hey jkcheng, I just realized that we pretty much have the same computer. lol

CPU: E6400 vs E6600
Mobo: Asus P5N-E SLI (BIOS 0401) same motherboard
Memory: Titanium PC6400 vs Platinum Rev2 PC6400
Video: eVGA 8800GTS 640MB same videocard
Audio: X-Fi XtremeMusic same soundcard
Power Supply: OCZ PowerStream 520W SLI vs Thermaltake ToughPower 600W
Case: Kingwin KT424 vs Antec P180
etc...

Oh and supposedly the 520W OCZ PowerStream is a 620W peak wattage powersupply. Written on the powersupply itself. Can sustain 520w.

SOOOOO, I hope I'm okay and don't have to get a new power supply because I can't afford it right now. I have 4 harddrives and 2 optical drives with a cold cathod raytube in my system.

So far so good.

1. Add C1E function support for Conroe-L A-1 stepping CPU .
2. Support new CPU, please refer to our website at: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpus...aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5N-E%20SLI
3. Support FSB 1333 CPU .
4. Fix CPR might fail when overclock too much.

sbinh
Yes, 0401 has support don't know about 0307 never tried it

Maz Yes, It looks to small stay with the stock heatsink.

Shampoo Get some sleep that computers not going anywhere. I wouldn't mess with the network adapter. If it ain't broken no need to fix it.

i'm not currently running the 640mb 8800gts as the damn thing was crashing my computer to where i had to reinstall windows. i should have my advanced rma model in a few days. =(

as far as psu, yeah they're expensive. i got lucky my company sponsored CPL and we got a bunch of left over parts to sell at cheap, snatched the psu for $75 that i know 100% won't be doa since was used in the tournament machines pushing 2x x1950pro's and fx57.

can't say enough about the sound card. i've tried several onboard audio solutions and u can very noticeably hear the differences.

dont think i'm gonna use that new bios until it gets put on the asus http site and ppl have good things to say about it. tho i dont know if this new bios would allow me to get 400fsb with multiplier at 9.

anyone else here with the E6600 able to hit 3.6ghz (800ram/400fsb) on this board? i've only been able to hit 400fsb with multiplier bumped down to 8x, tho i have not tried past 400fsb at 8x.

this is before my video card crapped out on me, i'm currently at 1333/800, will try to get it higher when the replacement card arrives sometime next week. currently on a crappy 6800GT that blacks in and out while in windows, but it doesnt do in WoW so i can still use the machine for raids.

Ok, first thing I have noticed is that my multiplier is now locked at 9... meaning I can not change it up or down - so warning to those who want to push a higher FSB with lower multiplier as it will just set your multiplier back to its default.

Did you clear the CMOS? Does the bios save any changes you make? I don't think they would eliminate that option. Keep testing and let me know

I've got a 6600, I can hit 3.5ghz stable, but 3.6ghz requires a TON of vcore. Like 1.5+ set in the bios. I wasn't wanting to run that much thru the chip so I've been playing with the 8x multi. I've got it at 3.35 but I'm kinda floating on the edge of my ram's speed with its current voltage, timings, and cooling. The nice thing about running it at 3.35 is that the cpu only needs 1.4 in the bios instead of 1.49 to make 3.5. Noticably cooler temps.

I've just started trying out 505, so far I haven't seen any significant difference. I haven't played with the multiplier yet.

Yes, I did clear the cmos - removed battery and shorted the jumper.

It does save my settings. It is just the multiplier which it will not move from 9.

Oh yeah, the previous post just reminded me, when trying to use EZ Flash, it told me it could not downgrade the bios - that was going from 0401 to 0505....

Anyway, to answer your question, dark, yes you can, but you will probably have to use the awdflash utility.

New bios huh? Hrmm. I will think about it.

LOL Core2, I know, I know. It was just my first night with the machine so I was excited and decided to pull an all nighter and play with it.

I picked up a Zalman southbridge cooler (the blue one) and the mounting brackets for my XP-90C.

Installed everything and well, cpu temps are the same as with the stock heatsink. I'm going to lap the heatsink and reinstall it over the weekend.

Anyhoo', I noticed I DON'T have the greatest setup as I had initially suspected.

I need 1.5ish volts to run it at your settings Core2 (John).

So I'm trying my fsb at 424MHz with 1.4volts. Both cores running 65ish full load.

I believe those temps are acceptable.

Things are stable thus far. Northbridge is one notch above default.

I'm still amazed at the ease of overclocking. Man I sound like a broken record.

Love this sucker.

Oh and hey jkcheng, your problems I ran into as well. Thing is it was a simple fix for me, just like my 7900GT. I just gave it a few blows with compressed air and brushed off the pcb with a little brush I use for my notebook's keyboard.

After that it ran like a dream. Sounds ridiculous I know, but sometimes stuff gets left behind on the pcb's from factory. It's like quality control isn't up to snuff like the good old days of the geforce 4200ti or was it ti4200.

