That is absolutley unbelievable ... we are seriously being ripped off here in the UK!

if your not planning to OC the mem, i would think you could get away with the cheapest compatible pc6400 mem. the performance hit with looser timings is fairly negligible. and you should still be able to OC the cpu.

I'm going to have to agree that this board is having issues with the 9x multi and high fsb's. I've been working on mine off and on this last couple days and its fine running at 350 when I have 1 core loaded with folding with the NB at 1.39v. But loading it with 2 instances, or running orthos, crashes it with a hard reboot anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours later depending on if I'm using it or not. Last night I swapped my 60mm that was only partially blowing over the NB and ram and hung a 80mm over the NB only and now its staying cool. So I bumped the NB voltage up to 1.56 or whatever the exact number is and loaded it up with 2 folding instances. It was late so I called it a night and went to bed. Low and behold my pc was still alive and well this morning! Its also nice that my AS5 has cured some, I've gained about 3C since I first installed it. Or it could be that its freezing cold here in the midwest right now.

So the agenda for tonight is trying to get the cpu up to at least 3.4, which is another 28mhz on the fsb. If I can manage the 1ghz OC I'll be happy. I mean seriously, 3.4ghz with SLI would just be teh sweetness, there's no other board in this price range that can do it right now. And I didn't want to burn 250ish bucks on a freaking 680 board. If anything I can wait and pick up a new revision or a 7series chipset later this year or something if I really want to take it to its limit. For a 130 bucks, I'm not expecting perfection. Besides, I really bought this chip to run in a media center sometime in late 07 or early 08 anyway. But that requires a decent mATX board first. The big desktop will most likely get a 45nm quad at that point, who knows if this board would handle one anyway. But that's another story altogether

Thanks for the help - even though I wasn't successful, I can say that I'm learning a lot as I go along!

Did you try inspecting and re-seating the CPU. You could have damaged the NB when cleaning it
Yep, I took everything apart and started all over from scratch. Got the same results. I must have done something to the NB.

Just curious, when you changed your NB heatsink, did you have any problems getting the thermal grease off?

I think the stock one is fine. I didn't touch it. Just a couple of good fans does the trick. If you plan on taking it off again do it when you first get it. It maybe easier. It might get hard when it burns in

and if you are gonna bother taking it off, the mx-1 seems to be the best choice.

The best thing I've found to use to scrape off even the toughest thermal junk that's preapplied is an old credit card. It's stiff enough to scrape off the worst of it, yet it won't nick up your chip you're trying to clean. I cut one up to make it easier to work with. Once I took off that crap on the heatsink and chip, i cleaned it with alcohol and qtips.

We only promote the best around here. Try making sure that you seat the ram well. I put my fingers under the board to support it while I jiggle them in good. Last night I tested my ram at 1066MHz and was getting errors in memtest 1.7. I first tried switching them to the black slots and no post, one at a time still errors. Then I flip flopped them around in the yellow slots and really jiggled them seated and I ram Memtest 1.7 for 3 passes no errors and my temps have dropped across the board. That was with everything Auto and only my ram voltage was set to 1.92 and the timings set to 5-5-5-15 2T. The NB dropped 10f SB 79f and my vcore was showing 1.15 in speedfan and Cpuz. So it might be worth while to move and jiggle them a bit you never know. A clean eraser will make your contacts clean if they look dull or dirty. I tried that Memtest 3.5 for windows when I was getting those errors in Dos MemTest 1.7 and it ran for an hour and a half two instances of 853mb and no errors.

Nice clock there! What are you running your cpu core voltage and northbridge voltage at? I'm VERY excited to see a 9x multi making it to 400 FSB! Too bad the 6600's 1M super pi times can't relate to the 2meg cache 6400/6300/4300 times. I've already broken 16seconds at 3.26ghz.

With 8x400 i set V NB 1´56v and Vcore to 1´3374
With 9x400 V NB 1´39 and Vcore 1´55!!!

I have bad mems.....buffalo ddr2 800 5-5-5-13 1´8v

So what did you end up doing since this morning that made that big of a change??

I can not pas 400 FSB ,i think that mems don´t pas 810Mhz...it´s rare....

Run Unlinked with your memory left at 800MHz

i would be curious to know if it is just as stable unlinked to 800mhz without changing anything else first please.
