What bios are you using? I was going to do that but it seems to differ with board, chip and bios. With 0202 419 - 423 FSB and 450 to 470FSB were no go for my board and chip. With 0401 I haven't found a FSB hole yet. Read through pages 12 - 30 that should have some notes on the FSB holes with 0202

In addition, CPU-Z reports my Bank Cycle Time (TRC) as 1 clocks... that doesn't seem right and I didn't see where I could change that in the bios.

Then disable SLI and manually set them. I only used SLI as a reference to set timings. Its more for beginners that need help when overclocking. The manaual shows that the tRC is the 7th from the top. I wouldn't worry about those sub timings leave them on auto just the first 5

Hi, I'm afraid I'm another new person to the board! Thread's a bit long to get through (managed the first 20 and last 20 pages!)

Just installed a Thermalright HR-05 on the NB and a fan blowing across the SB. I understand how it helps as it gets hotter when overclocking. It's definitely cooler now so what voltage can I expect to set the NB at?

unfortunately the sb chip actually melted a little of a SATA cable I had that rested on it before i put a fan across it...wasn't pleased!

I am using 0401. Right now I am at 338x9 for the cpu. The memory is unlinked and is running at 810MHz @ 4-4-3-15. I really like to board. My main issue with it is the vcore isn't very stable. I have it set to 1.4v in the bios. When windows boots the vcore stays between 1.39 and 1.42. When I put it under load with orthos though the vcore drops down to 1.35 and stays there.

Put this little Zalman heatsink on SB .. then you'll be fine.

Read Core2's post on page 92 for guidance.

Welcome Aboard Grier

Page 92 of this thread there is a Tips and OC guide section. There is a link to a heatsink for the SB on that page too

That is because you are using Asus board.
Specially this particular MB, vdroop is rediculous.

Hey sbinh,
How's everything going. I fixed that page up a little. As things come to mind I'll add more. If you think of something that should be there PM me with it and I'll post it.

Put this little Zalman heatsink on SB .. then you'll be fine.

FYI:
I put that on my board but had to modify the heatsink so it would not touch my 8800GTX. Definitely make sure your SB setup is not touching your graphic card or you will short the graphic card out...

Here's a solution P5N-E SLI vMod or just keep raising it up

Are you running in SLI. The HR-05 SLI works good for that.

I haven't played much with it lately.
I don't know if I got "bad" cpu or not .. but it seems to me that the cpu "eats" too much ... hahahaha .... ...

I found one weird thing on this board earlier ... When i raised vcore by 1 notch .. idle temp dropped 2*C .... :Q ...

Seriously, this board is so freaking weird. It can run fine for week(s) ... but on one fine day .. it can drive you nut for some crazy error .... like: reboot, failed tests, .... or even worse, you need to turn off everything including PSU completely.

Yes, I was looking at the P5N32-E SLI Plus That doesn't seem much better. May some needed bios updates will help

sbinh - Actually have one of those. That would work with its low profile for sure.

Core2 - No. I don't know if I installed it at the wrong angle or not but I had to remove two rows of pillars. Not sure on the size difference of your card versus an 8800GTX, but my card, if you look directly at the side you cannot see the SLI bridge. The card is nearly to the next PCI-E slot. I don't see a problem with this because the SB is not warming up that much. I am definitely getting that Artic HSF though. Especially if does what it claims!

I have three ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 PRO and all work great. Low temps and super quiet. I can't believe Newegg almost doubled the price since I bought mine $29.00

Here's some really good deals

You know, I was reading through the Memtest86 history and it doesn't show support for the newer Nvidia chipsets I wonder how reliable it is than. If someone knows let me know.

Edit: Try this instead you have to run dual instances of 853mb
Memtest 3.5 for windows

ha ha now you tell me. Well I ran memtest86 v1.7 2 hours 5 passes no errors (yellow slots)

Let me know if it works

Try this site if guru3d does not work (Not working here)

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5328.html

I tried that has very limited functionality. Is works great on my sons 570 SLI.
Try it can't hurt unless you use it to overclock. May be able to overclock your VC if its Nvidia. Let me know what your impression is
