Do you enter in the memory settings in the top or bottom section in the BIOS? Such as 5-5-5-15. Referring to page 2-27 in the manual or page 28 in the PDF format.

What sold you guys on buying the P5N-E? For me it was the layout more than the features. 2 legacy PCI slots at the bottom of the board meant that I could use my 2 x Assus 7600GT Silent fanless video cards without obstructing those 2 slots. Thus I can still put my secondary audio and tv card on the board. The other thing was the 2 legacy IDE ports. Sure was handy since I don't have many SATA drives. The OC options are nice. But my buying decision was based on layout, speed, stability and noise (The less fans the better). Oh and price obviously

Yes, The first top five are the important ones. The rest leave on Auto. Set them to your manufactures spec. The 5th from the top set to 2 clocks. So an example would be 5-5-5-15 2clocks (T)

for me it was the 650i chipset, overclock ability, price, and sli capability. the last part turned out not to be useful b/c while it is possible to do sli and still fit in a pci card, there's no clearance between the bottom card and the pci card, making the 2nd video card rather hot.

What's the performance difference that you can see between the E6600 at the speed your running now and you best stable speed with the E6300

Thats good you finally got the 1T working

Welcome Lord Ironfist
I think the default heatsink with a small fan on it is enough. The SB needs a low profile heatsink on it. Check out page 92 of this thread for more options and info

What should i change it to from this board?

I'm trying out the Gigabyte DS3 Rev 3.3 P965 board. That seems to be the current best alternative in the same price range.

Hi guys,

great thread going here, especially for someone coming out of the p4 c series days.

i was wondenrig how accurate the asus probe temps are, is the CPU temp being reported by the mobo or the heatsink? my asus probe puts me at:

E4300 CPU @ 1.41vcore, drops to 1.36v load (also from asus probe)
26C idle
33C with two copies of Orthos going on small FFT (stress CPU) for 5min

I am running right now at 3.0ghz (8x375). It seems i can't hit the 400fsb mark where i want to be to run my ram at 800. Kind of want to try more Cpu voltage, but not sure where i should stop. Seems like from most of what i've read the E4300 is more vcore hungry than the 6x00 series.

Also, I'm in windows vista if that makes any difference. thanks for the help

nothing too noticeable, but a second or two was shaved off of superpi.

.....Sorry to repost this question...has anyone installed the Thermaltake Big typhoon VX (cpu HSF)....any problems with clearance, noise etc?

Core2....that ChillTEC thing looks awesome...doubt if it would fit in my new case though as the 22cm fan in the side panel would probably foul it....can't get it yet in Aus anyway.

Hi Guys,
I'm new to this forum. I must say I like it!
Core2, I followed your guide and so far I have my E6300 running at 2.5 GHz. I installed a Thermaltake Big Typhoon. I love it, it's so big! Here's my question. I'm running "Core Temp Beta 0.94." It says core #0 and core #1 are running at 28C. Here's where I'm confused, it says "TJunction: 85C." Is this right? I thought Tcase is supposed to be at 50C and TJunction at 65C. Is there a better piece of software for checking the temperature? Thanks for the help guys!

You might not find much diff. regular use .. With superPi .. few seconds count ...

You might find it diff when running AquaMark03 .. imo

Okay started overclocking pc tonight but have a few questions.

I used core2 setup from page 92 to a T and i started at 1200 with mem at 800 and 8x multi i am now currently at 1400 and almost everything windows and also 3dmark all show cpu at 2.8ghz but when i try cpu-z it shows my multi bounce from 6x and 8x so 2100 and 2800 why is it doing that do i need another setting turned off to stof it downclocking?

Think i got it now had to disable the setting for Enhanced C1 (CE1) setting in the bios now cpu-z reads it right with no jumping down in multi.

any help appreciated

I'm looking to get this mobo by this weekend and am trying to narrow down my choices on memory but need to know if D9 on this board is that much better than Elpida based chips - please let me know - thanks

I am running at (400x9)=3.6Ghz with 1.5v Vcore, 1.563v for NB, Memory at Auto, and Vcore Offset at +100mv but Orthos errors around 22 minutes. What should I do from here?

Temps: 42c for core and 34c for motherboard. This temps are from the Asus Probe.

If your asking about Micron chips over Elpida chips. Go with the Micron chips. Here's the List

Hard to say it could be your ram failing or you need more Vcore. That's a great start. Keep it up

I think everyone will say Asus probe is not a good app to use? Check your CPU temps with CoreTemp. Also read page 92 of this thread.

On temps. Can someone tell me what the motherboard temp should be and what is a safe temp? I have all my case fans on low and my motherboard reports a temp of 49c on idle which I am wondering if that's rather warm or not. If warm I may need to kick the fans up a little more (I hate noise).

I was afraid that upping the Vcore would damage the chip. Is there a way to tell what is failing?
