Fools the mobo into thinking the chip has 266/1066 FSB, which I am thinking might be the way of obtaining the 1600fsb.
That mod wouldn't benefit the P5N-E. It's an easy overclock for people with limited bios control, especially those Dell and HP mass-market machines. The board we're using has full control, and locked PCI bus settings. So, we don't need the mod and wouldn't reap any benefits.

The settings in my sig below are pretty much the extent of what my chip can overclock to. I'd say most people with the E4300 find it stable at 3.2-3.3ghz. Ignore those postings about 3.6+ghz. Sure I can boot into Windows at that speed, but it's not stable.

Anyway, I think you're trying to use the x9 multipler. Drop down to x8, set the fsb to 1600 and the ram to 800. Test for stability then start to move things up one at a time. Seems that 1628 is my max at reasonable voltage.

moving on... Somebody posted about the Scythe Kama Bay. That's just what I need to cool down my elderly Lian Li case. I can't part with this case, it's still too nice. But it's their original design so cooling isn't perfect. I pulled off the drive covers and pointed a low-speed fan in there and watched the temps drop ~10C. Next thing I knew I was ordering one of those Scythe's.

EDIT: CensusPC cancelled my order for the Kama Bay due to it "not being in stock". Either they don't want to do APO shipping for the $3.95 they listed on their website or CensusPC just plain sucks because they can't manage their inventory.

Do the IC's need passive cooling on this board? I have a lot of microcool microsinks left over from the dfi/amd days. My case is a UFO Cube so it has very good airflow. I am getting ready to replace my ninja cooler with an ultra-120 with a tt 120mm smart fan.

I personally dont' think so. I've put my fingers on mine and they aren't even warm to the touch. I thought the same thing when I first started working with this board as my DFI IC's got real hot when my overclocked opty 170 was under load. But I don't think the core2's put the stress on the IC's. You have to remember, these boards are able to handle the Pentium D's, so the core2's shouldn't put much strain on them. Least that's my theory

1. will not boot to bios after saving settings, remedied by pushing the reset button which will usually allow me to get into bios to re-tweak settings, if not, cmos reset will do the trick.
2. crashes on or after windows loading screen.
3. constant crashes of WoW during play followed by memory address errors, usually happens when i actually manage to boot to windows with 1T timings.

Don't feel too bad, you're doing better than I am and we have pretty similar setups .

Just curious, what happens if you drop you Vdimm to 2.085? That actually made my memory more stable.

In any case, I'm jealous you can do that with your E6600 with auto VCore and NB.

Yea, but is it stable at 3600MHz? Post some 3Dmark06 scores at that speed.

hmm i need to update my sig again, i dont think all the settings are on auto anymore.

and for core2: http://www.directron.com/asuscommando.html very limited stock, around 5 to 7 left.

also for anyone interested: http://www.directron.com/fp241w.html got one of these myself and it is a beautiful sight. i was able to test mine b4 buying and it had 0 dead pixels. also very limited stock, think atm there are 5 left.

yes, i do work at directron.

The commando is not any better than my P5B Deluxe. I like the P5N32-E SLI looks promising. Still the best bang for the buck is the P5N-E SLI

those a bit out of my price range, i had orginally wanted the corsair dominator ddr2 800, but we werent carrying it or was too expensive with no rebate, and newegg/zzf had no stock. the ones i'm using now at the time came with a $40 instant rebate and made them much less than same speed dominators, that plus my good experiences with ocz ddr400 made the decision for me.

question: since i can reach 400mhz/160mhz with multiplier at 8x but not at 9x, does this mean i've reached the limit on my cpu?

What have you tried for vcore. Set the NB at 1.56 and keep upping the vcore. If that doesn't get you anywhere thats it for this board. It doesn't mean you can't do better with another board. Zipzoomfly has that memory for 349 less a 40 rebate. Well worth the money. The 1066 ram is dropping and will continue with DDR3 coming soon.

If you can reach 400/1600 for 8x, then no reason for NOT doing it at 9x.
You need to give us more detail on what happened, error, issue that you got. Also, list all SET-UP which you currently have ....

I asked this earlier probably was buried a few pages back. What bios did you find to work the best with your P5B Deluxe. I'm using 903 and haven't play with my P5B in a while.

Ok, but how long can you run ORTHOS with the "Small FFTs" setting before it throws an error?

I ask this because I can boot into windows with my E4300 at 3.7ghz. Then all I have to do to reboot is run ORTHOS for about one second. That ain't stable--so it doesn't count.

