Sorry for the long post on this one. I am currently going to be ordering some new upgrades next week all the components will be bought from newegg and i just want to make sure that all will be compatible with this motherboard.

Here is old setup and new setup info:

Current

-AMD athlon 64 3200+
-Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra 939
-2x512 Geil golden dragon pc3500 ddr dual channel kit
-Antec Truepower 430watt
-Liteon 8x dvd-rw
-2x maxtor 160gig sata in raid 0
-EVGA 6800ultra agp
-Soundblaster live 5.1
-Floppy
-Viewsonic PF815 21" CRT 7 years old

New System will be few componets from above

-Asus P5N-E SLI Nforce 650i http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813131142
-Intel core 2 dou E6300 Conroe http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819115005
-2x1gig Geil Ultra ddr2 800 pc2 6400 dual channel 4-4-4-12 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820144028
-Antec NeoPower NeoHe 550W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817103941
-dvdrw from above
-hard drives from above in raid 0 again
-EVGA 8800GTS Superclocked HDCP http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814130080
-soundcard from above
-floppy from above
-Viewsonic VG2230wm black 22" 5ms DVI widescreen lcd http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16824116060

Just a few more questions then. First will the geil memory work with thios board okay as i was also looking at the super talent pcs 6400 dual channel 2x1gig http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820609026?

Also will i have any problems with the antec 550 neohe at all with power to this board?

Thanks for any info on the above just want a clean running system no boot problems ect durring initial build and will be overclocking a little bit but only using the stock coller from the core 2 for now till i can buy a new one. looking to get cpu to about 2.4-2.8 to start with after playing at stock for awhile and breaking in everything as i think this system will be a huge improvment over my old setup.

If you where to change some of the parts above try to replace them with something that is around the same price as i am right at my spending limit with the above right now.

thanks for any info you could provide to the above.

Problem is it's difficult for me to tell exactly what's causing the problem without switching out the hardware one piece at a time.

For now I guess I'll just clock back a little bit, see if I can drop the VCore and hope for the best.

try lowering the multiplier, upping the NB voltage, and upping the vdimm.

i too have a E6600 and am currently at 3.2ghz stable with multiplier at 8x, mem/fsb speed at 400/1600 1:1 ratio, NB at 1.53 and vdimm at 2.2v.

since i can get to higher memory speed with multiplier lowered, i'm guessing it's the cpu playing hard to get. i might try upping the memory/fsb speed some more, perhaps to the 430 or 450 range. if 450 holds at at 1:1 i will have achieved the 3.6ghz speed i was lookin for.

right now my vcore is at 1.425v, vdimm 2.2v, nb 1.5v, memory timings set to spec at 5-5-5-15-2T. give those settings a try and see how ur e6600 pans out.

if u're at 3.0ghz on x9 multi, my guess is ur fsb is at set at 1333 and memory at 500. run some benchmarks on that and then try the settings i've listed above and compare the results. my cpu at 1.425v runs at 34C idle.

Hit 1056 with 5-4-4-15 2T

SLI-Ready Memory doesn't let you manually oc? If I move the RAM to the black slots, I can achieve 4-4-4-15 1T, but randomly get errors with Orthos. So, I assume this is a RAM issue. Definitely will consider doing the RMA if it corrects this...

Should I be able to control the fan speeds using Speedfan? Have the Q-Fan control thingy in the bios, and my computer is now at least quiet without the fans all blowing 100%, but how I set the system to increase fan speeds when system getting warm?

Currently trying the latest beta of speedfan, but its not doing anything.... is there something else I can use?

Read page 92 it has instructions on how to install speedfan. I also put my config files on the previous page. Just copy and paste them into yours

Try this settings:

tCL (cas)= 4
tRCD= 4
tRP= 4
tRAS= 11
Command ratw= 1T
tRC= 11
Everything else= AUTO
..
vdimm= 2.08+v (or upto 2.17+v)

vNB= 1.56+v
Offset= AUTO

Multi= 9
vcore= 1.53+v (up few more notches if needed)

Unlinked ..... FSB= 1600

I have OCZ Gold XTC rated 5-5-5-15 (OCZ28002GK) but I can hit 4-4-4-11-1T-11 ....

Better yet, ... mod your board with vdroop ....
instruction from here: http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=4450&s=12

I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum, as I am a noobie here. I have been reading this post for several weeks now and have found a wealth of information and good advice. Thank you all who have contributed! It has been about 5 years since I built a computer so I have found myself having to re-learn everything over again especial dealing with the core duo.

