Is this Sheever?

You should see Reddit talk about her.

God, Sheever was terrible at casting. When Navi or IG came up and I saw Sheever as the option, it was a 'Noooooooooooooooooo.....'

Watching the Group Stages, you kept praying that the game you wanted tow watch wasn't cast by her.

Yeah Sheever is pretty bad, but I'd rather listen to Sheever than no caster at all I guess, and I've heard worse casters (e.g. porcelin Lily or whatever her name is).

TI3 has been thoroughly entertaining so far. Holy crap Valve, you really learned your lesson from TI2 and made all the shortcomings gone.

The All-Star game was indeed hilarious- a refreshing break from all the serious games. It was awesome to see all the pros acting silly, having a blast, picking garbage heroes, and RAGE pausing before dying. LOL.

I was hoping to see some super troll builds in the All-Star game. Dagon on entire team or something. >_>

Well, Puppey's team (Team A) took it much more seriously than Team B, at least when it came to the draft. It was still very fun to watch.

I'm going to be on the road for a few hours. Is there an AUDIO only stream of casters anywhere?

So, the panel of guys that talk about the game (and the casters) are they professional players in any capacity? I just feel like (and I haven't watched a ton of games) they don't add any real insight into what is going on. Perhaps I am just used to having professional players to commentary (in the FCG and HoN, the casters are extremely knowledgeable of the games). At one point, one of the casters said something like "Puck still doesn't have his blink dagger." Which isn't bad in itself, but it was 8 and a half minutes into the game. Of course, he doesn't have a blink dagger, because if he did, it would likely be the fasted blink in Dota history!

I guess they just don't explain things that I feel they should be explaining. They talk about how Wisp is OP, but don't really give any insight into what makes him that OP besides "at 6 it is gg." In the FCG, commentators know the frame data for moves and unblockable setups, as well as ways to get out. They can suggest possible scenarios in which a person could have countered a set up or if something wasn't an optimal combo; and all while being hype and entertaining. HoN tournaments have a professional player (who gives the intricate knowledge) and a shout caster for hype. They also have the same guys doing the post game analysis. TI3 just seems like they need better casters. This could be because this is only their 3rd tournament (and it has improved a lot over the 2nd apparently). I think games like Dota and such require commentary that players completely unfamiliar with the game can understand why someone is building a certain way or what heroes / items do to enhance the synergy.

EDIT: Well, that all came off rather negative. I am really enjoying TI3 so far as just a twitch viewer (even with the cancer that is twitch chat).

So, the panel of guys that talk about the game (and the casters) are they professional players in any capacity?.

The panel of 4 guys at the newsdesk are pre/post game analysts. They suck for a reason. From left:

-Bruno: The Dota 2 stats guy. Neither a good player or a caster.

-Maelk: Ex-pro player long ago. Bad caster and generally awkward.

-Merlini: Ex-pro player but he's very good at commentating. The best out of 4. He's like SC's Day9 equivalent.

-James Harding: The head talker. I hate this useless kid and his lame ass chest hair. Neither a good player or a caster.

Except for Merlini, I can't stand any of them. They're all awkward or lame as hell.

Now the following are actual game casters of TI3:

-Tobi & Wagamama: Tobi is known for his great energy and Korean-ish screaming play-by-play. Probably the best known mainstream caster since Dota 2 started. He lacks in actual insight & forecasting. He's best when paired with a color co-caster. Wagamama is low-tier team pro (QPAD Pandas), provides good analysis. Tobi is best when paired with SyndereN of Mouz (eliminated yesterday). SyndereN's analysis is amazing- up there with Merlini.

-Ayesee & Draskyl: There is one guy with a super sexy FM radio DJ-like voice. That's Ayesee. He has a healthy balance of both excitement and analysis. Very professional too, I like him. Draskyl is rather generic.

-LD & Lumi: My favorite and best of the entire Dota 2 industry. Quoting myself below:

Lumi is legit with long ass experience as the content manager of dotacommentaries.com since Dota 1 days.

LD crushed other casters with his insight on the Asian scene last fall while Tobi and others knew nothing about them.

You know casters are good when they make predictive analysis that are spot-on rather than just reading what's happening play-by-play (Tobi).

Lumi, LD, Tobi, & Ayesee are full-on full-time pro commentators/casters. Tobi works for Joindota studio. Lumi, LD are from BTS studio (along with GoDz, Merlini). Ayesee & Draskly works for RaidCall.

That being said, I do agree that everyone mentioned here could be more newbie friendly. They don't elaborate further on why Wisp is good because they assume everyone knows that hero.

Merlini and Maelk are ex-pros.

I agree that casters in general should be explaining a bit more about the game mechanics, and this goes for casts of most competitive dota, not just TI3, but you have to remember that the main audience for these casts are people who are already dota fans and who already know about the game. There's been a lot of stuff about getting SC, LoL, and HoN players into Dota, but TBH I think given the pace of the games that a lot of the time explaining things in such depth would just bore people and mean the casters would miss out on plays because of it. Like, when I first started playing Dota, I never watched professional casts because I just didn't have the knowledge to understand what's going on and why the players did what they did. I think it's admirable for people to expend all this effort into getting new viewers in just for the International, but I don't really feel that they have much chance of getting to grips with all the mechanics and stuff in a few days.

I agree with everything else you said.

The above is why I mentioned I liked Purge yesterday. He explains why things are popular or why things are being done a certain way. He doesn't do it all the time but he does it often and is well spoken and breaks it down simply and quick. I personally just like him as he is a pretty cool guy from what I've seen over time.

This was a necessary edit, because your last few posts have been "HoN did this. HoN did that. FCG does this."

It is not just about players that are new to Dota, but the vast majority of Dota players in general could use an explanation of why builds are done. Most of the pubs copy these builds, but don't understand what makes them good or effective. Going Midas on LD is good, but if you get a 18 minutes Midas, you are better off having just skipped it for example.

The game isn't so fast paced they can't talk about why things are happening a certain way. There is a lot of down time between fights to comment on certain item pick ups. A few times, the casters didn't know which hero had a force staff or when they even picked it up. That item can have an impact and depending on when you get it, can show just how much farm your supports are getting. I haven't heard the other casters (except for a Russian one for a few seconds). I only watch the stream, so I can only have opinions on those.

I thought LGd.int was eliminated by FNATIC?
Or did you watch a replay? - concerning KaOTiK's post.

How have they only gotten 5 games in 7 hours?

Games lengths: 62, 26, 32, 35, 98

That's about 4:15 of game time, the rest is drafting and between game analysis.
