The World Health Organization (WHO) is considering a plan to ask governments to impose a global consumer tax on such things as Internet activity or everyday financial transactions like paying bills online.

How this will play out:

UN: Hey guyz, can you levy taxes on e-commerce and financial transactions so we can research how to better serve undeveloped countries?
World Governments: No
UN: k

Just because the UN is considering it, doesn't mean it will go anywhere.

You are probably correct, or at least I hope you are. However, that doesn't take away from the fact that it's ridiculous that they are even proposing these types of taxes.

Who knows how much support it really has, probably not much. I doubt it will fly in the US anyway, but who knows. The gov doesn't really listen to the people all the time.

I agree. We don't need to maintain a cess pool for other countries to toss their big chunks into.

Normally I'd say this nonsense is DOA, but the idiots in power right now may not mind adding yet another hair-brained idea to their laundry list of such initiatives.

Yes, the UN needs to go. But I'm sure the UN will find a way to spin this like they did the Climate scam, make it seem like we're guilty somehow of ripping the other poor countries off, and how their genius plan is somehow a good cause for the benefit of everyone.

The President and the Legislature have no constitutional right to allow the UN to do this. A Constitutional Ammendment would be needed in order for this to be legal in the US.

I could see those fools in Europe latching onto this. Then China and India and the United States laugh as they run them over again.

Lets get rid of the UN. Their headquarters is in New York, it should be an easy task.

You mean like blowing up the building?

No I mean like picketing the UN and scaring all the diplomats away. If we had one of those tea party meetups at the base of the UN, I'm sure they'll get the message. Remember Ahmadenajad coming to US soil? How much taxpayer money did we waste protecting that SOB?

Actually, they'd probably rush a medical team for the tragic people.

Keeping the UN around makes sense due to our grandfathered-in veto power via our permanent SC seat. If we managed to scrap the UN, there's no guarantee that we would have that much power in what eventually replaced it.

The UN gives us a re-usable get out of jail free card. If we refuse to go along with whatever they want, all they can do is cry about it. If they tried to do anything of actual substance, it would go through the SC and we'd veto it.

The anti-democratic, corrupt justification for the UN. Don't see that one much.

UN: We want to tax Americans so that we can send it to poor countries and help pay for our administrative fees.

Bush: FUCK OFF AND FUCK YOU!

...

UN: We want to tax Americans so that we can send the money to poor countries and help pay for our administrative fees.

Obama: That's not a bad idea. I'll put that above the deficit...

Good point. Because all of our deficit spending, like the war in Iraq *justified by misrepresenting UN resolutions*, is far mre important than paying the tiny, tiny sliver of UN dues.
