Hi All
Like many of u i falled in love with this MB after reading some really nice reviews of it an desided that this should be the card i learned to oc with.. BUT.. not going so well as ia has hoped..
Let me start on what i have in my comp..
E6300 CPU
P5N-E SLI MB off cause
Corsair Twin2x PC6400CL4 2 gb Memory
OCZ GameXStream 600W
Inno 7900GT
Zalman 9500 CPU Cooler
Added a NorthQ 3880 Chipset cooler on the NB too
Now i have read alot before started this overclocking thing so im not totaly "green"
My problem is That no mather what i do i cant get over 1500 FSB QDR.. I have raised the MB volt to 1.5, vcore to 1.45, have tryed loosing the timings to 5-5-5-18 and even set max ram speed to 400 just to make sure the ram speed was not the problem..
But still orthos crash at 1550 and up..
My ram are in Black slots and bios is the new 0401. have turned of all extra things and added a passive profil on the SB. and disabled SLI memory since it kept setting my Timings a 1T even thogh set manual set it to 2T in bios..
Is there anything else i can try..
Thx alot in advance
My guess with yours, as well as mine, is that something is overheating and/or ASUS still doesn't have the other timings quite right for certain memory, such as our Promos. Try setting your memory voltage to 1.9 or 2.0 (then go higher), NB no higher than 1.39, and keep an eye on your Vdroop when running ORTHOS. If it dips below a certain point, it will fail.
Also, make sure you do a good number of runs of memtest to make sure your memory isn't what's failing you.
Maybe Core2 has some other ideas.
Only that a lot of people have had big problems with the C4's. If you can exchange them and go with either the cheaper C5 (I have them and they worked great to 900MHz) or another brand. The SUPER TALENT 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) have really been good to a 1000 MHz

This is my first post, so... please be gentle LOL.
First of all - it is a great thread, I have been following it since the end of December, and you guys allowed me to learn a lot. Thank you.
I am not OC'ing my processor right now, and will probably enjoy a moderate overclock in the future, hopefully to allow my E6600 to reach about 3GHz. My memory should let me to go up to about 800MHz, so I have a little room here (it is presently at 667, a "leftover" from 775Dual-VSTA MB).
I would like to share one of my experiences with you, hopefully allowing you to properly test the overclock with ORTHOS or Dual Prime.
Apparently, the Windows XP has not been designed to work with dual core processors, or even the HT technology, and the performance, especially in gaming, can be severly affected! Browsing thru the OCZ memory forums, I have come across the XP update to address the issue: MS Article ID: 896256, http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256
It helped me smooth-out the jittery performance of my games, and I hope it helps you with testing your overclock.
Please let me know how (if) it works for you.
Thanks again, you guys are great.

Here is what I've settled on for now with this board.
Hank's Overclock
Does running my ram at 500Mhz with an 11:12 divider make sense, or should I be keeping it in sync with the CPU (468)?
I can't imagine it makes a huge difference, but I'd be curious.
E6300
2GB of Team Xtreem DDR2-800 CL4 Ram
0407 Bios
1.32 Vcore
2.256 vram
1.39 NB

So if i trade my set of rams out with a pair og CL5 i whould be able to get some higher FSB right?
Is't it the same as putting the timings at 5-5-5-12 insted? or is there a bigger diffrent between the CL4 or CL5

The problem with the C4's ( C5's are fine )s that Corsair has changed their chips recently ( Promos ) and they do not clock as well. Seeing you have the 0401 bios try switching your ram to the yellow slots. I tried that last night and I was amazed with my results. I haven't finished testing them yet but, it looks like they may have resolved the yellow slot syndrome with 0401
If that doesn't help then I would do a Memtest1.7 on each stick one at a time for errors and if your still having problems exchange them. The Corsair PC8500C5 DDR2 1066 clock to the moon if money is not an option

Just tryed putting them in the yellow slots now.. no problem there.. but still getting memory error with mentest running 1550 and above.
Have exchange them 2 time allready. 1 time the one block was bad. 2 time i though maby i have gotten a bad set of rams since i could not get more oc.. but now i just know that the board dont like these rams :/
I will properly trade them with the CL5...
Thx alot for your help

Don't forget about the Super Talent they clock even higher then the C5's for about the same price you paid for the C4's. Just another thought

must be corsair slacking cause the ocz platinum rev. 2 sticks are promos and they generally exceed their ratings from the feedback i have seen.
i can get them at almost 900mhz at 4-4-4-12 timings at 2.1v (spec) i i lower the timings i can go a bit higher. of course they are no micron d9's but they do have some headroom.

uly166 Welcome Aboard
Let me see a screenshots in speedfan of your Advanced tab showing your temperature offsets for CPU temp and the Core temp offsets along side with a shot of your actual temps
Edit: You might have received a great chip there. I have a E6400 that runs extremely cool too. Not quite as cool as yours but, close.

Hi Core2
I think that speedfan is wrong, and i need to change offset, but ¿why coretemp beta 94 marks the same temperatures that sppedfan?

Offsets should be 0. Its just a little hard to believe that you core temps are cooler than your ambient air ( Do you have a window open or is the air on ??). What kind of cooling do you have besides the Freezer7? You must of did a good job installing that HSF.

Hi uly166 and Core 2,
I also have a bit of discrepancy in temps, depending on the software I use.
Example: Lavalys Everest 3.5 reports the processor at 23C, Core1 at 41C and Core2 at 41C.
Asus Probe reports the processor at 35C, which is about the same as my previous MB 775Dual-VSTA reported by SpeedFan. Core temp beta 94 always seeems to be in sync with Everest - 41C both cores.
It seems logical for the core temeratures to be slightly higher than the processor - about 6C higher. I think it would be a safe assumption.
E4300 is a brand new processor, perhaps Intel has changed the sensor, or the sensor code, and it is being misread by the coretemp94/Speedfan etc.
What do you think, Core 2...?
