Okay guys, I need some help. Got my stuff put together over the weekend, everything seemed to go okay, system posted okay, everything recognized. I changed only one thing in the Bios "HDD Smart Monitoring to 'Enabled' ", and I got my first problem. While my Sony DVD drive was recognized in the Bios screen, it wouldn't work (no light/no response)--makes WindowsXP install tricky I swapped drives for an old CD rw I had laying around and ,boom, up and running.
Next problem I get is when I try to install Windows. I should mention this HD is being reused and had an exsisting version of XP on it. Anyways, after setting the Bios to boot from CD, Windows starts to do its thing. Windows inspects, accept liscense, press "D" to delete partition, confirm, NTFS format, waiiiiit, setup copies files, Windows goes to restart, "Boot from CD" prompt comes up (I don't press any keys because this is what I've been told to do), Windows startup screen comes up followed by an error message:
"Problem has been detected and windows needs to shut down tp prevent damage to your computer"..."Check for viruses, remove newly installed hard drives or HD controllers. Check HDD to make sure it's properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption and restart" I haven't really done any of these yet, because it's practically a brand new drive, and I'm pretty sure it's hooked up right.
I'm not really sure if this is an issue that's related to this mobo, but it's getting me frustrated. I've reinstalled Windows before this way with no problems on different systems, so I'm really not sure what the problem is. I am a bit of a Noobie, and this is the first real system I've put together myself so maybe I've got something wrong.
Sorry for the long post and any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
