If your asking about Micron chips over Elpida chips. Go with the Micron chips. Here's the List
DDR2 List

i was trying to find a price/performance basis on doing so, if spending 225 on some D9 based stuff is really worth the difference in spending 150 on some Elpida based

How do you guys get the Schythe Ninja to fit? Mine hits the big ASUS heatsink when trying to install.

I just used the retail hs/fan for now, but this board was easy as pie to get up and going.

Right now I am running a PD 930 with 2 gig of Kingston DDR667, raid on 2 160 gig sata drives with a BFG 7950 GT OC 512 meg video card. This is already a fast setup, but can't wait to make the jump to Core2Duo.

It all depends on what you plan on using the computer for

On temps. Can someone tell me what the motherboard temp should be and what is a safe temp? I have all my case fans on low and my motherboard reports a temp of 49c on idle which I am wondering if that's rather warm or not. If warm I may need to kick the fans up a little more (I hate noise).

You have a lot of PCI cards in there, right? There probably trapping the heat. The sensors is right between the two PCI -E slots. That doesn't mean the MB is at that temp. Take your side panel off and have a fan blow in that area and see if the temps go down

overclocking and gaming of course - i'm gonna hit up the store and check out a kit from transcend - not the highest but there is a chance its D9 based on the cheap - is the difference between the below D9's that great?

Micron D9GMH (B6-3)
&
Micron D9DCL (CB-3)

What should i change it to from this board?

I'm trying out the Gigabyte DS3 Rev 3.3 P965 board. That seems to be the current best alternative in the same price range.

How do i know if its the Rev 3.3 Version?
Becaus ei dont want to buy a 2.0 version. Im in the UK btw so a link to a place that sells it over here would be nice.

Ah that might be why then. I have 2 x Asus 7600GT silent's in there so sandwiched between those 2 probably generates quite a bit of heat that will probably effect the motherboard sensor. Don't have an external fan to hand but my guess is probably right anyhow so I won't worry about that temp too much.

I have the PC8500C5 Rev 1.1 & 1.2 & 1.3 & 1.4 5.0-5-5-15 @ 2.2V
Micron D9GMH (B6-3) chips. The D9GMH (B6-3) chips are the best for overclocking. I've hit 1150MHz with mine. I also payed $350.00 so if you can find them go for it. This board has a unlink option for the FSB to Memory so if you wanted to go with cheaper memory and not overclock it you can.

What are your settings to get 3.4Ghz?

*Edited: It would be (425x8) = 1700FSB. But what are your voltages and other settings in the BIOS?

Thats about the Max limit I would go. What are your settings and HSF cooler. Make sure you have good case cooling

Twice today I have had sudden reboots. Both occasions when I was doing remote desktop to another PC on my network. It reboots and an error msg comes up 'system has recovered from a serious error' and has a dump file and xml which I don't understand if I look at them. I hope it doesn't keep happening and this is just some blip. Stability problems is all I need. I tried recreating the swapfile just in case as suggested on some tech forum I googled. Hmm.

Yes, there is a handful of them on the Asus forum with symptoms like yours Did you update your chipset drivers? The link is on page 92. What firewall program are you using?

ahh there is new drivers out that where released today i was running the ones prior to this 8.26 now i see they released the 8.43 drivers will try to update to them once and i am currently not running anything for firewall at this time trying to sort this out for now but i have a linksys hardware firewall once it is better.

I also notice that the connect light is green which should mean it is in giga mode and the sctivity light flashes constantly even if not doing anything on the net but the switch does not flash at all or does the dsl activity light just the mobo light it is a flash about every 1 sec contoniously. even if i do a reboot on the pc.

It is not uncommon for your NIC to continuously flash. Your NIC will constantly poll the switch as long as there is a link.

thanks for the input though also as stated in last post nvidia did release new set of drivers for the 650i mobo.

Ok, just got this board today. Running an e6300 and a Tuniq Tower. Booted at 500fsb - 3.5ghz but not stable enough to run pi. I'm going to do some more tweaks and run some benches tomorrow.

Has anyone tried this G. Skill (F2-6400CL4D-2GBPK) RAM on this board?

I looked it up on the RAM list and it says it has ProMOS chips, post 1 of this thread states "Memory: Any Micron D9xxx memory". I guess I don't have the optimal memory for this board but will it even post with this RAM?

My first post here, so hi to all

I recently built me a new rig on this board. I don't have the G.Skill, but OCZ PC6400 Platinum Rev. 2, which are also supposed to be built with ProMOS chips. No problems here, highly stable on 800 4-4-4-12 1T, I've also done a night of Memtest86 with 800 4-3-3-9 2T without any problems, but I'm still investigating what is the better setup and if it is really stable. I had to set Vmem by hand though, because auto seemed to keep it at minimum, which was not stable with 4-4-4-12 1T (my OCZ stick are rated for 2.1 normal operation).

Micron chips are supposed to OC better, but for me this was a pretty good price/performance deal and since this board allows decoupled OC for CPU and memory so I'm not to worried. I've not yet started to OC the CPU.

By the way has any one here experience with timings similar to 800 4-4-4-12 1T vs 800 4-3-3-9 2T (can't get 1T to work, and don't dare to increase V above 2.2V + 5% for loss of warranty)?

Core 2 Duo Temperature Guide

Very interesting and elaborate test. However I noticed one thing that might be of significant importance to the validity of this test. He posted trends of the temperature behaviour over the course of the 24 hour prime95 test. It seems that all pastes experience burn-in, which makes up for 'huge' fluctuations in temperature over the course of this test. Also at the end of the 24 hour test all pastes seem to be on a steep downward trend and far from a stable temperature characteristic. If this interpretation by me is correct, IMHO no conclusions can be drawn upon these results other than initial performance of all the tested products (which is not really interesting unless you change paste every day). AS themselves state that AS5 needs 200 hours of burn-in with a couple of cooling down cycles, this is almost a 10 fold burn-in time w.r.t. the 24 hours in the test. Please correct me if I'm wrong; of course the test conclusion can still be valid, but there is no way of knowing how each will stabilise.
