ASUS tech support emailed it to me in response to the problem I reported with 0901 in terms of not being able to increase the multiplier. I guess you can contact them as well

The machine is running perfectly on 1001. My 4 x 1GB of RAM is running sweet at it's rated 800, tested 12 hrs on memtest fine. Northbridge volts on auto. And I increased the stock multiplier from 10 to 11, so I'm running 266 x 11 = 2.93GHz, again on auto volts, tested 24hrs Prime95. I'll never need to flash the BIOS again. After 12 months, the board is finally working as it should.

Just thought I would drop in and say thank you to Core2 for his guide over on page 92. I am running stable @3.3 with stock cooling and was unable to get past 2.8 prior to that. My 3dMark05 is 17707 and my 3dMark06 is 12061! WOOT!! And all this was achieved on the first try with Core2's guide. I did need to tweak a little no the Vcore to stabilize in Prime95 but other than that no sweat baby. Now just a note these temps are with full load as Prime 95 is running. IF any one needs the actual settings just ask and I will get them an post. Go ahead check it out:

Hi,

My P5N-E SLI-based PC was solid for over year now, suddenly when I went to power it on it would just power cycle every few sec as soon as power button is pressed with nothing on the screen.

After some troubleshooting and unplugging cables/components in hope of isolating the problem, only disconnecting/reconnecting the ATX power supply (Antec Neo HE550) cable from the board got the system to boot again). The system was solid all day and the following morning when I turned it on again. Now in the evening went to turn it on and same problem. Disconnected/reconnected the ATX connector and back up again.

Not sure if its the board or the PS. I havent made any changes to hardware or the BIOS in over 4 months (bios 801)

Any thoughts, similar experiences, etc?

Thanks,

Hey guys, Been awhile since I've checked this post. Just checking to see if there have been any updates since my last visit. Currently I'm running bios 0401 with the following hardware:

Asus P5N-E SLI (Bios 0401, currently at 1400 FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 (currently at 2.4ghz)
ZALMAN CNPS9500 CPU Fan
2 x 1g G.Skill PC2-6400 DDR2 800mhz RAM (currently at 5-5-5-15 20 2T 1.9v)
Geforce 7600 GT (beta driver 174.74)
Rosewill 550watt PS
Windows XP SP2

I've had a few BSOD and memory problems but none lately. Is there a better bios version out there that I should get?

Thanks

Hey Everyone,
got a a problem where my wireless adapter card doesnt always get power on boot up
it has a light that tells me when its on, and it doesnt always startup, so sometimes i have to restart 4-5 times before it cranks up. just wondering if anyone has a similar problem, thought it may be a mobo prob but could be the card.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, Well I have E6750 on my mobo with 901 bios, I push up to 3.0Ghz (multiplier 8x) my mems are set to 900Mhz, all te voltages are controled, NB Ffecuency to 100, Vcore 1.3500, Memory 2.085, NBcore 1.393, Vcore +100mv, FSB ulinked 1500 and memos 900, limit CPUID disabled, enhanced C1 enabled, Enhanced Speed disabled. My tempreature is good, but I can't push more than 3.0, I raise teh FSB to 1600 thats give me 3.5Ghz, but in a while I see blue screens. sometimes with this settings are unstable, which is the best settings for this CPU, and whic Bios is more stable?

I?m having trouble overclocking my Core 2 Quad Q6600 with this board. If I increase the FSB even slightly over 1200 (300 FFS!!!!) it fails to POST. I took the Q6600 out and put in a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 and got it running stable at 3.07GHz (8*384). The processor overclocks fine so it?s board that?s the problem and the best I can get is 2.7GHz (9*300).

I have to say I?m unimpressed with everything about this board. First the overclocking settings are spread to across multiple different menus instead of having them all in one place. Then the FSB is displayed at the quad pumped value so you have to divide it by 4 and then times it by the multiplier to work out what your CPU core speed will be (why not display the true frequency like every other board?). Finally, I can?t get the bloody thing to overclock at all and leaving the Q6600 in the P5N-E seems like a waste of a perfectly good processor.

sweet, still going strong I see.
This thread rules

MDPE> you probably already know this board isn't very good for overclocking quad core processors because of its power design. Some P5N-E SLI owners DO have their Q6600s running fairly well on this board, but they might have just received top tier boards.

I just came back here to see how everyone was doing with the latest 1002 bios.

As you've read in previous posts, I'm down to 3.2GHz.

I had various issues with random bluescreens, on occasion, while playing back video of all sorts, dvds, divx, etc.

I dialed it down and I'm stable, but I want MORE!!!!!!

I was used to being at 3.5GHz, so dialing down to 3.2GHz sucks.

Going to give this 1002 a try.

Will post back.

Hey Guys. I have a Lan problem with my P5N-E SLI. Once, I used WLAN with such a card, all worked. Now, I want to install indows Vista, so there are no drivers for my W-Lan. After installing Vista, i put in the lancable in the onboard slot, and i dont get a conection to the internet. I installed the drivers from cd, but it still won't work. Did i get the wrong drivers ? ATM, I'M online via XP and WLan again, because at XP I won't get a conection via lancable, too.

Yours

Has anyone tried 8GB on this board ? It is supposed to take up to 8GB, but of course history tells us this is no guarantee it actually will. With earlier BIOSs I think there would have been little chance, but the later ones seem to have improved memory compatibility a lot, so I reckon there is a fighting chance.

