Check this crap out....WTF kind of assembly is this? Check how the SATA pins are touching one another. I hope like hell that it did not short out the board. At least I was able to get the damn thing back on.

Running the 0401 bios. Working like a charm.

I still have one device on device manager that is unknown.

It is a PCI device - the device instance ID shows

PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2360&SUBSYS_82081043&REV_02\someother stuff.

Any ideas what this is? I can't tell what this is so I can get the driver for it.

It could be your JMICRON controller. Do not install the software for this and disable it in your BIOS if you are not using it.

its the ata controller, should be on the mobo driver cd. if not you can download the drivers for the 650i series drivers directly from nvidia.

I feel for you on that one. I am getting ready to do the BIOS but I have a couple of things that I have to sort out right now. My audio is not working and the High Precision Event Timer (HEPT) has a problem. It has the yellow exclamation point in the System properties (Hardware) but I can't seem to find a driver for it.

I loaded the 0401 bios. However, my computer will only start of I use 1 stick of RAM. Whenever I try to put my second stick back in I cannot even get into the bios. (yes both in black slots)

I have to leave tonight but will try to address the issue tomorrow, any ideas by then would be great.

***edit**** I figured out the problem. I selected it to save optimal defaults when I added the new bios and it made my memory 1T and it kept crashing. Set it back to 2T and now I'm good.

You are using the two black slots and not the yellow?

weird non-mobo related event.

i just installed the xp powertoy sync toy on my new rig. everything in this rig is brand new except my audigy 2zs, a leadtek tv tuner & a 250gb ide WD hard drive which was NOT my windows or proggie files drive on my old rig.

so i install sync toy which is a nifty little proggie that lets you create folder pairs and use a variety of options to sync them together. it is all done then it asks me if i want to participate in anonymous survey stuff regarding my hardware configuration and user habits and i say no.

then sync toy opens up and it has ALL MY OLD FOLDER PAIRS LISTED! from my old PC with my old drive letters assigned with all settings still memorized.

wtf?

When putting your ram in on this board. There is not much support on the board supporting it to the case especially where the ram is located try to support the board by putting your finger underneath while pushing down with the ram and make sure its lock in
Sometime using a clean eraser and rubbing the contacts on the ram will provide a better connection when having ram issues. Make sure to blow or wipe off any eraser shaving and don't get it wet

Do you know how I should fix my HPET problem? It takes forever for windows to load...

Q. I am looking on information about your HPET (former multimedia timer) technology. I am currently developing a project requiring HPET timer support, but got stuck on some questions about where it is built into. Is it built into Intel(R) processors, or is it a mainboard-driven technology controlled by Bios/EFI? It's also very important for me to know which Intel components support HPET, since I do not know if it is widespread already or if I have to add some alternate support for other timers. I already have a link to the HPET specs, but the specification documentation did not answer my specific question.

A. The HPET (High Precision Event Timers) is a component that is part of the chipset. However, the firmware (BIOS/EFI) needs to enable it, and will provide you with the means to get to it via the various ACPI methods.

Intel(R) chipsets, since quite some time ago (at least a year, if not more), have HPET on board. However, not all vendors that sell machines with Intel(R) chipsets enable HPET in their firmware. Some have it as a BIOS option (Dell*, for example), and sometimes it defaults to Off.

sounds like it should be in the chipset driver. sounds like you may have had the feature in the bios off during windows installation and now it is turned back on?

I just disabled it in BIOS and now the problem is solved. I think this is a future enhacement.
