I took Core's advice and overclocking minimally to 2700. My main question is, since my RAM is DDR2-800 4-4-4-12-2T, and it is only running at 600mhz, isn't it not utilizing all of its bandwith? I want to make sure that since I spent all that money on this RAM, that I am using it to its fullest capabilities.

If you linked the CPU and memory speed in the BIOS to the extent that it says the memory is running at 600mhz, then yeah, you're not utilizing all the available bandwidth.

so should I run a FSB of 1600 with memory at 400 then (3.0ghz with RAM at 800mhz)?

I am new to the over clocking game. I had no idea how much higher you could go with these Intel core 2 duos. Any information is appreciated.

By the way, how high can I go on stock cooling. When running PCMark, the highest I got it to go was 47C at 2700mhz? What is the limit for heat (with regards to stability and longevity of the chip)?

Also, on a side note, i could not view my PCMark or 3DMark results online... what gives?

You can set your memory up to speed. You set it Unlinked FSB speed Memory Speed 800

Example Unlinked 1200/800 9x300 =2700

That would be 1600/800 and your CPU speed = 9x400 = 3600MHz That's to big of a jump and I don't know if your going to be able to achieve that. Work your way up slowly and don't forget the higher the clocks the more you have to adjust voltages. Try Unlinked 1400/800 and 1500/800 first and watch temperature and voltage changes

Please make sure that you have the latest bios and then load setup defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.1 volts and then set SLI Ready Memory to CPU Max, and then test the module/modules one at a time with www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature ?I think I have a bad part!? and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with this MB you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.

What is the difference between linked and synced anyways? Does one have an advantage over the other?

I am using MX1 as Core2 suggested.

You can use either the HR-05 or HR-05 SLI (sits offset). Both can be used with a fan to keep the temps down.

Even though I can get to 3900, does not mean it is stable. Although I can get SuperPi to run, I can not get ORTHOS to run longer than 5 seconds. I believe it to be my memory (cheap ass mid range memory). So I ordered some Crucial Ballistics (micron chips) to see if I can stabalize it more. Also not that the memory is at 800 with a FSB of 1950 (1962 is the max I can get).

Also: FOR ANYONE WITH CORSAIR MEMORY: I have run into a problem of disappearing lables as seen in the picture below.

Disappearing Lables

Has anyone else run into this problem? If I can not get Corsair to issue a RMA to replace this memory, I am stuck with piss-ass memory (Aeneon) chips that I won't even be able to sell as Corsair. Has anyone else had a problem with the Heat Shields comming off? One side of one stick (heat shield) has come off and I can not get it to stick back on (and no I did not remove it, it just fell off). Been waiting on Corsair for 6 days now.

Thanks

Well, it has changed since the last time I asked. I was told by the RAM Guy that they were Aeneon chips and not QIMONDA (whatever they are????) Guess I need to GOOGLE to see what I can find on these chips. Good, Bad, Ugly, Paperweights?????

Don't feel bad I have a few too. Actually I could get mine to 900MHz

The 8500C5 are great and they use the Micron D9GMH (B6-3) chip. I wish I had checked the price of the 8500CD Dominator's they were only 10.00 more.

but check out intels thermal analysis tool. it gives you the proper reading and it is the most likely to be compatible with vista already.

do you know of a version of tat that works with this board? please linkie

Heck, I can't get mine above 415 without crashing and that is with 6-6-6-22 timings.

These are the worst Corsair sticks that I have come across so far. I did a memtest on them for 12 hours with no errors. They just do not like to be OCed.

The best I was doing was 1020 -1030MHz and 1040 would crash. After changing them to the yellow slots I can easily run 1066MHz on Auto or manual in the bios. Temps and voltages were lower across the board too. Now, I have always been able to use the yellow slots from day one and have had all four slots filled ( 512x4 ) till I received this new ram ( 1024x2 ) so this my not apply to you. I am just wondering if any one else has switched back to the yellow slots since upgrading to 0401. There seems there could be a little better voltage control or a remedy to this yellow slot syndrome.

Update: SLI Memory Option in the bios For all of you lucky enough to have SLI Certified Memory its worth giving it a try. The bios will read the information on the chip and will set your ram to run at its optimal performance. I said the other day that if you choose to enable this you would not have full control of the FSB and Memory speed. I was wrong ( I am learning this too. )all you have to do is select EXPERT in that option and you can change settings as you please. Experiment with full auto and manual settings for your ram and let me know if this improves performance

will try this to confirm. my yellow slots always worked fine.

Nice pics, Nevets Drassel. It's good to see the HR-05 fits nicely next to the arctic freezer. I'm going to have to get one for my north bridge with something low profile for the south.

That would be awesome. If we could add a section for the chipset cooling with pics for this board too I think that would be helpful. I need to get new pics of my build online. Should be able to do that tomorrow, tonight is out though.
