Has anyone gotten Ballistix to work with this board, especially the part number I'm using? Again, I'm stable under the 0202 BIOS but only at ridiculously low speeds and timings, and I'm unstable under all conditions under 0401. And the memory passes all of the memory testing I throw at it.

i'm using the exact same ram, and have the same processor, almost same video card and i'm running 4-4-4-12 2T at 2.25 volts on the 0202 bios, also i'm running them in the black slots.. i hope that this helps out shapkahead.

Thanks, dlfcobra. One more question: can you tell me what batch your RAM is from? Crucial tech support said that one batch might be compatible, and the other not. I have 16FB3. It should say what batch you have on the sticks themselves, right after the part number.

Did you try flashing to 0401 or not? If so, any problems? How about overclocking with either BIOS?

hey your in luck my ram is also "16fb3" so it's the same batch. yes i did flash to 401 but when i was in 401 i never cleared my cmos or had the right timings in. Once i flashed back to bios 202 i set the proper timings and voltage i have yet to have a problem.. i'm just tring to get stable before overclocking i want to run some tests as is then start OC'ing. i couldn't get it to boot in 401 bios.

i'm running orthos right now on "blend- stress cpu and RAM" listening to limewire checking my e-mail and writing this..... cpu is around 30*C and MB is @28*C with the 4-4-4-12 2T timing and 2.25 volts went back into bios to make sure of that. i'm at 7mins right now...

I've got the same batch of ram as you guys do as well. I haven't had any issues yet, but I haven't been overclocking the ram yet either, just haven't had the time. Hopefully tomorrow afternoon. I like them so far. My system is rock solid right now at 3.5ghz, but I'm on the 1:1 divider so its a little short of 800mhz.

dflcobra, what frequency are you running your RAM at? It sounds like we're in the same boat, which is bad--it means we could have a compatibility issue. It could be cleared up with a BIOS revision, but that's not an ideal solution, since it could take a while. I didn't test my system extensively, but I know the RAM wouldn't take 400MHz at 4-4-4-12. I'll be curious to know what your system can do.

Imitation, you didn't have any issues with 0401? Strange.

Also, what slots do you both have your RAM in? Have you noticed any difference using one module or two? I haven't noticed a difference between yellow/black or 1/2 modules.

My computer now randomly shuts off followed by a long loud tone (beeping). All I gotta say is WTF?!

I tried running my ram with SLI enabled however it defaults to 1T even when I change it manually to 2T... still posts as 1T so I disabled the SLI

I did read this and reseated my memory but still happens:

Repeating (endless loop) Memory error Check for improperly seated or missing memory.

**switched to the yellow slots to see if that helps**

any specifics on your e6400?

3392 seems to be the sweet spot on those babies. really don't even have to up vcore much to be stable there. let us know how it goes

Unfortunately I have no specifics yet. As I mentioned earlier, I'm doing all my testing off boot cds as my hard drives are still on their way

Anyway, mprime ran overnight - no problems at all. Temps still around the 45° mark. Solid as a rock, it seems. Not a bad overclock considering I've had very little time to fiddle. I did try 1800/800, but that crashed when I ran memtest.

I'm happy with 3.4Ghz. Bloody hell, that's fast!

Just got the board a few days ago and will be putting together my system tomorrow. Can someone tell me what bios I should be using? I've heard the new one 0401 has problems, so should I just keep the original bios?

Excellent chart. apparently the vdroop really isnt that bad?

sounds like you have definitely found your max fsb. 487 isnt too shabby though. how high can you run your mem unlinked?

I can get the Crucial to 1000 easy with relaxed timings, about 970 with default timings at 2.353 (1.5v above stock although I think that I can lower it to 2.259).

Its the exact same memory that you have the AA804.16FB3. I could get to 1000 unlinked with 5-5-5-15 2T with voltage to 2.353 using the Black memory slots.

it's running at 800MHZ, i ran orthos last night for over 2-3 hrs and i didn't have a problem at all. still haven't OC'd anything yet. also i've got my ram in the black slots. i'll start playing with overclocking it this afternoon. even stressing the hell out of it it never got above 31*C-cpu 28*C-MB

Set it to EXPERT in the SLI option and it won't do that. Run memtest 1.7 check your ram for errors One long Beep is a memory error

Both will work. I didn't have problems with 0202. 0401 runs a little smoother and is better for Overclocking. Make sure you Clear The CMOS after you flash and set your memory to spec's. When you install windows install the chipset drivers from Nvidia web site ( the link is on the tips page 92 of this thread ) don't use the CD except if you want to install Probe II or Raid. Check out the Tips page for info

