What do I have to do to get the CPU over 2,4? Here is a dump of CPU-Z
Also my system will not cold boot on the first try. I have to reset or turn it off than it will start ok. I get an error message that the boot was interrupted.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Fiat

Your trying to run your ram in 1T or ( 1 clock CMD ) change that to 2T or 2 clocks and you'll be fine

i put a sensor in the fins on the nb and had already added a fan - i'm getting 40-42 c temps on the NB, have a zalman HS on the SB
-still trying to iron out the BSOD i'm getting during stress testing
- i don't think that is core temp related as its ranging 47-55c during testing and both cores have identical temps with in 1c of each other
- going to adjust voltages and fsb speeds / maybe raise the fsb and drop the multi to 8x to see how that fairs if this isn't stable - don't think memory is the issue as its testing fine in memtest at these settings

at 1333 QP fsb/ 3ghz cpu / and 5-5-5-15 ddr1000 at 2.178v

Put your voltages in your sig. Try 375x8, vcore 1.47 - 150, NB Auto or 1.56. Those temps are good for the NB I get about the same and have had no overheating problems.

it tested stable at the above settings at 333 fsb (1333 QP fsb) and 1000mhz memory - only did a 2 hour run but that made me happy for the time being - going to do a 24hr run soon but 3ghz cpu wasn't the limit I was trying to set

i've tried pumping up higher and can get it to post into windows but it always craps out after a minute or two of load - set the fsb to 1450 and it will only post if the vCORE is at 1.5 or a little higher. That is way to high for my tastes but if this is normal let me know - trying to keep heat down but it'd be nice to get 3.2ghz+on the cpu

well i found out what my bottle neck is.... its my processor - my nice new shiny E4300 has a little issue with core #1 - got my system boot stable at a 1454fsb (really doesn't like 1450) but at a high 1.55vCORE - ran a couple of benchies and the temps on one core were very high compared to Core #0 - then got the wonderful BSOD

- might be over 3.0ghz not liking my ddr1000 but thats not something i'm interested in giving up

now its time to debate on keeping a 3.0ghz stable processor or return for a roll of the dice (if i can even find my receipt....)

Tempted to sell my e4300 and go for a e6400. maybe at the end of the month - just forked out for an 8800GTX

Core 2, do you know where I can find the new beta bios that was mentioned previously?

It has a downgrade in the ROM and dlxmax tested it out and didn't find any changes or fixes. If you must have PM me your email address

Haven't posted for a few weeks as I have been assembling all the required parts and I also had to put together a PC for a mate of mine (plain AM2 on an ASUS NF4 SLI board with an X@ 4200)....anyway, heres what I ended up with and then a question....

ASUS P5N-E SLI (obviously)
C2D E6600
Silverstone ST60F Strider 600w modular PSU
MSI 8800GTS 640MB
Samsung 500G Sata HDD
GTR (also known as Icute) case with a 22cm side panel fan
2G G.Skill PC6400 (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ) 4-4-4-12 (2.0- 2.1V)

Now I left the ram to last on the list cause that is what my question about...

I loaded up both 1G modules into the black slots and attempted to boot....
...one looonnnggg beeeep
after a few reboots in different slots and one ram module at a time found that one would boot fine no problem in any slot but the second produced the beeep beeep beeep memory error ....ah heck...
so I booted with the good? module and changed the mem voltage from auto to 1.92...still wouldn't boot from the other module....

...finally got the bad? module to boot at 2.085V so put the other one back in and have left it running in the BIOS setup for a while.

cheez the NB HS gets hot...too hot to touch...I haven't got the side panel fan going cause of the changing RAM thing...mind you its about 30C here in Sydney and its 9.15pm...

So should I be worried...these module are supposedly micron D9gmh chips so should be reasonably clockable...or should I take the kit back and try another set....

Graeme

So I gather I shouldn't be worried that one of these modules had problems posting till I bumped the volts....? Can they still be considered to matched if one needs fewer volts than the other? I really don't want to take them back but they were pretty expensive....

If there rated at 2.0 - 2.1 volts to run at 800MHz then setting the voltage to 2.08 seems to be where they are suppose to run. I say their fine

My memory timings are 5-5-5-15 and it is at 1000MHz. I tried it with the memory at 4-4-3-12 with the memory at 800MHz and it still has bad latency and reads compared to the 8x400. Should I try setting the memory ratio manually?

If you want performance try 424x8. Then check it you'll be surprised

I will give that a try tonight. How is the quality of the onboard sound? I currently have an audigy soundcard in a pci slot but I really need space so I was going to remove it and use the onboard one. Are there any issues with popping or static?

