Hi everyone
I am new to overclocking and never have tried before. I know what i would like to achive and i want to get safe overclocking results. Below are settings i want to go for.... any suggestions?. I would be more than happy with those below.

Asus P5N-E Sli

Core 2 Duo E 6300
333 (1333) x 7 = 2.33 Ghz
V core = 1.325 (default)
Stock Intel Cooling

Memory Ocz2P800R22GK
4-4-4-12 2T/2.08v @ 850Mhz
all other settings - auto

Will unlinked mode work out better than linked.

Thanks

You need to mount your own senors to know what temps you are getting. You need a fan on the NB if you plan to overclocking and a low profile heatsink on the SB. Page 92 has some options and info

Do yo suggest replacing the NB heatsink entirely? It seems to be fairly decent and I haven't had any problems yet running at 2.8Ghz. I did add a cheaper, active heatsink to the SB. I had it lying around and thought it couldn't hurt. I don't know if it would be possible to slap a fan on the NB heatsink? I might just replace the whole thing with a zalman if I have any heating problems.

i put a sensor in the fins on the nb and had already added a fan - i'm getting 40-42 c temps on the NB, have a zalman HS on the SB
-still trying to iron out the BSOD i'm getting during stress testing
- i don't think that is core temp related as its ranging 47-55c during testing and both cores have identical temps with in 1c of each other
- going to adjust voltages and fsb speeds / maybe raise the fsb and drop the multi to 8x to see how that fairs if this isn't stable - don't think memory is the issue as its testing fine in memtest at these settings

at 1333 QP fsb/ 3ghz cpu / and 5-5-5-15 ddr1000 at 2.178v

No need to change it. I like the stock heatsink and I think it does a good job. It does need a fan on it. Use tie wraps and put one in each hole of the fan and leave some slack and wedge the slack of the tie wraps in between the fins to hold the fan there. My temps run between 94f stock to 108f OC

Put your voltages in your sig. Try 375x8, vcore 1.47 - 150, NB Auto or 1.56. Those temps are good for the NB I get about the same and have had no overheating problems.

duzytata,
you can do what core 2 said with the tie wraps or you can do what I did which was I used a old AMD stock 2800+ CPU fan and used double sided stricky tape (the Good stuff, Automotive trim type) and placed it on the center of the fan and then stuck it to the heat sink where it has asus writen across the top. Mine stays very secure with no vibration..wprked like a charm!

As for your OCing try 1450 x 9, set your ram manualy t2 and set all voltages to auto. Disable all the stuff in the bios as described on page 92. That will put you at 3262MHZ. I have found this as a very stable speed for the E4300 after much testing. That is where I start at when I'm trying to go higher. You can then work your way up in 5 or 10 point increments. To be honest There is very little differance I have found in running 3262mhz and 3487mhz (1550x9). Only a 2 point difference in 3dbenchmark 06 and a few seconds on pi32mil.... and of course the heat!

Good luck

Well I got my system stable at 3.5GHz(8x438) but the memory is running like crap. The latency went from 50.1 at my 8x400 setting to 73.4. The memory read is 2000MB/s slower as well. My memory timings are 5-5-5-15 and it is at 1000MHz. I tried it with the memory at 4-4-3-12 with the memory at 800MHz and it still has bad latency and reads compared to the 8x400. Should I try setting the memory ratio manually?

I wonder if any of you that use Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro has got the RPM-monitor to work. Speedfan gives 135000rpm. Right now I'm setting 70% of the fan speed. 100% is too loud T_T.

Okay, Ive read this entire thread, and tried everything I thought applied. Not sure if I messed it up, but Im going to RMA it and try again. Will use the guide from page 92 when I get the new one, just to make sure I do everything right. Thanks for the help. Will keep checking back to see what has developed.

I am really excited about this board, even though Im not planning on overclocking it until I have it up and running.

