Finished my new build with the E8400. She runs like a champ.
Would you like to share your settings (voltages, timings, frequencies), with the rest of the class...?
When I booted the first time it said something like "UNKNOWN CPU....PLEASE UPDATE TO THE NEWEST BIOS TO UNLEASH THE FULL POWER OF THE CPU". I updated the Bios to 803 and the message went away. I wanted to run stock so I changed very few settings. Here's what I did:
<some snipping done>
I am trying to set up a system on similar lines. Key specs:
CPU: Intel C2D E8200 2.66GHz
Mobo: ASUS P5N-E SLI BIOS (dont have version on hand but certainly not the latest)
RAM: Transcend 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800
Video: XFX 8600GT 512MB
HDD #1: Seagate 500GB SATA2
Plus the rest.
When I switch on the system, nothing comes up on the screen, no beeps either. Now, the E8200 is not in the supported CPU list for this board. MB has power (fans work) atleast. Looks like there is a total failure upfront - I am not even getting the initial message that sblake got!! The local ASUS help simply said the board does not support the CPU - and I was about to look at alternative MB when I saw that sblake had succeeded with E8400.
What could be the problem? ASUS certainly is not supporting this CPU/MB combo. Should I be getting some bootup message atleast? Havent really connected anything else except stuff listed above.
Thanks