Thanks Core2....I'll leave it stock for a while to allow a bit of burn in before I move to O/cing. ..and I need to fit a fan to the NB and HS to the SB but wanted to get some mileage on the board before resorting to thermal epoxy for the SB sink.

I may even try to use it at a LAN party on the 17th if I can get a PCI game port to work ok...

Sorry if this has already been asked in this thread. I'm trying to choose a board. The P5N-e looks good. I'm hoping for 450MHz FSB and good stability on air. My other choices are a gigabyte 965P-S3 and an Asus P5B-E. I dont plan on using SLI and i'm not running RAID or more than 2 hard disks. What would you recommend?

If your talking 24/7 at 450FSB I would say not. I'd say a more conservative 400 FSB would fit this board. Memory performance drops off at 425FSB ( memory strap change ) so that extra 50FSB doesn't gain you much. You might want to look at the P5N32-E SLI Plus. I think it's built to handle the higher FSB better

Works great for me. Adjust the audio mixer after you install the driver/software. I use both the normal sound out and the coaxial S/PDIF out port

Ok all, I've taken the plunge.

I've had the P5N-E for a month or so.

My new build is this:

P5N-E
E4300
2GB PNY Optima ddr2 667
Sunbeam 550W modular
Evga 7900GS
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
Ultra Aluminus Case
320GB WD Hard Drive

I set the bios to automatic 20% OC. I'm booting at 2.1, no errors and whatnot. I'm waiting for my NB fan and SB heatsink to start really trying to push the e4300. My temps right now are unbelievably low, I'm using coretemp and Speedfan 8.32..... and I am averaging less that 20C at idle on both cores.

Once i get my other cooling accessories, I'll push it further, but thats it for now.

Thx Core2 for this thread, it's made my build so much easier

PS Don't know what this counts for, but it's my first build, from scratch, EVER. And this thread made it so easy.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but I am using the onboard sound on the p5n-e, and while I find it adequate, I have a problem in that it keeps resetting the config for the speakers every time windows starts up.

So basically, when I set my front, rear and sub speaker outputs, every time windows starts I ne3ed to reset it - this is most annoying, and unless someone can think of something to try I will probably have to fork out for a sound card, which I did not really want to do until I have read and understand the changes to windows vista audio - even though am currently running xp, don't want to spend more than is necessary on sound to find it is useless in vista.

So anyone got any ideas?

There is an option in the audio software to automatically detect and update speaker changes. Turn that off and your setting should remain as you set them

Will have to have a hunt around for that tonight.

I had a Audigy 2 until recently but with the SLI setup I had I only had one free pci connector which went to my wireless card, so had to use the on-board and sold the Audigy. Now one of my 7900's died and have bought a 8800gtx instead of getting another 7900, which means I could have used my Audigy again -ARGH!!

Oh well, the on-board will do for now, provided I can get the settings to stay. But I do miss my audigy :-(

Can't wait to see what the 8800GTX is like though. Hopefully it will do me at least a year and a half of gaming at 1680 x 1050 at high settings with low AA.

Current version of Speedfan is retarded. Author is also deaf to complaints. A couple of betas ago it worked fine, then he "fixed" it... Perhaps he'll return it to a working state in the future.

Yup. The 400-424 fsb range is PERFORMANCE (not "fsb hole"). It really pushes up the memory timings. Start at 424 and work your way down until you're stable. I bet you won't be able to hit 1T timing since the ram timings are already so tight in this range. Sound quality is also nice on the board; I've read that clicking the mute button on the "pc speaker" in the audio settings removes all of the abnormal sounds.

I'm wondering what NorthBridge Coolers everyone is using...

Those of you who are using the stock north bridge heatsink: have you put a fan on it? if so what size and how did you go about doing it?

At the moment I have a 80mm fan basically sitting on my video card blowing on the NB heatsink. I put some cushion under it so it doesn't rattle the vid card but I don't like this and its only temporary.

My problem with NB coolers is that I have a Tuniq Tower 120 and I'm not sure which *good* active cooler will fit on my mobo. Anyone else have the Tuniq Tower 120 cpu cooler and is using a different north bridge cooler?

Also, what nb temps are you guys getting? (1.39v running at 350-400mhz)

edit: why are you guys recomending to replace e4300 with e6400?? Nothing wrong with the e4300. Mine is stable at 3.6ghz through anything I throw at it. I'm keeping at 3.3 usually but higher speeds were just fine. Something I should know about this proc??

Maz, I have the Tuniq (mounted pointing upwards) and have the Thermalright HR-05 on my northbridge with it's own 60mm fan on. The hr-05 also fits with the tuniq pointing backwards, but it sits right up against the tuniq.

I have no idea what my NB temps are as there is no sensor on the p5n-e for it, but I am currently running at 375MHz (1400) at 1.39V and all is good and stable.
