My first post here, so hi to all

I recently built me a new rig on this board. I don't have the G.Skill, but OCZ PC6400 Platinum Rev. 2, which are also supposed to be built with ProMOS chips. No problems here, highly stable on 800 4-4-4-12 1T, I've also done a night of Memtest86 with 800 4-3-3-9 2T without any problems, but I'm still investigating what is the better setup and if it is really stable. I had to set Vmem by hand though, because auto seemed to keep it at minimum, which was not stable with 4-4-4-12 1T (my OCZ stick are rated for 2.1 normal operation).

Micron chips are supposed to OC better, but for me this was a pretty good price/performance deal and since this board allows decoupled OC for CPU and memory so I'm not to worried. I've not yet started to OC the CPU.

By the way has any one here experience with timings similar to 800 4-4-4-12 1T vs 800 4-3-3-9 2T (can't get 1T to work, and don't dare to increase V above 2.2V + 5% for loss of warranty)?

Welcome phog
Look at page 92 of this thread for ram timing comparisons. My ram will run 4-3-3-9 1T.

What are your settings to get 3.4Ghz?

*Edited: It would be (425x8) = 1700FSB. But what are your voltages and other settings in the BIOS?

Vcore - 1.425
NB - 1.563
VDimm - 2.259

Thats about the Max limit I would go. What are your settings and HSF cooler. Make sure you have good case cooling

I've got a Zalman CNPS9500 heatsink. I was hoping it would keep the cpu a bit cooler but maybe my overclock has a lot to do with the heat. Case temp is around 40C, NB doesn't get any higher than 49C. CPU usually around high 40s or low 50s when idle. Can get over 60C with full load.

When I installed the Zalman HS I used the small tube of thermal grease that was provided. As far as thermal grease goes, do you think something like Artic Silver 5 would conduct better?

I seriously need a new HSF.
E6300 running at 2.8 & 71 C. Its throttling and thats stupid hot to run a CPU.
Its stable tho....

AS5 or MX-1 would probably bring your temps down a little. I doubt if your memory will run at Cas 3 you can try most likely you'll have to clear the CMOS to boot. A safer way would be to start with the Ras to Cas. Example your timings now 4-4-4-12 . Try 4-3-4-12, next attempt 4-3-3-12, then 4-3-3-9. Your most likely going to need more voltage to your ram to respond. Let me know how you make out

Edit: Which Corsair ram do you have? The voltage you have set for the ram at 425Mhz seems high. I never had to go over 2.0 and mostly they ran fine at 1.92 at that speed and to about 450MHz. Now for lower latencys ( less then 4-4-4-12 ) I had to go up to 2.17 - 2.25 for 4-4-4-9 1T and 4-3-3-9 1T

How much vcore are you setting? Sounds like the HSF is not seated correctly. Get some good thermal paste MX-1 or AS5 and put a dab dead center of the chip and don't try to spread it and put your HSF on and make sure the pins are in the proper orientation ( play with them to see how they work ) and press them in one at a time diagonally. If that doesn't do it replace it with a good HSF

If I set my Memory voltage to Auto in the BIOS, what program shows me the actual voltage? The brand I am using does not have any specs I can refer to... 8(

Hey, get some sleep nosleep. Welcome
Nice OC. Good job

Hey thanks for the welcome!

Ok, so I am not officially stable yet at 3.5 but am dual superpi/orthos 20min no errors stable :b My ram is giving me problems, it's rated at 533 but it won't boot above 650, even though I've clocked it to 750 before on a different board. It doesn't boot OC'ed with lax timings or auto settings. When it boots on auto settings, stock speeds it wacks out my tRAS to 31. Not sure why it does this...

Anyway, I am thoroughly satisfied with this board. I'll just have to invest in some better ram and/or wait until a better bios gets released.

Do we now have a better idea of what FSB a typical P5N-e can reach? Reviews ive read reckon its around 450MHz. But many of you here have trouble getting past 400.

Question for anyone with an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro. On top of the heatsink are pointy bits of metal. On mine I can't recall if they were malformed at all when I put it on. But I looked at it the other day while doing some stuff and now 2 of them are malformed and look like they imploded somewhat. Like the heat sucked them inwards or something. Most peculiar. Anyone else had this 'phenomenom'? It does not seem to effect how it performs however.

Only the E4300, E6600 or a 9 multiplier or higher have problems running over 400FSB. The E6300 and E6400 overclock very well. I have had mine to 475FSB stable and a 485FSB best

Stop opening the case. If your temps haven't changed then it's fine. All of mine have some sort of rough finish to them. They pinch the ends and solder them.

There is no program. The only way to know is with a volt meter. If auto works then your fine. You could try the lowest voltage 1.92 and see if that works, if that will make you comfortable

I am running this mobo with a

Pentium D 930

2 Gig Kingston DDR 667

BFG 7950 GT OC 512 meg

Schythe Ninja - I had posted it didn't fit but that was at 4 am and I wasn't awake yet

No fan on the Ninja and all stock settings I run at 43-46 Celcius up to 50 Celcuis playing Quake 4.

I plan to go with an E4300 or E6300 at some point, but for now everything is smooth as silk and my Quaking has never looked or ran better.

I am running the 0401 bios and have not had any problems so far with the Yellow slots or any of the troubles described here.

My network was doing some crazy things, but I removed the junk Firewall that came with the board and all is well.

Came across this forum topic long ago, just after I'd already bought and set up my system. Thought I'd share my current system for the record. Wish I could justify buying some better memory, but still more than happy with my current setup.

Thanks for the tip guys, Pray for me. I got the gears.. just backing up the final files. Switching to my new gears soon. I did cut the down left corner to free the NB-heatsink to the AC7 Pro fan.

This motherboard is a piece. Incompatible with my NeoHE 500W. Even when I put another PSU in it couldn't pass memtest. Got a D975XBX2 and working like a charm. Last time I buy an ASUS board or try to skimp on motherboard selection.

Sorry it took so long. I finally got around to trying my fsb higher than 400. I set it to 425 and the system was stable at 3.4GHz. The issue I had was with the memory divider. The memory was set at 796MHz but it was pig slow. The everest memory read was 2000MB/s slower than I was at fsb of 400! On the 0502 beta bios, anyone know if it changed the vdroop any or is that something that can only be done with a hardware mod?
