OH NO! We have differing opinions! OMG!! We can all think for ourselves!!!

Free minds are BAD!!

This just shows that the peaceful transfer of power works in the US, as it has since we instituted it while Europe was still under the tyranny of kings.

California as a whole isn't dense, but consider that most of it's population is in three areas: SF bay, LA basin, and Sacramento. The rest of the state gets outvoted. A place like Colorado where the population is widespread gets the conservative vote.

Edit:
note the following:

I remember reading about a group that wants to split California into two states, Northern and Southern. I wonder what kind of changes that would cause? (Insert joke about California then being two of the top economic powers in the world.)

it wouldn't be any different if Kerry had got 51 and Bush 49, i don't see your point

it has always been this way, check the election results going all the way back, you think anyone ever got 90% of the votes?

i see no point to your OP

<puts on Devil's Advocate's cap> Didn't George Washington run unopposed in the first election?

George Washington also fought against the creation of the two party system claiming it would be the downfall of this country.

I agree with him.

Do you have any hesitation today saying The UNITED States of America?

Is North America filled with two countries (U.S. & Canada, specifically) too large to support non-divided nations?

Canada, where I was born and live today, weathered an election this past June, where one can draw similarities with the sense of being divided. Although, our numbers were 36% and 29% between the two most popular parties.

Do you consider The United States of America a divided country? Since your election has concluded, you can't help but notice the diagram of the "Red" and "Blue" states representing Bush and Kerry state victories.

Would you feel comfortable with being the Command and Chief of your country if you only had support from half of the country?

Any idea where can I find stats on the level of education per capita in the states that voted for Bush versus Kerry?

I voted for Kerry, but will support Bush. I can look past my own bias because he is my president, and I will support him.

Now if only the rest of the country had this mindset.

I had that mindset after the 2000 election, but Bush and his administration have lost my support with the actions they've taken since being in office.

Since this is the 21st century, I think it might be OK to say the United States of Europe.

Canada is not really divided along political lines. It might be divided along cultural lines or regional differences, but even then they basically share the same political beliefs.

Canadians argue over politics, but it's sort of like arguing over who makes better white bread. In the end, you're still eating white bread.

Which is why you vote for another candidate in the next election. My post was not to insinuate that I agree with everything bush does, but the ultimate show of support or opposition for a president is to vote. Getting mad, stomping around like a child, and getting worked up will do nothing, a vote will.

The country is still waiting for a uniter and not a divider. We get united when we are attacked, but on a daily basis about half the country doesn't buy into the policies of the other half to any significant degree.
It's kind of like a family that only has reunions during funerals.