So if it happens again with the rma return, give that a go. I used compressed air in every single place I could think of on the videocard. In the PCI-Ex power connector, in between crevaces where the heatsink meets the videocard, etc.

Hope your next one is a goody.

Cheers,
Mike

I checked the multiplier setting in the new bios and it is indeed non-functional. I also seem to be having some stability problems at the same settings as I had with the 401 bios. Too bad. Boot up times are faster by a bit (oh yipee). Well, maybe 60x (or whatever) will be the cats meow.

CONFIRMED: 0505 bios doesn't remember the setting for "CPU Multiplier" and resets to default on reboot.

I was able to upgrade from 0502(beta)->0505 via EZ Flash 2.

I was also able to downgrade from 0505->0502(beta) via EZ Flash 2.

I'd assume that the unsaved CPU multipler is a bug and will be fixed in the next bios.

Good "old" days? The build I just did with this motherboard included replacing my Ti4400 with a 7900GS. That card wasn't that old at all!

Good old days was back when you couldn't change the video card because it was integrated into the motherboard (ala Commodore). Good old days was 19xx.

Anyway, cleaning with compressed air can certainly help, but I've read of reports where people cleaned their video cards with denatured alcohol which resulted in lower temps, higher overclocks, and zero visual artifacts.

LOL, agreed. I remember my cousin's old commodore, awesome games.

Anyhoo, yes, cleaning your pcbs before installation can help, of course not in all cases, but it doesn't hurt.

I just know it fixed my problems.

Just ran a couple of games and I'm oh so impressed. NFS Most Wanted is now SILKY smooth with no hiccups at all with everything turned up to max.

Oh my goodness. Now time to try some other games.

I'm steady at 424MHz fsb, so I'm at 3400ish MHz clock speed.

SO FAST~!

hello all im very sorry to post but ive checked most of this post looking for advice but still i am having real problems.
Ok i stupidly upgraded my bios from 0201 to 0401 using the windows asus update facility, i rebooted as it told me and nothing posted no beeps so i just cleared the RTC jumper pin and it posted loaded into windows, but it consistently crashed when using windows, so i decide to reformat thinking i may have a better chance with a fresh install.
Now it keeps getting stuck on windows cannot setup "etc " files section when writing to H/D i presume.Since then i have read a bit more of the post and have taken the battery out and cleared the RTC jumper again, all i get is the same problem at the windows cannot copy file "###" section all goes fine till then. Your advice would really help me out as i have reached my limitations to what to dow now but cry>

Hello all
Posting here since i didn't find any mention to the subject.

Got my comp parts a few days back, installed everything and having a few probs..hope

you can help. When i start up my system after the asus logo i get a warning in the post

stage. The warning says: WARNING: h/w monitor status abnormal.

I enter the bios/power/monitor part of the bios, there i get these values:

VCORE VOLTAGE- 4.08V
3.3 VOLTAGE- 4.08V
5V VOLTAGE-6.85V
12V VOLTAGE-16.32V

All marked in red. CPU TEMP and M/B temp show (-)128 celsius (an erorr off course).

I read a post by core2 (john ?) saying H/W monitoring in asus boards is rubbish but still,

the voltage seems a bit over the top and i'm afraid i'll cause damage to the board.

The computer isn't OC and besides the warning everything else is normal, Win is running

great and the temps are normal (checked with speedfan).

Anyone got an idea why am i getting the warning ? any idea what should i do ?

What processor do you have. I'm getting mixed results. All of the people with E4300 are reporting locked multipliers. I asked over at the extreme form too and one person replied with a E6300 and said he had no problems.

EDIT: Did you Clear The CMOS after flashing?

Make sure the Command Per Clock did not reset itself to 1T in the bios. Check to make sure the SLI memory option is not enabled. What slots do you have your ram in? Download and run this program CPU-z and select the about tab and select HTML Dump and paste it into a post here.

Check all your connections. Test your PSU for the right voltage values. All the values that you have posted show a negative value when they are suppose to be positive. Do you have Q-Fan enabled. Are you running any other Voltage and Temperature programs at the same time? What are the Vcore, 3v, 5v, 12v values in windows as reported by speedfan?

Speedfan reports the same voltage as the m/b:

vcore1 : 4.08v
vcore2 : 4.08v
+3.3v : 4.08v
+5v : 6.85v
+12v : 16.32v
(-)12v : 4.01v
(-)5v : 4.05v
vbat : 3.18v

I've checked and rechecked my mobo connections, every thing looks fine.
Q-fan is disabled.
Asus pc probe reports the same parameters.
How do i test my psu ?

Could the m/b sensors be defective ? again, no other problems, core temps looks
good , Windows runs good, still haven't tried prime 95 and such..
any suggestions ?

thank you.

I've worked it out ... cleared cmos and now everything is ok.

Thanks for the tips..
