That is the link posted above your message. Some people drop the "SLI" when referring to this board and just call it the P5N-E.

Hi all, my last post must have got lost in the shuffle.

Any Zalman 9700 users here? Could someone take a look in their case and see if their heatsink extends over the top of the mobo? I want to check clearances for the new build I am planning. Thanks in advance.

hi all.

i have scythe ninja rev.b,e4300 and either i'm doing something wrong or ninja does. @3ghz/1.4 vcore at orthos burn my temperatues in coretemp go as high as 65C.when i press the stop button temperatures fall down to 24C in few secs. I have 80mm intake fan@800rpm, stock fan on ninja@1200rpms and 80mm outtake fan@800rpm.
I'm using stock thermal paste that comes with ninja, the hs is sitting tight. The amount of paste applied is thin like paper. Any ideas?

just got done running prime95 and orthos together overnight, and finally found a good stable point. settings are in signature now. i also found that running my ram at 5-5-5-15@1000 made it stable, as when i ran it at 4-4-4-12@800 it failed prime and orthos. the ram timings and speed was the only thing that i changed. does that sound normal??

What are you setting for voltage for you ram when your running it at 800MHz??? If your at the same voltage that's in your sig its probably is to much. That's why your stable at 1000MHz and not 800MHz. Try lowering it to 1.92 - 2.2 or auto.

Update for anyone getting weird BSODs with this board. I was running fine for a good few weeks at 1500/1000, then outta nowhere started getting BSODs in every game I ran. Turns out it was my memory @ 1000MHz. Turned memory down to 800MHz and all is fine again. My RAM is spec'd to run at 1000MHz so I doubt its at fault. Starting to hate this board.....

Hello - just want to thank Core2 and everyone for their contributions to this thread. As for me, I'm preparing for my first build (still a month or two out). I'm 90% committed to a 650i board and the Asus seems like a solid choice. I did see that MSI's 650i board is now available at Newegg and wondered what folks here thought about it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130082

Price point is well below the Asus and it appears to have better cooling, at least on the SB.

I'm also very interested in Gigabyte's 650i, although haven't seen it available yet. Also heard it will be more expensive - not sure how much.

Anyway, thanks again - this thread has been great reading for a first-timer and I can't wait to pull the trigger on my initial build!

Welcome Edge1

I would wait for some reviews on those boards you mentioned above and then make a decision. Check the warranties and compare

All I can recommend is to re-apply the paste

That would be me

only a 300 point gain? I would have thought higher with 600Mhz more to the core

OK I've recently acquired this board and an E4300, but unfortunately one of the sticks of RAM I got was faulty, so I'm currently running 512MB single channel (ugh). For a laugh I decided to try overclocking anyway. I got to 1000mhz FSB (2250mhz CPU) and it seems stable, ran 3dmark and OCCT fine, but if I go 1mhz above that 1000, it doesn't even POST. Is there a limitation somewhere that causes that? Clearly I don't expect to get fair with my single channel RAM, and I haven't touched voltages yet, but the limit being exactly 1000 and no stability cut-off point says there's something else I'm doing wrong. Is a BIOS flash that important?

I would go with the asus or the gigabyte 650i. I had a different msi board and not only was it crappy but the support was as well.

The odd thing is I tried setting the multiplier down to 8 and it did boot with 1001 fsb, set the multi back to 9 and it still booted. Kept going and now i'm up to 1166 fsb with 9x multiplier. Very odd.

What's the highest FSB that you have tried with the 8 multiplier??

Core2 dropped my Ram Volts down to 2.17 when at 4-4-4-12 @800 and i believe that did the trick!! i also got a slightly higher score with 3D mark when at 4-4-4-12@800 but not much. i still can't seem to get it stable at 1900fsb?? you did say that you were able to reach 1900 right??

Yes, What voltages and settings are you using. Did you try my bios setup on page 92. You should give 1T a try again with that voltage. Try 4-4-4-12 1T tRC 11 rest auto.

PC6400 CAS5. It's only one stick of the usual two in the matched pair because one is faulty, but this behaviour really doesn't make sense even so.
