Just got my Asus P5N-E motherboard with an C2D E4300, Tuniq Tower 120, and OCZ DDR2 800 RAM. I was able to OC it to 3.2 Ghz. I realize that I could probably go a little higher, but I am pretty happy with the current speed.
The next thing I need to do is to adjust the fan speeds since it's a bit loud right now. I installed Speed Fan, but couldn't find any config files on their site. Does anyone have a config file for Speed Fan they could send me? Also, how good is the Asus BIOS for controlling the fans? Thanks.
Welcome Aboard Rand3000
Nice job with that E4300! We've been talking about that chip most of the morning. Maybe you can give some details on how you reached 1600/800?? Did you use an 8 multiplier or 9?? What your ram speed and timings?? Put your setup and setting in your sig.
Thanks Core2 for welcoming me here. Here's what I did for the OC:
Using the default 9x multiplier.
Had to manually set the RAM timings to 4-4-4-15 with 2.0v (I'm running memory Unlinked).
Increased vcore to 1.475 and vmch to 1.563.
I then changed FSB to 1400 (3.15 Ghz) and ran Orthos and everything was stable.
I next changed FSB to 1488 (3.35 Ghz) and Windows booted just fine, but Orthos gave errors.
So I decided to back it down and went to 1422 FSB (3.2 Ghz) and ran Orthos, SuperPI, and a couple of other tests and it has been perfectly stable. Idle CPU temp is 34C and under load it is 44C.
I'm having problems updating my profile, but here are my full system specs:
