OK I tried reseating the stock HSF again. This time I took the motherboard out and put it on the table. I gave the heatsink surface a good rubbing with rubbing alcohol and cleaned the CPU as best I could. I applied a beany gun sized blob of AS5 in the middle of the heatsink and reseated it. It's still not 100% firm on all corners. One corner feels a little springy. However I booted back up and it's sitting idle at 36-40 and at 54-55c full load. Better than it was but not fantastic. I could probably overclock a little until it heat 60c at peak load.
One thing I found out while playing. Exhaust is everything on a case. I have 3 fans. 2 x 120mm and 1 x 80mm on side. If I turn off the front and side fans and leave the rear on full I get better temps on EVERYTHING.
I also need some help. I am trying to give sensible names to Speedfan temps. In Everest it has some names. Can someone tell me what the temps 'Motherboard' 'Aux' and 'ACPI are? Is 'Motherboard' the Northbridge or is Aux? What the hell is ACPI? Oh yeah I also have a CPU temp that stays at 25c and never budges.
