This guy at work and I like hot and spicy foods (asian, creole, etc.) and talk about them a lot. He went this weekend to a place nearby that sells hot sauces, and gave me their website. I've tried wasabe peas and lots of Indian/Chinese/Japanese/Thai/etc. foods, but I think some of the stuff on this site would probably reduce me to a whiny little schoolgirl.

There are some that can cause physical damage injesting them. They are intended to be used in other hot sauces...

A local radio station did a trivia contest and the folks who got stuff wrong had to take a toothpick dipped in various (randomly chosen) sauces.

It was on the air though, and the contestants were the on-air talent so who knows if they were really doing it.

I have a bottle of Dave's insanity sauce and that stuff is outa control. I get people every time with the "just try the smallest amount possible" deal. Its almost impossible to take too little if your eating it straight up. The rating on the side of it is "insane +". Then there is also Dave's Total Insanity sauce which is "insane ++"

I get annoyed when I see all this 'hottest sauce' sh!t.. Hot sauce like that isn't SAUCE. Sauce is something you put on food. Those crazy hot 'sauces' should really just be called 'extracts' or 'concentrates' because they're merely 100% hot and 0% flavor.

I can eat the hottest 20 buffalo wings at almost any restaurant without breaking a sweat (as long as I got a pitcher of beer). I put hot sauce on everything. I put it on my eggs in the morning and I put it on my sandwich at lunch and I put it on my steak. I try pretty much any sauce. But, you won't see me spattering Dave's Insanity waxed limited edition 3000 super crazy holy moly $300/oz hot sauce on my soup.

It's easy to make something super hot if it tastes like ass.

I've had some Jambalaya that was probably hotter than anything else I have ever eaten. I get the feeling that some of the sauces on the first site would be waaay hotter than that.

Anything that gives you the same sensation as drinking a glass of Dran-o is not a flavoring.

The hot concentrate is good for making huge batches of chili/pasta sauce. I agree with the flavor thing, but thats not the point of the super hot crazy stuff. However the Dave's Insanity sauce does have some flavor to it.

That's not a real hot sauce, it's used a couple of drops at a time for seasoning batches of chili or salsa. I don't know anyone that uses stuff that hot straight up on food. Still, 1.5 million Scoville units makes that bush league at best. The really nasty ones range up to 16 million Scoville.
