Isn't there a program that measures northbrige and southbridge chipset temps too?

1. The 40C just seems pretty low under a full load and it never moves... any idea?

2. Also, does CPUZ-ID show if you're running in dual channel or not?

3. I have SMART enabled in the BIOS but speedfan won't read it. Not sure what to do here?

You need to upgrade to Speedfan Beta 8 to get core temperatures. The normal Speedfan just shows CPU sensor temps. If the temp doesn't change then its not the CPU Temp that you are monitoring

I have been kinda waiting for the official 4.32 release of SpeedFan. I am not verclocking yet, and like my fans working "full speed" all the time.

My Cooler Master case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811119077
has the 80mm intake, 120mm rear, and I have added an 80mm ANTEC fan in the side window blowing directly on the processor stock HS; side fan is set for medium speed.

Thanks, Core 2.

I just installed Speedfan Beta 8 and it still doesn't show the Core temps. I got it right off this page.

EDIT: Forget it... I was using the wrong download link and wasn't signed in

hi friends..
this week finish to build my system...
But i have some problems 'cause i dont format the HD, and some drivers are mixed with the new board (my last was a S939 Nforce4 Ultra+DDR+3700 Sn Diego).

I run the Everest and obtain this values:

http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/6016/ramgm3.jpg

why i can see two speed in rams value?? 266 and 400??

Another issue are the temperature, my enviroment is hot 30ºC aprox...
Thats not the real temperature?? some idea?? my BIOS is default.

PD:...where i can found a good (for n00b or dummies) for OCing mi C2D???

Thanks a lot.

You can't just swap out a motherboard as it will confuse Windows. You have to uninstall the drivers related to the Nvidia or VIA or SiS chipsets (or whatever chipset you have). Her is a method that I use and it works great. Follow the directions or else you will fail.

Hank's Overclock

Does running my ram at 500Mhz with an 11:12 divider make sense, or should I be keeping it in sync with the CPU (468)?

I can't imagine it makes a huge difference, but I'd be curious.

E6300
2GB of Team Xtreem DDR2-800 CL4 Ram
0407 Bios
1.32 Vcore
2.256 vram
1.39 NB

Thats a real nice overclock and impressive Ram timings for that speed.

Have you checked to see if you are small FFT orthos stable at that speed and vcore? To get my E6400 stable at 3200mhz, I need my vcore at like 1.37 or so.

SpeedFan 4.32 beta 8 (28 nov 2006)
This beta adds full support for DTS temperature readings (the internal temperature from INTEL CORE DUO CPUs). I need to know if everything works fine, if readings are correct and if it works under all OSs. Please, send me reports. Reports from Windows versions that are not XP will be greatly appreciated. Due to the major rewriting of some parts of the code, beta 4 had an expiration date. Beta 8 no longer has it because no issue appeared during the previous testing time.
In order to run this beta, simply install SpeedFan 4.31, then replace the EXE from version 4.31 and then run SpeedFan as usual.

Right, finally time for me to chime in!

I've been reading through this thread since the start, gaining fantastic knowledge on the PC I'm currently building. Probably the most important thing I've read is the Corsair C4 issue. I decided to take the plunge and will be returning mine tomorrow. I'm thinking of replacing them with a A-Data 6400 2GB kit, which, according to the ddr list posted earlier, runs Micron D9GCT (B6-37E) chips. Although research leads me to believe they're not the best Micron has to offer, they seem a damn site better than the Promos chips. Huzzah!

If anyone has any experience with these A-Data chips (PC6400 Vitesta Extreme Edition), I'd appreciate a yay or nay before splashing out and possibly tripping up again.

My next request is sure to be pointless, and merely down to each person's opinion: E6400 or E6600? I'm wanting a stable but fast PC. I've already bought the ASUS motherboard this thread is dedicated to, I've replaced the north bridge cooler with a full-copper, active HSF, stuck a passive HS on the SB and have a Zalman 7000bCu cooler. Not the best cpu cooler, but I gather not bad at all. And quiet. So, with all this in mind, which CPU would be better? The Zalman is not going to offer extreme cooling, so monster overclocking is not going to happen. I'm leaning to the E6600, as is starts at a higher stock speed. But I hear the E6400s overclock better...

Basically, I'll need to be convinced not to buy the E6600. Go on then.

In the next week or so I should finally have all components ready for my new dream machine. I'm looking forward to gleaning more info from hereabouts and possibly even contributing a little

Tell him to give you a deal on the Corsair PC8500C5. With those you'll be good for a while. You can always call Corsair and complain they might cut you a deal on an exchange

You will likely get increased OC performance at a lower voltage (and thus heat) with the E6400 vs. the E6600. I'd only go with the E6600 if you're planning on sticking at or close to stock speeds, or you think you need the extra cache.

Most users report much greater headroom with the E6400s (i.e. up to 3.5GHz and beyond, with minimal voltage increases) that will negate any decrease in performance from the loss in cache.

I went with the E6600 since I planned to only moderately OC (which I think I've achieved) and I felt the extra cache would be a benefit in the future when more multi-threaded apps are released.

From what I've read online, however, is that the new E6300 and E6400 chips will have the same amount of cache of the E6600+ chips, while the E4xxx series will be the chips with the lower cache. My guess is that the E6300 and E6400 will not be quite so OC friendly once this change occurs.

Well, something strange started happening. I left my computer on over a day or two then shut it down. Upon booting back up I started getting random crashes. Windows would just spontaneously reboot with no warning whatsoever. I tried running the benchmark programs like super pi and orthos but they kept having errors and wouldn't continue. I then booted into memtest86+ and I now am getting constant memory errors where there were none before. I played around with the memory settings and tried upping the voltage but it's not going back to normal. I think I'm going to have to RMA this ram. The memory errors are specifically in the 1216-1219MB and 1276-1279MB range and the err-bits are always 04000000. Upping the voltage did reduce the number of errors a small amount but nowhere near enough. I'm still using the old bios because my flash drive is coming in the mail on Monday. Could the new bios fix this?

It is unlikely that a BIOS change will fix your problem. If your memory was working fine with the 0202 and then after awhile just started cutting out then the problem is with you memory or windows. You eliminated Windows as a problem by running Memtest (in a DOS environment, right?).

You can try to pull the memory and reseat it or change slots to see if that will help but ususlly when memory starts to get errors, its done for.

Alright, good to know. I ran the memtest that is included on my Ubuntu live CD. It is version 1.65. This memory passed over 12 hours straight on this same test 2 weeks ago. I'm going to try a few more things but I guess I'll have to initiate an RMA.

Hi meesterlars,

I agree with acivick. From what I have read in various reviews and forums, E6300 and E6400 are much more "overclockable". I am very happy with my E6600, but again, I am not planning to accomplish the record setting overclock, only about 3GHz in the near future (when I feel a bit more comfortable with my setup).

The speed of X6800 with the same 4MB cache for about 1/3 the price... And only about $100 more than E6400...

But... I do not think you will be able to approach 3.6 to 4.0GHz overclock seen in E6400...

It is, after all, a personal preference...

Hey, thanks for the heads-up! I didn't realise that cache was set to change on the 6300/6400s. Looks like the E6400 is the route to go. Brilliant. Saved myself ?80!

I don't take much convincing, it seems

you just have to wait until april for those chips, release is Q2 2007 so that means april the earliest, maybe later.