I really have no question as of now, but I thought I would contribute how my new build has gone for all those of us out there with the new E4300. I'm currently at 3375mhz, 375FSBx 9. Stable with prime for 11hours and no errors & with memtest. Voltages are set on auto. Temps have been 32c - 41c. yesterday I finaly took the plunge and went to 0401 bios and I think the syestem is more stable. I have been able to go as high as 3555mhz at 395fsb x 9, but windows would crash about 18 minutes into orthos. everything above 1600 has been a no go. I haven't tried to go above my current settings since the bios update, so there maybe a little more room out there to play with.

I did place a fan on the NB. An old coolmaster fan I had from my old AMD CPU cooler and I have a SB heat sink on the way, so I may play around with it some after that, but the wife is loosing he cool about my mess in the office with all the parts and boxes...lol All in all; I'm pretty happy with the board and this build. Can't wait to start gaming!!! Should be a big improvement over my old AMD 2600+.

Thanks again to all of you that have contributed so much insight and knowledge!

Oh, I did ready every single post...man this has gotten long!

hmm i doubt that will work, as i've gone all the way up to 1.6v on vcore with more relaxed timings and still couldnt get it stable. but will give it a try. thanks.

Welcome Aboard SystemHalt

Does any one here have any experience with the Antec NeoPower NeoHe 550W for SystemHalt. The memory I would go with the Super Talents. They have worked well for this board based on member input.

Hi all,
I too am new to this board and forum....sorry Core2 for picking the same avatar and in truth I probably have more hair than it but it is certainly very grey these days....
Anyway my eyes are hanging out of my head from reading a good proportion of this thread and am going out to start rounding up the parts for a new system...moving from my s754 A64 3000...so it is a bit of a jump....

So new system will be
ASUS P5N-E-SLI (of course)
C2D E6600
Silverstone ST60F 600w PSU
Cheapest 8800GTS I can find

Problem for me is the memory...can't get SuperTalent RAM in Australia as far as I know...
So have the choice of Corsair C4s, G-Skill C4s, OCS Gold or Platinum, or Geil C4 all 2 gig all supposedly capable of 4-4-4-12

Seems all of these have been difficult for some members...I am willing to start off slow but would like the most compatible ram I can get...

...oh and obviously thanks to all those on this thread who have put in the hard yards for the rest of us....and it looks like maybe I can get the supertalents here but from the other side of the country...hehehe

I would personally go with the E6400 if you can swing the extra $40 bucks.

Disable Q-Fan and Q-Chassis in the BIOS. The install Speedfan and replace Speedfan.exe with beta 8 Speedfan.exe. Then make sure when you go into configure to uncheck all speeds you are not using otherwise it can get might confusing. For the CPU on each core you are probably only interested in leaving Speed01 checked. Under the Speed tab make sure you have the right Speed option selected and select a min and max speed percentage and tick auto variation. In options change the delta value to 2. Then follow Core2's other steps on page 92 and OK then tick 'Automatic fan speed'.

Hope this helps. Took me a while to figure it out with lots of help from Core2.

No worries about the avatar. I can always use a stand in double. There have been issues with the Corsair PC6400C4. Latest I heard from a member is Corsair told him to drop the voltage down to 1.92 - 2.0 and his have run fine. I have used both Corsair PC6400C5's and the Corsair 8500C5's both work great. The PC6400C5 hit 5-4-4-12 2T ( No 1T ) at 900MHz + and the PC8500 hit 4339 1T at 800MHz and 1150MHz at 5-5-5-15 2T. Maybe we can get some input from members about your other choices for ram.

Here's a new screenshot that I added to page 92.

FM 3dMark 06 400x8 Super PI CPUz 800MHz 4-3-3-9 1T

This memory is fantastic. I've had it to 1150MHz (so far and still experimenting) and it runs 1T without a hitch. It is still a relatively low voltage high speed ram 1.80 - 2.20 ( 2.20 at 1066 ) . Zipzoomfly has it still on sale with a $40.00 rebate. This is for those that want a little extra for about a 80 - 90 dollars extra that PC6400 ram. Not a bad deal if you have the extra cash

FYI:
OCZ claims I have to run SLI-Ready Memory with a setting of CPU MAX;Auto settings; vdimm 2.1-2.3 of which I posted the 4-4-4-15-1T in the black slots, but I am not stable (random times on Orthos and BSOD). Set to Expert I can't even get into XP. OCZ sent me an RMA form. The tech mentioned that the 650i is not the chip to oc, that they have better results on the 680i boards...blah blah blah I would venture to guess it's Asus's mobo.
