OR, it reveals the need amongst a large portion of the population for a radical change because they perceive the system itself is broken beyond repair and needs to be replaced, at any cost.
I'd say "and," not "or." They want change, but they don't actually know what change they want. It's the political equivalent of a crying baby -- they want someone to make it all okay, but it's not clear what okay
is. And whoever tells them it'll be okay gets their attention, even if it's nothing but a lie to keep them quiet.
The problem, as we're quickly finding out, is that Trump not only isn't the bringer of meaningful change... what change he's bringing is almost exclusively for the worse. Don't like career politicians heading departments? Well, now you have greedy business people and clueless elites, many of whom want to undermine the work of the departments they run. Hate how politicians lie? Imagine a politician so insecure that he'll tell obvious lies virtually every day, even over trivial things like his inauguration size. Don't like the corrupting influence of money on politics? You're likely experiencing the most corrupt administration in American history, where even the President is obviously interested more in personal profit than the good of the country.
The annoying part is not knowing whether or not any of these people will be wiser at the end of it. They may vote Trump and the Republicans out of power, but this may just be another reactionary swing. I wouldn't be surprised if they make the same mistake the next time another sweet-talker comes by.
