The initial jump is the hardest.

I was a WC3 Dota 1 veteran. I HATED Dota 2 because I had to get used to everything again. The shop was terribly confusing at first and that alone made me derp around like an idiot for 2-4 mins at a time in a game (which is probably lost lane already).

Just keep at it. Keep playing. Let the interface/feel/everything sink in.

It took me more than 2 weeks. I had early access to Dota 2 beta back in the days and I remember just going back to Dota 1 because I was AWFUL at Dota 2.

it was completely opposite for me, after playing dota for 5 years i always felt that it was outdated. Everything i wished for in Dota 1 was in Dota 2, it was like Icefrog made it for me only. 1st thing i did was i watched a youtube video about dota 2 UI, maybe thats y it was so easy for me. I also watched some matches on TI 1 maybe thats why i knew about herooes models and animations. i got it 25 dec giveaway.

Really? Interesting. It's not about just watching the vid or knowing the UI, but actually FEELING it inside the game.

I still remember my hard time of adjusting because:

- Creep HP bar is MUCH smaller/shorter in Dota 2 = harder to last hit. WC3 bar was long and awesome.

- All hero attack animations felt retarded = harder to last hit (although technically same)

- Shop, while knowing it's a vast improvement, it was a clusterfvck to navigate in. In WC3, I knew which shopkeeper to click to (it had 5 I think) and insta-click the item position slot without even looking.

- Hero spell visuals = wtf is going on?

Maybe I just sucked at adjusting.

I still use legacy keys over QWER and if there's one game I'm not humble about is Dota 2. I rock pretty hard using legacy + 6 active ability items.

I believe iG and few of Navi still use legacy keys.

I think I'm going to die before LC is released.

Still, at least we're getting substantial updates.

Wow... some huge changes! The unusual courier changes will completely disrupt the courier market.

The shot is still confusing for me. I used nothing but hotkeys in HoN, so not only do I have to try and find the item, I have to actually click it. =( Also, not having to swap to the courier to buy items is new, so I still do it. In HoN, the courier couldn't access your stash, so you had to buy items with him; Dota 2 didn't have a "next shopper" hotkey I could find, so I had to use two keys AFTER clicking around in the shop. =(

when i started playing dota 2 i used 2 play on EU servers and had almost 280 ping i used 2 play np or lich mostly or supports so last hits were never issue for almost 1st 600 games

it took me around 15 games to figure out most of the spells.

i also use legacy keys on never used warkeys on dota 1 also.. i used 1-6 for items.

best party about shops where i just typed item name inside search bar. it would show up after 1st 2-3 characters

Dota 2's Last Hitting Tutorial will be available to all users from the Training Tab. You will be able to practice with any hero with markers from the game to show you whether you were Early, Close or completely Missed.

In addition to this, in the Limited Mode, when a player leaves one of the BOTS will take over the leaver. This is done to improve player experience for new players.

Dota 2 now has a new coaching system that will allow users to train other new players. You can find the new option in the play tab.

As a coach, you can match make with a team of 5 and sign up as a coach. You will be viewing the game from the perspective of the player with some spectator features available to let you guide them.

You can talk, ping and draw on the map to guide your students. You can set your students from the new panel shown. As a coach you'll even have special chat channels to talk to your students.

I haven't played in a few months. I think I'll have to get back in it if only for the Diretide stuff.

Gah, I want to play Diretide, but I have a bunch of work that needs to be done around the house tonight.

No worries. The Dota 2 network has been down all day since the patch rolled out.

It looks like they're having a big issue with removing/delisting all the prior items in the market before the huge economy revamp rolls out.

No one is playing Diretide now.

Look at this, LOL:

I played a game with all 3 spirits.

I have no idea how they work.

At all.

I think 2 heroes per patch is 1 too many.

Not to be a contrary jerk, but I disagree. I kinda prefer the release schedule where several heroes are released at once. It's like a special holiday where all the usual rules of the game are different, because players are trying to learn and deal with the new heroes. When it's just one new hero at a time, it's like one player gets a special bonus but the overall game is the same.

Ember Spirit:

Just went 4-4 and 13-2 with him. He's okay. You can tell Icefrog intended him to be a midgame ganker and never a serious carry.

He has atrocious base & stat growth (+1.8, +1.8, and +2) and squishy as hell. He NEEDS Phase Boots to chase, which makes him even squishier. Drums is a near-must to pad his stats all around. He is desperately mana starved. If you get BFury on him, he'll be low as 1000 hp at 20 mins.

He has no real sustained damage. His shtick is his ult damage and HIGHLY spammable W skill (mini Omnislash). W has amazing reach and always brings you back where you started - you can do some serious tower diving with this skill. His Bola and Flame Shield are pretty straight forward- lockdown + AOE dmg + bit of magic shield. Even Slark is more fun with Pounce and dispelling mechanic and doing ultimate and stealing stats.

Because of his relatively moderate CD of his ult and non-scaling damage for most of his skills, he fizzles out fast against real carries or even semi-carries at 40+ mins.

Oh, his ultimate's 'destination' range is global. You can TP home and use the skill to instantly come back.

Overall a boring hero I must say. The mechanics are straight forward, and the ultimate wasn't that high ceiling of skill as I had anticipated. He's not particularly fun either like Tiny with Toss shenanigans or Timber with Reactive Armor + forever escape + pure dmg hell.

He's already in Captain's Mode in Dota 1, but no one really picked him in competitive. I don't see him getting used consistently in pro games. He doesn't really offer much- there are better
gankers/initiators and carries (which he isn't even one).

Earth Spirit:

WTF am I playing? For someone who masterfully plays Chen, Meepo, and Invoker, I have to admit I have no idea wtf I'm doing with this hero. I SAW the vids, READ his skills, and even watched his COMBO and 'set up'. But my brain doesn't register. I guess I know what I'm SUPPOSED TO DO, but my brain just derps and my poor ES just fumbles all his skills. I gotta keep playing him. It's funny, when I first saw Timbersaw- he immediately made sense: what he's supposed to do, how his skills work, how Stout + Reactive armor makes him OP offlaner, etc.

I'm currently stupid when it comes to Earth Spirit. WTF is going on? Why is his silence so long, wtf (5 sec AOE), and how did I die from his ultimate somehow? Right now I'm just a big derp when it comes to playing him or against him. Stay tuned.
