Depends. I noticed that too and thought the same thing, less government influence on peoples lives? Great!! But it could possibly mean that Idaho has the least influence on the government of the US and gets the least in return for their tax dollars.

NY is worst at daily commuting? I could understand if it was NYC, but living in the boondocks I got all highway mileage and usually had some nice scenery. My commute now is worse than I ever had it there...city mileage (same time spent commuting) and in winter weather, PennDOT plain sucks and everyone turns into a wimp with snow on the ground.

There's absolutely no reason to commit geography to memory. If you need to know that kind of information, you can look it up as necessary. I don't give two shits where any country is. It doesn't change a single thing. I can still know all about Ukraine without being able to find it on a map. That's why we have look-up tables.

I did great on every geography test I've ever taken, but I still can't tell you where several states are on a map because I purposely and immediately forgot due to the extreme unimportance of knowing that information. It doesn't matter in any capacity. I can, however, design a 16Gbps differential amplifier that makes your video card work, which is what America's education system did for me. You can gloat about being able to read a map, though, if that makes you feel good about yourself.