First off, thanks for the guide on 92. I have had this system since 20DEC06 and have found it a bit tricky to overclock. After flashing to 0401, clearing the CMOS, I still had major problems compared to 0202. I'm not sure if it is my RAM or what, but I finally did have it stable last night. Took three days after flashing to run Everquest2 stable. Now Orthos, Memtest, nVidia, and PassMark all performed well. Here's how I am currently setup:

P5N-E SLI
Manual overclock
Unlinked
FSB [1226]
RAM [800]
Multiplier [x10]
CPU Thermal Control [AUTO]
Execute Disable Bit [ENABLED]
Enhanced C1 [ENABLED] (changed)
Disabled JMicron SATA (changed), Onboard LAN boot ROM, Onboard 1394, controllers and SATA ports, USB Legacy Support
E6700 (Retail heatsink)
NB added fan
SB added heatsink
1x80mm front
1x120mm internal
1x80mm exhaust
1x80mm rooftop exhaust
MSI 8800GTX
OCZ OCZ2T8002GK 2GB Kit DDR2-800 PC2-6400 5-4-4-15 2T 2.2v (Voltage set to AUTO, not sure what the MB is setting this to! And using black DIM slots)
BFG 650w PS
x2 Western Digital Raptor 10k SATA
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
Samsung SyncMaster 204B
Thermaltake XaserV Case (modified with side panel mesh replacing the plastic)
Temps idle (celsius):
CPU - 48
MB - 35
GPU - 50
Under load:
CPU - 57-60
MB - 37-39
GPU - 57-60
Now down to the nitty-gritty and where problems arise currently.
Adjusting any of the following makes me very unstable:
VCore [AUTO] - CPU-Z reports 1.200 whereas AsusProbe states 1.41-1.47 (?)
Memory [AUTO] - memory errors
NB [AUTO] - 1.59 can't boot
Vcore Offset [+100mv]

I just finished an 8 hour run of Orthos with no errors. Appears I am finally stable. The flashing of the bios caused a major headache!

Did you update the chipset drivers on Nvidia Web site. The link is on page 92. That might help too. Try installing speedfan to compare voltages and temps links are also on pg 92

Yeah I never use the drivers off the cd if I can avoid them. Especially chipset and video drivers. I always download the newest versions from nvidia. I did use the sound driver off the CD though, haven't had any issues yet.

I think that my mobo is FUBAR

I was running Memtest86+ to check the Geil Memory at timings 3-4-4-6 2T at 800MHZ and the first pass was without incident. Halfway through the second pass, I started to get a bunch of memory errors like they were raining on my parade. Then poof - no video. Shut down the system and checked if everything is OK and can't find any obvious problems. I start the system and still no video. I see that the BIOS is recognizing the keyboard, floppy drive, CDROM, but still no video. So I change out the video card for an identical one and restart the system and still no video.

Next I removed the memory to see if the BIOS would recognize that there was no memory installed and just as I expected (was releived to hear) was the one long and two short beeps. Well, at least part of the BIOS is working.

Changed out the memory to the Ballistics and still no video. The HHD light is on and remains on at all times.

Was running the memory at 2.353v and it is rated for 2-1v to 2-3v. So I am pretty sure that it is not the memory. It could be the CPU or the NB, but the NB was at 1.563 and is cooled very well. Same goes for the CPU at 1.4000v +100mv.

Any suggestions as to what I can do next? How do I do the flash recovery if I can not get my monitor to work to see what is going on?

EDIT: Took the video card out and waited for the beep to let me know that the video card was missing - and nothing. All quiet on the home front. Now I am prettu sure that it is the NB that is unable to assume the task from the BIOS.

Oh hell, and I just RMAed my other P5N-E SLI board yesterday to get a replacement due to the SATA cable boot issue.

No success with another monitor. And after taking out the video card and trying to boot the system and I get no error warning for the video card missing, leads me to believe that the NB has gone 'south'.

NB is 'very' cool to the touch. Lack of ny warmth what-so-ever.

Sounds like a RMA to me. Isn't this your second one?

In addition, CPU-Z reports my Bank Cycle Time (TRC) as 1 clocks... that doesn't seem right and I didn't see where I could change that in the bios.

I got this board a couple of days ago. I haven't been able to read through all of this thread yet. I was wondering if someone could make a list of the known "fsb holes" and put it on the first page of these threads so it can be easily found.