Sorry about that ...I probably missed that post ...
I am still using 910. Did not touch 1004 yet (and don't want to)

Personally, I don't see any benificial to upgrade from 804 to 910. Simply because I have crapy RAM... which does not allow me to take full advantage of 910 which is

Moidfy Write to Precharge Delay default from 10 to 11

(Check their spelling .. poor Asus personnel .. they need to study Technical Writting. Specially, big business like them should not let it happens ... If you pay a little attention, the BIOS for P5N-E SLI board .. I caught few typo in there.)

With 1004, if you have QUAD Core CPU, you definitely need to update to this version (according to Asus site)... But be careful, it would be "pain in the neck" to down grade BIOS to lower version........

Yes I have noticed their errors too. So it more a ram upgrade than to benefit the OC. Maybe I'll give 910 a try. I have a Beta bios but it has performed well. Thanks

Looks good to me. Its a very detailed sig. Have you played with different multipliers? Its nice when voltages work on auto. Just be careful and monitor them so the bios doesn't set them above what is needed

Core2 is there any way to get Speedfan to work the Arctic Fan correctly? I set it like you set yours and I still have to manually drop fan 1 to 40% or it will just sit at full speed even with Auto enabled. I tried changing the stuff in the 'Speeds' section to auto variance on each speed to see if it made any difference but it doesn't seem to. I initially had it moving up and down from 40% to 50% etc but now it don't do anything anymore. No idea why. Perhaps Speedfan is just buggy right now at beta 8.

Q-Fan is disabled in the BIOS. I have most of my CPU settings in the BIOS same as you state on page 92 apart from the overclocks that is and Speedfan settings the same.

My first build
Thank you all for your advice, I finally got my first stable OC in 0401! *woot*
Recently installed Vista and *fingers crossed* so far so good...
I'd like to share my thoughts, seeing as everyone has had such varied experiences with this board. Although I've had my fair share of (dozens of) problems, I'm starting to really dig this board.

Most of my problems have been memory related, using Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 (2GB)

After 0401 flash, can no longer use Black RAM slots, only yellow
Was running stock 4-4-4-12 1T in 0202
Then running lax in 5-5-5-15 2T in 0401, until disabled SLI Ready RAM option
Now back down to 4-4-4-12 2T, cannot boot Vista @ 1T

vdimm 2.17v
Vcore 1.362v
NB 1.39v

366mhz fsb x 9.0 multi ~ 3.3Ghz @ 1466 fsb
11:12 fsbRAM

I've got some work to do, and I have these goals yet to obtain:
Memory timings back to 1T (was able to in 0202)
FSB to 400+ (haven't in either BIOS)

I have thus far limited myself to air cooling, and left the NB/SB stock, so I'm pretty happy with what I've got going so far. Been running oblivion cranked on HDR *flawlessly* and I'm running the NTune stability test as I write this.

I'm not pushing too much voltage through here, I've got great airflow, and my temps were fine in XP at slightly lower OC, but I'd really like to be sure my temps are good... Since Vista, I can't seem to find a temp monitor. PC Probe no longer works. Any Suggestions?

Just want to post to help out anyone still experiencing problems using Corsair TWINX6400 C4 RAM in the 650i.

I have 2 x 1GB sticks in the black slots. They are much more stable than the yellow slots, but I was still getting the occasional BSOD. I lodged a ticket with Corsair who recommended I manually set the DDR voltage to 1.9. I've actually set it to 2.0, and it seems to have worked - a lot more stable over the last 3 days.

Just in case anyone's had the same issue. I'm on the original (0202) BIOS btw.

Well, tried upping my fsb last night without lowering the multiplier on my e4300. Managed to get into windows with CPU at 3555Mhz and an FSB of 1580! Of course, I need to note that while windows booted and i could do basics it crashed as soon as I ran orthos, but I was expecting that. I was only trying to find out if i could push 400/1600 fsb if I did not lower my multiplier.

I set it to 1600, and it would start posting but then hang... I am sure this is a cpu limitation I am hitting and I did not want to up the vcore to high and fry my chip. Still on stock cooling.

So it would seem I am able to get the FSB I am after, but not if I lower the multiplier. But if I don't lower the multiplier, the CPU can't handle the speed... so if I need a cpu with an 8 x multiplier, would an e4200 help me in this?

Edit: I suppose the chip I am really after here is the e6400, isn't it?

No,it is not estable at 1´6v.

What are the Desired temps and Warning temps set at? I need more info. I only gave the minimal setup you have yo tweak your own Temps, Speeds, Events. Do you have Q chassis fan disabled?