Hey,

I've been having some 'problems' with the NB of this board. I'm overclocking the E4300 and overall it has been pretty smoothly. However, I need to pump a lot of V in the NB to get a good stable FSB. The first FSB wall was at around 1111 with stock voltage (1.2v), the second at 1200 with 1.39v and now, with 1.56v, the wall is at 1333hz.
When I boot up the pc beyond that wall and run Prime95 blend test, it fails immediately and the screen freezes around 10 minutes the pc has booted.
I'm using stock CPU cooler and a cheap heatsink on the SB. I tried putting a 40mm fan on the NB (case horizontally since I dont have any current means of attaching the fan, I should buy heat-resistant superglue) but that didn't bring any results (except my fingers burning after 20 seconds when touching the NBHS instead of 3). The CPU temperature is around 55 at load as measured with CoreTemp and MB temperatures at around 47 at load.
The Auto option in the bios isn't changing to NB to a stable voltage so I change it manually.
Tried to change the Ram timings from 4-4-4-12 1t to 5-5-5-24 2t and speed from 400 to 700, Vcore from 1.325 to 1.5, VRAM from 1.9 to 2.1, CPU multiplier from X9 to X6 All with no result whatsoever. The max FSB stayed the same.
Do you guys think it is just my chip that needs more voltage ('bad' batch?), or does the CPU or RAM just give a lot of pressure to the NB? Or perhaps I'm just expecting to much or screwed up somewhere.

Quick system summery:
CPU: E4300@3Ghz V1.325 (stock cooler)
Mobo: P5N-e Sli (obviously)
RAM: 2x1Gb CMX2 5400, ddr2 675, 4-4-4-12-1T
Fans: front: 2x 92mm,back: 1x 120mm, top: 1x 120mm (power supply)
GPU: BFG 7900GS (top PCI-e slot)

I was hoping to get a itty bitty more out of my system but I'm hesitating to put 1.75v on the NB without changing the NB cooler and fearing hot summer days. Doubt I can RMA the board because of unsatisfactory OC results. Guess I'm lucky I didn't get the E6300.

hmmm. hardware wise that oculd be a ps issue i think. or an irq conflict.

i stay away front antech PS's these days. they just arent that reliable.

could be a windows thing maybe.

it tested stable at the above settings at 333 fsb (1333 QP fsb) and 1000mhz memory - only did a 2 hour run but that made me happy for the time being - going to do a 24hr run soon but 3ghz cpu wasn't the limit I was trying to set

i've tried pumping up higher and can get it to post into windows but it always craps out after a minute or two of load - set the fsb to 1450 and it will only post if the vCORE is at 1.5 or a little higher. That is way to high for my tastes but if this is normal let me know - trying to keep heat down but it'd be nice to get 3.2ghz+on the cpu

Thanks, I'll play around with some fans and see how that works.

I'll try the 1450 FSB in a few days. I've been running very stable at 2.8Ghz with low temps and I need the computer for homework right now. I'll run a few benchmarks before and after to see what kind of increase in performance I get. I don't think my motherboard likes the 9X multiplier that much. Anything I did at 9X was unstable as all hell. Runs solid at 8X though. I should have went with a e6300. Roftl, same price when I bought the e4300.

Thanks again!

Hi guys,

Haven't posted for a few weeks as I have been assembling all the required parts and I also had to put together a PC for a mate of mine (plain AM2 on an ASUS NF4 SLI board with an X@ 4200)....anyway, heres what I ended up with and then a question....

ASUS P5N-E SLI (obviously)
C2D E6600
Silverstone ST60F Strider 600w modular PSU
MSI 8800GTS 640MB
Samsung 500G Sata HDD
GTR (also known as Icute) case with a 22cm side panel fan
2G G.Skill PC6400 (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ) 4-4-4-12 (2.0- 2.1V)

Now I left the ram to last on the list cause that is what my question about...

I loaded up both 1G modules into the black slots and attempted to boot....
...one looonnnggg beeeep
after a few reboots in different slots and one ram module at a time found that one would boot fine no problem in any slot but the second produced the beeep beeep beeep memory error ....ah heck...
so I booted with the good? module and changed the mem voltage from auto to 1.92...still wouldn't boot from the other module....

...finally got the bad? module to boot at 2.085V so put the other one back in and have left it running in the BIOS setup for a while.

cheez the NB HS gets hot...too hot to touch...I haven't got the side panel fan going cause of the changing RAM thing...mind you its about 30C here in Sydney and its 9.15pm...

So should I be worried...these module are supposedly micron D9gmh chips so should be reasonably clockable...or should I take the kit back and try another set....

I read somewhere previously that there was an 05 beta bios to try out - anyone know where I can download it to try?

If you want performance try 424x8. Then check it you'll be surprised

All you people with the E4300 have to get together and compare notes. I don't have one and have never tried one. There maybe FSB holes that will effect your posts so if you can't post and have tried different voltages move on to a different FSB and multipliers.
