Well, she outperformed Al Gore nationally and outperformed Obama in red states (but those obvi went Republican for EC votes). It was losing the unionized Midwestern states (Mich/Wisc/Pa) that cost her (and us all) in the end. The final vote tallies in those 3 states were all within percentage points but to the victor go the spoils. Flip those 3 and Hillary wins 278-260. Hardcore Bernie Bros played a part, but not the whole story obviously. Trump turned blue collar union workers into white identity voters to some extent and turned their wives off of Hillary.

Cost us all indeed. I've been an active union member for more than 40 years in 2 different trades, and it is disheartening to witness the brain rot from the inside. They want the wages and benefits, but cannot be convinced of who supports those wages, and which party wants to repeal Davis-Bacon and would do anything possible to weaken unions.

I used to ponder the idea of moving our votes and potential for activism from our current blue state to where it might do some good, some of those swing states that figured heavily into results over the last several elections.

It didn't really factor into my move, it was more of a bonus, I was tired of being in a triple-landlocked state, a full day's drive from the mountains, where it goes from below zero in the winter to over 100 in the summer. One thing I do admire about diehard progressives is their optimism.
