, we collectively account for 41% of Total US exports.

I think these three should get together behind the scenes and have a united front...

Also, How fucking stupid is it to attack your two best trading partners collectively representing 34% of your exports, especially if you decide to attack China and are left with no allies and might even push your best trading partners into allying with China?

The EPIC stupidity of Trump.

Well the Mazda plant in Alabama is discontinuing production of the CX-50 headed for Canadian market. Existing units in transit will ship and go to dealers.

Side not appears that Ford sold Mazda to Toyota some time back. It was Auto Alliance under the Ford umbrella. No wonder they turned the Flat Rock MI plant into Mustang production.

Either way this will hurt Alabama and surrounding businesses.

Alabama FAFO.

As a Mazda fan and long time follower, an accuracy enhancement.

Ford once owned about 33% of Mazda, which was considered controlling interest.

Ford Eventually divested, but did not sell to Toyota. Shares were spread out, including a significant chunk back to Mazda, making Mazda independent again, which they still are.

But in recent times they have a partnership with Toyota in some specific areas.

Have you worked for either company ever?

Here's the problem with AI search summaries,
AI Overview
Learn more
Ford never owned 51% of Mazda. At its peak, Ford's ownership in Mazda was 33.4%, which occurred in 1995. Ford began divesting its shares in Mazda starting in 2008 and had sold all of its shares by 2015
Further down in that search link. But it only goes to 2003 that I quickly scanned.
From https://www.thehenryford.org/collec...ources/popular-topics/ford-company-chronology
1992
Ford’s F-Series pickup truck becomes the bestselling vehicle in the United States for its tenth consecutive year. Ford’s Taurus is the first car to have an environmentally friendly air-conditioning system [chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s) are neither created nor released. Ford Motor Company acquires 50% of Mazda Motor Manufacturing, renaming it AutoAlliance International.
bolded is mine. I worked at the plant across the freeway from the AutoAlliance plant from 1994-2006.

Which leads to the next AI generated summary: search term was when did ford sell its majority stake in mazda

AI Overview
Learn more
Ford Motor Company sold its majority stake in Mazda in 2008, specifically on November 18, 2008, when they announced they would sell 20% of their stake, reducing it to 13.4%. This effectively relinquished control over the company, which they had held since 1996. Ford eventually sold all of its remaining shares in Mazda on September 30, 2015.
Then I searched this. when did mazda partner with toyota
AI Overview
Learn more
Mazda and Toyota began their partnership in 2017, with a business and capital alliance agreement signed on August 4, 2017. This alliance led to the establishment of Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, U.S.A., Inc. (MTMUS) on March 1, 2018, a joint venture production facility in Huntsville, Alabama. The plant, which opened in 2021, manufactures both the Toyota Corolla Cross and the Mazda CX-50.

Business and Capital Alliance (August 4, 2017):
.
Toyota and Mazda signed a memorandum of agreement to build a continuous partnership. This involved both companies acquiring shares in each other and exploring areas for collaboration

Trump must be the only elected world leader that says things indistinguishable from satire.

This is so delusional, that he's lucky they have programmed the MAGA into ignorant gullible morons.

Because even the most superficial bit of knowledge or investigation would reveal the fact that his Tariffs are paid by Americans, not foreign countries. It's not external revenue, it's simply a tax on Americans.

And past a certain point (probably like 50%) a tariff functions basically like an embargo. As a large percentage of the country is about to discover.

What’s Happening at the Huntsville Plant?
The postponed production specifically focuses on the CX-50 models aimed at the Canadian market. Scheduled to begin on May 12, this pause comes at an interesting time. Despite the halt, Mazda has reassured everyone there will be no changes to the overall production volume at their Huntsville plant, which they share with Toyota. So, if you’re in the market for a CX-50 in the U.S., rest easy—those models will still roll off the line.

The Numbers Speak
In Canada, the CX-50 has been quite the performer, accounting for approximately 15% of Mazda’s total passenger vehicle sales. With a projected sales target of about 72,000 units in 2024, it’s clear the demand is significant. However, this sudden stop could affect availability—Mazda Canada currently has a limited supply of CX-50 inventory, alongside in-transit units that retailers can still sell.

As it stands, in 2023, the Huntsville plant produced **10,759 CX-50s** for Canada. That number was crucial as it made up the entirety of the CX-50 sales in that market. Last year alone, Alabama churned out a total of **88,336 CX-50s**, with the vast majority intended for the United States. It’s understandable that Mazda aims to utilize its only U.S. assembly plant to the fullest, especially during these challenging times.

What Does This Mean for Canadian Buyers?
The situation appears a little uncertain for Canadian buyers. If the tariffs stay put, analysts suggest that Mazda might contemplate either raising prices on the CX-50 in Canada or, even more dramatically, consider withdrawing the model from the Great White North entirely. That thought might send a shiver down the spine of loyal Mazda followers who appreciate the brand’s strong reputation.
It's bad for Canada, and the instability of the auto market. Also the businesses that count on the workers from the plant. But they FOA'd and are going to FO.
Pretty much avg 1k vehicle per day depending on a particular plant, avg 1k-1.5k VPD.

It's kinda like your post of the ranchers whose workers stopped showing up to work. (apologies if it was not you who posted that video)
