I forgot to mention that I put up how to instructions on page 92 for speedfan. You can also press F1 while in the program for help

That sounds normal to me! I'm running at a simular Vcore with the same CPU and heatsink--and with temps that are simular. The Core2Duo gets hot when it's busy, temps in the 60's are FINE. When you stop heavy processing the cores cool off very quickly, hence the drop down into the 20's. If you bring some fresh air into the case from the top front you'll see your temps drop down a few degrees, but that's really not critical.

Yeah, but remember that at 425 you're on a whole new strap with crappy memory timings (~25% memory performance drop). Drop down to 424 for a huge performance boost, albeit you may have stability problems since you're pushing the envelope at that speed. Check out the memtest results below:

424 fsb(1696) / 848 ram / 3392 cpu

I don't think it's the board that's the problem. Your Vcore is only at 1.325v! Many people here are running at 1.4v or more to achieve higher speeds.

Sorry managed to put this in the top level forum....maybe a moderator can delete the other one.....

Ok so I've got the board, the CPU (E6600), ram (G.Skill PC6400HZ...D9s hopefully) ...and wanted to put a Scythe Ninja on it to be sure it was Cool and Quiet...excuse the pun....can't get the Ninja locally...so was looking at the TT Big Typhoon VX...anyone used one of these? ...OR...should I just do what most of you have done and go the cheap option and put the Arctic Cooling Pro on it....is this louder than the others cause it seems to control the heat pretty well?

....oh and the case is in the mail but it has one of the 22cm fans in the side door so should keep plenty of air circulating....hopefully....

thanks again to Core 2 and co for deciding me on this as my next PC....

Guys, I wonder if someone can take photos of an Arctic Cooler Freezer Pro 7 installed and post it here. I worry that it won't seat properly.

To be absolutely sure, you have to cut the plastic on one corner otherwise it sits right on top of the northbridge heatsink. You also need to bend the fins upward a little at the same corner. After that is done, it clears the northbridge heatsink and sits properly

Thanks. Is it better to have the airflow towards the psu or should I turn it another 90 degrees to blow out from the case.

Definitely better to have it blowing out the back of the case.

PSUs run hot anyway, it makes no sense to me whatsoever to be blowing hot air into them. At the very least it may shorten their lifespan.

Hey Core2,

I have finally got a heatsink on my sb and a fan on the nb. I am ready to start overclocking. I tried to follow the steps on page 92 but am not sure how to get my FSB at 400 using the 8 multiplier. The settings for the FSB show that 533 is the lowest I can set it. Need help getting over 3Ghz.

That what I ended up having to do. Took a pair of "dikes" and snipped bits and pieces off until the darn thing would fit. Took about 10-15 minutes of small snips, didn't want to snip off more than needed. Fits like a champ now.

When we say 400 FSB we do not include the Quad Data Rate ( QDR ) that is applied. So 400FSB x 4 = 1600FSB ( QDR ) is what you set in the bios. Understand? The CPU bus is 400. So 400 x 8 = 3200MHz or 3.2GHz. OK?

Ok, that is what I was missing. Thanks. I am curious what is the highest someone with the E6600 chip was able to go up to using air cooling and stable.

From here 3600MHz 1600/800 with a 9 multi and 4-4-4-12 1T timings

thanks for the super pi # core2. I did some tweeking with ram and upped my ram to 850mhz and re ran super pi and got 16m 24 sec. so it made an improvement there.
thanks!

Core2,, umm i just don't get it i'm unable to get my ram working 4-4-4-12 @800 it ran on orthos for about 3-4hrs then froze up. changed the timings to 5-5-5-15 @1000 it ran for over 8hrs error free!! tried adjusting the voltage, played around with the ram voltage in between 2.17 and 2.25 no difference with the timing at 4-4-4-12@800 eventually froze up. funny thing is all i have to do is put the ram @1000 at 5-5-5-15 and it doesnt matter what i run on it! also if i set the FSB to 1900 still haven't found any stable settings with that FSB. ?? settings are in my sig..

I am going to buy the P5N-E SLI and add Corsair mem (TWIN2X2048-6400C4). This will be with a 150GB Raptor, X-Fi, E6600 or E6700 and an EVGA 8800GTS 320 Superclock.
Still deciding on case and PSU.

Will this RAM work with this board. I am not planning to overclock. I have read for HOURS here, and seems some say it works, others no.

I just want STOCK speed and stable DDR2

Your RAM is rated at CAS=5. Some RAM would allow to run at lower CAS but in your case, looks like you need to set CAS to 5 ... also reduce vdimm to 2.08v or 2.17v

Try this settings: 5-4-4-13 and run Orthor again.

This RAM will work fine with this board. However, need to set vdimm at first boot to 1.9+v

IMO, it's a big waste if not overclock this puppy (E6600 or E6700)
With E6600, you should be able to get 3.2GHz easily.

Your RAM is rated 667MHz .. In order to get 3600MHz, your RAM has to run at 800MHz (assuming your CPU= E6600 and ratio=9).....

So, it depends on your RAM. Some 667MHz RAM (like SuperTalent, Team Group, etc) would run fine at 800MHz (or a little higher)......

good luck!

This board gave me too much headache (which I have more than enough at work...)

Anyway, I've been thinking that I would use this CPU on P5B-Dlx board .. At least I know for sure that I can get 3.7Ghz there ... and swap E6400 to this board ....

Oh well, so lazy now ... maybe next month ... perhaps ..

Thats a good idea. Should be able to clock that E6400. Lets us know.
Good Luck!

I said to try lower voltage 1.92 - 2.17. Try 1.92 first and go up one notch at a time. You'd be surprised how well these ram sticks can run at 800MHz with low voltage. My ram can run at 1.8, but it's not an option in this bios.
