My tuniq also points upwards... I couldn't get it to blow out the back with the capacitors I think. Anyhow... which direction do you have that fan on the nb hs blowing? up? No issues with video card getting in the way?

edit: that hr05: do you have the one that just goes straight up off the nb or do you have the one that sort of goes off to the side (sli edition hr05)?

I have this board:
8800gts 640
WesternDigital 320
OCZ DDR2 800 2GB ram
NH-12 Heat sink

I get freezes/BSOD on HL2, had the same issue with Quake4 untill i patched it. But im still having issues with HL2

I can play OBLIVION and FEAR with no issues for hours, so i don't think its heating issues.

I will compile a Bigger report with symptoms and BIOS settings (which i haven't changed squat), i am not OCING but i do plan on OCing once i get this thing little more stable,
It has been a frustrating week since i put this POS together.
Il have this in Tech support.

Microcool NorthPole XE Whisper. Fits just barely under my Tuniq 120. And the Tuniq faces the exhaust fan, not the power supply.

Good luck with your build. I'm pleased with the Tuniq Tower 120 and Whisper XE combination...

Yeah, have it blowing up. Plenty of clearance between fan/heatsink and GPU. It's the standard hr-05, not the SLI one.

GreyGeezer - Your tuniq is positioned so that it blows out the back? How did you fit it on this board that way??? I believe it was either that the bracket just didn't match up that way or that there were two large capacitors in the way. How did you do it?

No capacitors in the way. My biggest concern was my rear exhaust fan on the Cooler Master case. The Tuniq clears it by about an 1/8". But it clears it...

I'll see if I can borrow a digital camera, and post a picture.

That would be great. I'm at work at the moment so I cant look at my rig but I swear that when I was putting the tuniq on it just wouldn't fit that way. I would definately rather have it blowing out the back though. Of course then it would hang over the nb more I think and I'm actually getting really good temps. I idle at 32c or 33c when running at 3.3ghz. Not as good as the anandtech review but I suspect that if I didn't have it all crammed in my case and out in the open in a room below 70 degrees F then I would prob get same temps they did.

I'm at home, but don't have a camera anymore. It was 'adopted'/'borrowed' by my girlfriend. But I'll get some pictures for you.

Maz, the capacitors also got in the way for me. I could install it facing back, but only by bending the capacitors slightly and I changed it to blowing up as I was afraid of snapping the capacitors off. Also, its a better fit with the hr-05 blowing up.

I don't think there is any difference in the performance of the tower which ever way it is blowing.

First off a quick hi, and thank you to everyone for this thread. In my research for a motherboard to go with the E6400 I was buying this thread is what got me to buy the P5NE-SLI..

I'm starting to assemble the parts and I have a quick question before mounting my Arctic freezer 7. I'm familiar with Arctic Silver's instructions on both AS5 and ASC with dual core CPU's. They say use a very thin strip or line down the heatsink so it covers both cores.. From this thread I decided to try the MX-1 compound and I have a question on using it. The instructions say just a small dab in the center of the heatsink. Is this going to be enough for both cores? Should I use a thin line like I would if I used AS5 so it will cover both cores? This is all that is stopping me from mounting the heatsink before installing the motherboard and connecting the power.

If I were you I would put a paper thin layer on just like with as5.

Hey, Santa, Welcome Aboard
The Freezer7 Pro comes pre-applied with MX-1 unless you took it off. If you did then a small dab ( small pea size ) dead center of the chip will do. Don't try to spread it. It will spread evenly when you apply the heatsink.

Yeah I started to move the capacitors too then I decided screw it because once you start doing that crap its only a matter of time till they snap. Each bend weakens the connectors.

I tend to agree with you that performance of the tuniq wouldn't be that affected by facing it back as opposed to up. I'm just worried that putting a nice tall heatsink on the nb with a fan thats blowing up into the tuniq will raise my cpu temps... something tells me that that won't be an issue though. Having the tuniq blow up might be better in a case like the Antec Nine Hundred anyhow considering it has that 200mm fan at the top which will be right above the cpu since the power supply is at the bottom of the case.

Yep I already took it off, I've lapped the heatsink.. I wasn't planning on trying to spread it around. Was curious because MX-1 says a dab dead center and AS5 says a thin line dead center to cover both cores. I just don't want to have to remove and replace the heatsink to redo the MX-1 if I do it wrong..

Edit: I forgot... Thanks for the welcome.. It took me about 3 days to read all 125 pages of the thread the first time and each time I went looking to check info, I had about 10 pages to catch up on.. That was a lot of late nite reading..

What do I need to adjust to get the cpu running past 2.4? I have reviewed page 92 and have set the FSB (QDR) up as far as 1350 what's next?
Vcore 1.33
mem auto
Nb1.56

Thanks,
Fiat

Can someone who uses speedfan pls tell me if core0 and core1 temps actually mean something... or should I just be concerning myself with the top temp1 which matches pc probe for cpu temp?

My first problem with stability just arrived. Last night and this morning I had two random crashed. One was the computer freezing and the 2nd one this morning I had a BSOD. It said something of "PSL Pool" and after that it rebooted. I could run 3DMark2003 for hours together with Orthos without problems. My Wireless USB mouse had run out of batteries so I plugged my corded mouse into my USB hub. I had my logitech usb headset, wireless receiver for my keyboard and mouse and then I added corded Logitech mouse on the same hub.

I wonder if any of you guys had problems with USB stability issues?

I've been idling around 49C and get up to about 60C under full load. Is this reasonable for an OC cpu with an after market heatsink?

You know thats funny you mention that because when I push past 3.3ghz I run two instances of orthos for like a half hour and all is well. I can navigate through the start button and open programs during this using my keyboard, then the second I move my mouse (logitech mx510 on usb) my computer resets... I've done this several times... opening programs with keyboard etc and trying to crash the system and all is well till i touch the damn mouse. Maybe I should use an adapter on ps2 port???

What handles the usb ports? the sb? perhaps the sb is hot and needs to be cooled? maybe that would help... prob not... let me know if you try an adapter on the ps2 port for your mouse and it cures your problems. I will do the same.

I would say that is unreasonable. My max load temps are your idle temps. Maybe your vcore is set too high or more likely you should try reinstalling your heatsink. I assume when you say 60C you are talking about temp1. For core0 or core1 that is normal. But if your temp1 is that hight then yeah you need to do something cause that mean your cores are getting extremely hot ~70C+ and thats considered 'hot'.

Need some suggestions...

Here's my situation. I'm either gonna buy an Antec Nine Hundred case or I'm gonna get another 7600gt to run in SLI mode. I currently have a Thermaltake Xaser III case and to be honest I don't think it can cool nearly as well as the Antec Nine Hundred. I will eventually purchase both of these products but there will probably be about 2 months in between.

Which would you guys get first? The second vid card or should I go for the case? Both are about the same price.

To be honest, I would say go for the case.

In 2 months sell your 7600gt and with teh money you get from that and the money you would have spent on another 7600, get a 8600 - they should be out then.

I am talking about Core 0/1. The Temp1 goes from 40-47 usually.

I am using the blue ice pro for my nb cooler. The review on madshrimp shows it performing as well as a heatpipe cooler. And it fits with my big ultra-120.