Has anyone had the SLI switch card go bad on this board????? I finally gave in and threw a 780i in the box last night and SLI popped right up. I couldnt seem to get the p5n-e sli to recognize it for more than a day. After setting up once it just went away completely the next day. Weird because only 1 of the 2 vga fans would drop to a lower rpm at post. So I would believe there was more than enough power to the card. Perhaps the sli bridge?? it is a little floppy for my liking. I tried ALL KINDS of stuff and to no avail...

anybody else experience the same? Cause I'd like to keep the board for a media pc... if not, it goes to the family where it will be sentenced to "life in email and word processing without parole"

Currently working on getting the 8GB working in my system so far it boots with 6gb fine but fails on 8gb now note i havent updated the bios since i bought the board.

Yes, I bought 8GB for another machine (P35 board) and it works fine there. I tried it in the P5N-E and same as you - 6GB is fine but 8GB won't boot. You don't get the normal "beep" to say all is well, and there is no output on the monitor. I suspect that 8GB is not possible with most memory. Anyway, I've just bought an ASUS P45 board to replace this one... which will also allow me to overclock past 3GHz on the quad.

Hey. Is there anybody here who has brought an Asus P5N-E recently and can tell me what bios revision it shipped with?

Thanks in advance.

OK, after wasting about 45min of my life trying to post a message on the Asus site (absolutely rediculous website, not able to log on as there is no log in box as it says "in the upper left"). Anyway, I am not sure what is going on here. I have my system at stock clock speed as I have been trying to iron out what I thought was a heat issue. The issue is that in Call of Duty 4 I play on-line for a while with no problems at all (I say a while because the time length seems to vary quite a bit). At some point in a match, I start to see dramatic amounts of frames missing. I log out of game and refresh list of servers and most of the pings it is registering are from 1000 to 3000. When I initially start the game and refresh the list I don't seem to get any over 200. I have monitored the temps of the cpu and the MB via asus probe and the cpu has gotten as high as 57C but I have replace the cooler on that with a zalman 9700. The MB temps were getting as high as 44C before I added a 50mm fan to NB and a heatsink fan combo to the SB. I also just got Speedfan and have it controlling the NB and SB fan speeds. The temp now has not gotten over 41. In any case none of these temps seem to be too high. I think something is interfereing with the USB funtionality. I am not sure but I think the SB is what controlls this.

BTW, when I added the heatsink to the SB and assembled everything the MB no longer was in control of the chipset fan speeds. Any ideas here? I have already checked connections but I guess I will have to again.

Oh yeah,
My internet is wireless and I am using a USB connector for the wireless adaptor, hence why I bought up the part about the USB problem.

To butterman, you can DL cpu-z by doing a google search. It will tell you what revision of bios you are running on the mainboard tab under bios

Well, I flashed the 1002 BIOS some time ago and I had no issues, neither I got any improvements over the previous 0901. At least with my hardware specs it works well.

1001 BIOS worked perfectly for me, and I'd guess the 1002 is pretty similar. But I have now removed my board and replaced with an ASUS P5Q deluxe. Enables me to overclock my quad past 3GHz plus it enabled me to fit 8GB RAM which was pretty difficult with the P5N-E. Guess I'll fit a cheap dual core into the P5N-E and use it to upgrade another box.

So I've been having some memory issues lately and decided I might try and upgrade my bios. Currently I have 0401 and decided to upgrade to the newest 1101 version. I'm using a Flash drive and using the EZ Flash utiity under the BIOS screen. When it checks the file I get the following message

"Downgraded ROM File was not suitable for this system"

can someone tell me what this means and how to fix this.

Thanks

Hi everyone, I have only had this board for a short period of time and have had nothing but problems with it. Well to start I blew a PSU using a PNY GeForce 8800 GTS... overloaded the amps... heh. Well to make double sure of everything I had an rma done on the board. So I have a new board.

Here is what I am running currently.

1200w Thermaltake Toughpower PSU 100amp+ sustained load ( New PSU to handle the AMPS)

P4-D 3.8

1 x 1024 PNY XLR8 ram ( have a total of 2048)
I have also been trying some Kingston Hyper-X ram ( 2x512) Both set's run the same latency.
Geforce 7600 ( using while testing )

My problem is that the computer will only stay running for about 1-2 min then completly shuts down. No if's and's or but's. Runs like it should till the shutdown.

The processor get's to about 55 degrees C before the shutdown and the chipset stay's at about 30-35 degrees. I have tried everybios setting that I can think of. even tryed new thermal grease on the CPU... I do have a aftermarked heatsink but I am using the standard P4 heatsink for trouble shooting ( the aftermarket requires me to remove the board from the case everytime I need to remove it.)

I had the powersupply tested and it passed but I have not the individual rails tested. I have tried 3 different processors, 3 video cards and 3 different types of ram all with the same outcome. So any help at all would be moste appriciated... I am wits end with the board....

Wow, this thread has really fallen apart. I guess I'll do my best to throw in some answers.

Primosavant: If you haven't resolved this yet, check to see if Nvidias net shield, firewall some such software is installed, it seems to break a few things.

to anyone asking about 1002, sounds like not many people have tried, I have been sticking with 0901 for the last several months. I might try it but for now I need to make sure i have worked the kinks out of my new vista install. see what all the fuss is about.

I have my own question, and doubt I'll get a particularly prompt response, but I'll still do my best to revive this thread.

I have a Hauppauge 1250, a cheap simple PCI-E x1 QAM/NTSC/ATSC tuner that I was using with this board. I recently got a new VGA cooler and that eats up the x1 slot. Putting the card in the x16 slot yields nothing, and I suspect it won't unless I swap the sli card, which would halve the bandwidth on my video card, a step I don't want to make. So what's a guy to do? Am I right that cutting the working x16 to an x8 would be too big a loss to be worth it? Does anyone have a good PCI QAM tuner card for sale cheap? Does anyone want a great x1 card?
