Yeah I got mine stable at 3.2 but I wanted to get a different heatsink for the NB and one for the SB before pushing. I think another fan in the front would help with airflow too. Currently my room is like in the 80s so that doesn't help... I think I will wait a bit to see this thing really move once the arctic winter has passed and we have our heat turned down. I do like to stay toasty when everything else is frozen

I mounted this in the front of my case, my case got 5 5.25" covers & the top 2 I positioned two DVD burners & the rest 3 I mount this on. so this fan @ 800rpm (extremely quiet) created a perfect wind tunnel effect which suck air right into the case & air flow go straight to the heat sink fans then chasis fan at the back in a straight line. So from beginning it already start cooling the ram slots then CPU & bring hot air out of the case. Instead of the front case fan which always located at the bottom of the case, that fan at most can give a little bit air flow to the HDD, & the HDD will block all the cool air from outside completely (I believe all people at least got 2 HDD installed, so you can imagine all the HDD block the air from outside. So I recommented this fan to all people here & besides the original fan, you can replace any other 120mm fan in there so you want quiet or power fan is all up to you.

OK this is one of those 'WTF' moments.

Guess what? I was running some tests earlier on and was still getting 56c or more temps on both cores. I turned up all the fans to maximum and it was pretty much the same. Now all of a sudden I am running Orthos and after a few minutes use Speedfan is only reading 42 and 43c on each core! What gives? Suddenly the paste has moved into an optimal position or something? Software screwy? The only thing I changed was to install TAT only to find it crashes and does not work on this motherboard. I checked with Core Temp and it is reading same temps. 42 and 43c respectively. This is on the stock cooler with AS5 as already mentioned several times.

I am confused. Maybe there is indeed a fault on either my motherboard (Remember me saying I bent a few caps during install). Or on the CPU or perhaps the AS5 just settled and it now working properly. Gawd knows!

EDIT: Another factor might be at play here. Perhaps the HSF is not seating right and when I move the case it puts it off seat slightly. Having run the fan on it full blast for a while may have settled it into a better seating and thus transfering the heat better (I did mention it had some spring in it and was not firm on all 4 corners). Just a thought. I will try not to move the case for now! LOL

The 1 thing that i think is odd. Is that, this problem came, when i changed from a 7800GT to a 8800GTS.

And i am getting mem errors :S

Is mem really the issue or is it something els? i am going to reinstall XP again to see if it helps. If not, then i am going to return this mobo.

But is there any GOOD out there, that can give me an answer to my problem?

Put the 7800GT back in and test your memory with Memtest86 v1.7. Link is on page 92

I have done that, and then there is no errors. and i think thats FUBAR....

Like i said, the system worked fine with the 7800GT and started making problems with the 8800GTS

Im going to reinstall XP now, and if it doesent work. Then i think P5N-E SLI is history in this house..

Whenever I try to OC over 3.1GHz and run Orthos I get this error....
2:FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
2:Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

Any idea what the cause of this is? I tried upping the Vcore but that didn't seem to do it.

What's your NB voltage at? I had to up my NB voltage to 1.56 around 3.1-3.2 with my 6600. Make sure that NB is cooled well too. I've got a 80mm fan over mine. If you raise the vcore a couple notches and the vdimm to the next level and you still aren't stable, then move them back down to previous values and then take the next step on the NB voltage. The nice thing about this board is that there aren't too many bios options, so I just use the elimination method, change one see if it works, if no then change back to previous and move to next option, rinse and repeat till you get past the errors. It takes time, but its well worth it.

Have you installed driver for 8800GTS card? If not, install it ... otherwise, .....

It could be that 8800GTS squeezes some "juice" from RAM .. Try to raise vdimm by 1 or 2 notches....

Im just about to finish the reinstall of XP, and i will get back with the results.

Did you run driver cleaner when you uninstalled the 7800GT driver before you installed the 8800 driver?

You said earlier that the putting the 7800GT back in and you didn't get errors, but the 8800GTS gives you errors. Have you put the 8800GTS into a diff machine to see if it works fine there?

This is weird. OK I now have set the CPU fan to 75% in Speedfan and pulled the case fans down to 5v to avoid noise. However whereas there was a 1 degree difference between core 1 and 2 there is now a 3 degree difference. Most odd.

i too am having trouble oc'ing the E6600, currently could get it up to 3.2ghz with memory set at 400 and fsb at 1422. 1500 and 1600 fsb i have not been able to keep stable at all, system would show bios but will reboot at windows startup.

i've tried bumping vdimm anywhere between 2.1 to 2.3, vcore up to 1.5/1.6ish, and NB up to 1.7 even, all to no avail. tho a 3.2ghz with 4mb cache still bests the E6300 i had clocked at 3.0ghz. odd thing is i was able to reach 430/1720 speeds with the e6300, with the e6600 i can't even hit 400/1600, which is what i wanted to get to.

Use a text reading software like I do. It makes reading 30 pages a breeze. They even have Carmen Electra voice as an option.

Well i'm afraid that you might end up RMA'ing the wrong part if switching video cards causes memory corruption. To me, sounds like a video card issue instead of motherboard. None of your friends or coworkers has a PCI-E motherboard you can drop the 8800 into?

Firstly hi to one and all, and sorry in advance for any wrong terminology etc, I'm a dreaded newbie!

I would just like to say that this board is imensely useful so thanks to core 2 and co.

I am not here to ask a question as after reading thorough masses of info (that admittedly, a lot of went over my head) my system is up and running.

I am just going to post what problems I had and how i resolved or got around them. I have done nothing fancy or difficult, so I thought it might be a good starting point for people with problems from the off.

OK I built my system using an old case I had and the new equipment I bought listed in my signature, essentially a new motherboard, cpu, memory, PCI-E graphics card and PSU.

Everything went ok with the install and the machine booted up ok.

Firstly with having 2 new 250GB sata drives i set up my raid array (striping). I then set about installing windows XP.

During the install i experienced many problems with copying certain files, shell32.dll etc. I thought i may have had a dodgy disk and tried another, but with different problems.

I changed the ram to different slots and managed to get the initial stage of the install to go ok (installing the raid drivers & copying files).

Once the system restarted and went into the more visualling pleasing section of the install, windows type screen, I was getting numerous blue screeen errors - IRQL_less than, MEMORY_MANAGEMENT etc loads of different ones.

I tried to install many times and didn't get anywhere.

I read on here about the ram timings and got some from the place I bought the ram www.scan.co.uk these were 5-5-5-12 (I'm unsure if this is correct at the moment). I tired again but got the same errors.

I got memtest86 and checked my ram and it was erroring all over, thousands of errors within minutes. I went back into the bios and and found the FSB & Memory Config area.

Within the FSB & Memory config, I changed FSB - Memory clock mode from auto to linked and set the memory ratio to 3:2 this dropped the ram speed to 711mhz, with the FSB (QDR) MHz set at 1066. Checked the memtest86 again and no errors at all.

I have not changed anyhting on the voltage control.

I have managed to install xp ok, then service pack 2 and a few other things.

I am going to pop in my other ram module and see how that goes. Then I'll read through this lot again and try and fine tune my bios properly to get a hopefully quick, but stable system.

I am not after anything major in terms of performance, simply the best i can get using my stock equipment without causing problems. Any advice would be more than welcome.

Thanks once again for all the information, it really is invaluable.

TOP WORK! :0)
